3rd POV
Since the end of the war against Voldemort, the wizarding community had celebrated New Year's for the following week. They never knew when the next war would begin, and all agreed that it would be a good time for people to spend time with their friends and family. This year was different, however. News quickly spread about the events that had occurred at St. Mungo's and ever since the New Years the wizarding community had been silent and tense. The outside world even seemed silent as if knowing that something had transpired outside of their knowledge.
Remus Lupin was known for many things. A close ally of the Potters. Being a prefect at Hogwarts trying to keep his fellow classmates out of trouble. One of the people who led the hunt against Peter Pettigrew until the Ministry had stepped in and ordered the hunt over. The boyfriend of one of the most influential people in Magical Britain, Amelia Bones. Most importantly though, he was known for being pro-half breed and non-human rights. Being supported by House Potter and House Bones he was quickly able to form an alliance between all the different species, albeit a shaky one, and push the movement farther than anyone thought possible.
His death came as shock to many and rumors were going around that once news came out that he was killed by wizards, there was almost an uprising. It was quelled by Amelia Lupin who had taken her fiancés name in honor of him and everything he stood for. She went to the werewolves, who were crying for blood, and announced that not only had she been engaged to the man, but she was carrying his twins. After much arguing they finally agreed to stand down in honor of everything Remus had worked for but vowing that if they ever met who was behind the attack to viciously kill them.
The previous night had seen a lot of snow and had continued onto the following day. On this snowy morning on a day that Yorkshire empty, the streets were occupied with hundreds of people, rivaling the amount of people that were even at Fleamont Potter's funeral. Half-giants, giants, Veelas, goblins, centaurs, vampires, and werewolves had shown up to one to the funeral to pay their respect to the man who worked tirelessly for their rights.
As everyone began to sit down, people began to go up and pay their respects to Remus and give their condolences to Amelia. Afterwards, they all went onto the stage and to say something about Remus. Majority thanked him for his part in the war or for increasing the rights of other species, but then Lysandra went onto stage.
"Not many people know this, but Remus and I were actually good friends back at Hogwarts. Our friendship wasn't known because he was scared that James and Sirius might try and bother me… which ended up happening anyways. When Cyrus and I got engaged he was actually the first person I told. I wasn't scared of Cyrus and my relationship, but I knew that lots of people would be against it. I knew that Remus wouldn't be, and true enough once I confided in him… he ended up being our strongest advocate and fought anyone who thought we shouldn't be together. He always stood up for what he believed in and I can never thank him enough for believing in my choices." Lysandra said. She looked like she wanted to say more, but she began sobbing so hard that she fell to her knees sobbing. Cyrus, holding Daphne who was tearing up as she saw her mother cry, rushed to the stage and helped her up. He quickly led her away before they apparated away not wanting to make the already depressing mood worse.
Lily went on next. "For those of you who don't know me. My name is Lily Potter and Remus was one of my best friends. There wasn't a kinder person to ever exist on this earth. I want to apologize to him and Amelia for not being able to defend myself on that fateful night. If I had my strength, I could have helped him fight and he may still be here today. I'll hold that guilt for the rest of my life. I do want to thank him as well. I want to thank him for being the perfect prefect and keeping my husband in check as much as he could. I want to thank him for being an amazing godfather to Dahlia, although their time together was cut shorter than I would have liked. Lastly, I want to thank him for being an amazing friend. He laid his life down so that I and my children could escape, and if anything, ever happened to my children I wouldn't have bene able to forgive myself. It was thanks to Remus I can still look at all three of my children and be filled with joy, and because of that… I can never thank him enough."
Lily quickly sat down in her seat next to Dahlia before she started crying. James and Sirius looked at each other. They were the only ones left. Earlier they had discussed if they should both go up or if only one should. They knew that they would end up saying the same thing, but in the end they agreed. They agreed that this was their best friend and it would be ok for them to repeat each other if they needed to. James went first.
"Remus… who knows where to start. I met you on the train as we went to Hogwarts for the first time. You were so happy. Hell, we all were. We thought that magic was the best thing in the world, but once we got there… you were the only one to take it seriously. Sirius and I just messed around while you were off studying and covering for us whenever we messed up. You were my brother and you died saving my family. I can never thank you enough for that… the only thing I can do is promise you that I'll do my best to protect your family like you protected mine. I won't let you down brother."
