A/N: ONESHOT - This story has been knocking around in my brain since I heard Lewis Capaldi Jessie Reyez's song Rush the words suit Spuffy perfectly. Rush

Spike turned off the ignition to the car he had commandeered from Angel and took a deep breath. He got out of the car and looked up at the diner that she had told him to meet her at. When they spoke she was pissed, there may or may not have been a string of insults and expletives before she finally calmed down.

The conversation ended with them planning to see each other. That had been over a week ago, he stood frozen with fear for a moment. He hadn't seen her in two years, of course it was all his doing he felt bad but he did what he thought was best.

'The space between where our ends meet

Has grown too much for me to block it out

I miss the tone of your heartbeat

It's such a warming and familiar sound

I hope you're finding the power

To help you make it through the darker days

For now I'll wait by the hour

If you wanna take somebody's breath away'

He started toward the diner and he noticed her in the window. His unbeating heart leapt inside his chest. She still looked as beautiful as ever. Her blonde hair now a little shorter than the last time he saw her 'fuck' he thought to himself 'pull yourself together'

'I hope you're lonely, hope you're lost 'cause I've been

And I'd hate to think you're better off without me

I know we tried to hold on

But where do you go

When love it just ain't enough?

Now does it kill you when you think about me?

Are you as close to giving up as I've been?

I know we kept losing touch, got lost in the rush

I pray you don't hurt too much'

Buffy sat nursing a cup of coffee that the waitress had set down in front of her a few moments ago. She felt her heart beating faster, she was angry but more than anything she was nervous. She thought about the last time she saw him - their hands engulfed in flames the pain seared through her but she had ignored it for those last moments with him.

'I don't come close to an angel

And you ain't never been no kind of saint

But when we both came together

Hell to heaven, you were my escape

But fires don't burn forever

And all these ashes crumble when we touch

We danced to death in the fire

What can we do now the music's done, my love?'

She sensed he was nearby which knotted her stomach. What was she going to say? Was it an appropriate time to punch him in the nose? She spotted him coming through the door. She took a deep breath and studied him as he walked over towards her. He looked exactly the same as he did the last time she saw him. His piercing blue eyes looked even more vibrant under the artificial lighting of the diner.

'I hope you're lonely, hope you're lost 'cause I've been

And I'd hate to think you're better off without me

I know we tried to hold on

But where do you go

When love it just ain't enough?

Now does it kill you when you think about me?

Are you as close to giving up as I've been?

I know we kept losing touch got lost in the rush

I pray you don't hurt too much'

She stood up as he neared the table that she sat at.

"Hey" she managed to speak

"Hello Buffy" he smiled

She grabbed him and pulled him close and hugged him tightly. He was taken back, he thought for sure she was going to beat his ass or at the very least punch him in the nose. He stood for a moment shocked before easing into the hug and wrapping his arms around her

'Well we had it all, and we let it fall

But I hope you find whatever you were looking for

Well we had it all, and we let it fall

Lost in the rush but I pray you don't hurt too

I hope you're lonely, hope you're lost 'cause I've been

And I'd hate to think you're better off without me

I know we tried to hold on

But where do you go

When love it just ain't enough?'

Buffy released him from her grip. He felt her warmth disappear from him something he missed the most about her.

She sat back down and he sat across from her. They sat in silence just taking each other's presence in. They chatted about mundane stuff to begin with and even laughed together about silly things.

They had just finished laughing about Spike's story of Angel the puppet when Buffy asked him the question

"Why didn't you tell me?" She asked

"Spose' I thought I was doing the right thing luv" he shrugged

"Stupid vampire" she scolded

"M' very stupid luv, I shoulda know better" he flashed her a smile

"I missed you" she whispered

He smiled brighter "I missed you too"

'Now does it kill you when you think about me?

Are you as close to giving up as I've been?

I know we kept losing touch got lost in the rush

I pray you don't hurt too much

Well we had it all, and we let it fall

But I hope you find whatever you were looking for

Well we had it all, and we let it fall

Lost in the rush but I pray you don't hurt too much'