James went to sit down and passed Sirius who was on his way up. They stopped halfway and hugged each other for a moment allowing grief to consume them. Remus was their brother and now he's gone. They finally let go of each other and James went to take his seat next to Harry who was holding Dahlia's hand and once James sat down he also grabbed James hand as well. He understood that he was unable to see his Uncle Remus again and knew that somehow holding hands at a time like this was comforting. James eyes welled up with his tears and he leaned down and kissed his son on the top of his head. Sirius finally reached the stage and began to speak.
"I'm going to be serious for a second. Yes, you heard right Sirius is going to be serious," a few people chuckled at his lame but well-meant joke. "Remus and I…we meet at Hogwarts Express. I remember exactly what he was doing when James and I walked into the compartment. For some reason he thought that there weren't any snacks on the train ride over and he brought this box full of snacks. Not one of those small boxes. I'm talking about those large boxes that people use when they transport the really large cauldrons. He was trying to get it to fit on one of the seats without it tipping over and he kept failing. But he kept trying and eventually he ended up deforming the box so much that it fit on the seat. He did that a lot… not deforming boxes. He always kept trying despite himself failing. It's what got him the prefect position, not that there were many good choices, but he worked for it and he earned it fair and square. Despite his many advances he, like James I might add, kept going after the first girl to take his heart. After years of rejection, and being made fun of it by me, he finally got the woman he had been pining over for years. They weren't able to get married and that's something I will forever be sorry for because I was really looking forward to embarrassing him. James and I are really close but for Remus… he and I were the closest. I lived with the Potters when my mother kicked me out of the family, but Remus was the first person to make sure I was ok. I was an outcast and he was able to relate with me. He stopped me from succumbing to the darkness and I promise that if Amelia or his children ever need me to… I'll stop them from succumbing to the darkness too. I'll see you again brother and I'll tell you all about it when I see you again."
With that he went and sat down his eyes casted down. Everyone, including James, was shocked by Sirius. They all knew about Sirius being casted out, but they didn't know how dark it was for him. Once Amelia recovered from her shock, she took a deep breath from her spot on the stage and closed her eyes before she composed herself.
Amelia stood up on the stage and began to speak, "I want to thank everyone who came. This is a very hard time for my family, and I thank you for all your support. I know that Remus would have cried to know that so many people cared for him and that he was able to make such a big impact on so many people. I promise you all that our children will live in a loving home and that they'll be raised the same way he and I would talk about when it was just a dream for us," she then turned to Remus's grave, "Sleep well my love. I… I lo... I loved… I love you," as she struggled to get those last words out, she began to cry against the podium covering her face with her hands. Sirius quickly got out of his seat and moved to help her.
Before Sirius could reach Amelia to help her up the stage, she was on blew up, the blast blowing back everyone. Before they knew it, Death Eaters had stormed the cemetery and began firing spells at everyone they saw. Many people in the panic began to apparating away. Those who were unable to attempted to leave through the exits, but the Death Eaters had prepared for that and had put majority of their numbers on those. Due to their strategic planning many of the people who tried running ended up dying and their bodies began to pile up causing people to trip and be trampled on, effectively killing them as well. James got up and looked over at where the stage used to be. He saw Sirius moving getting debris off of him and Amelia being escorted away by a couple of the Aurors before they apparated away. Knowing that his best friends' unborn children were safe. He turned around and looked for the leader of the attack. He growled once he saw who it was grabbing his wand out of his pocket.
"Malfoy! You did this!" James cried out angrily as he saw Lucius Malfoy leading the attackers into the fight.
"Why of course I did! I had to cement myself as Leader of the Death Eaters! What better way than to kill the filthy half-breed friend of James Potter, father of boy who killed Lord Voldemort. Now your line ends!" he sneered back nastily and at the last part he casted a hex at James who narrowly dodged it. They began fighting each other viciously oblivious to the fighting happening around them as people on both sides began to drop. After thirty minutes of fighting James casted a hex that Lucius deflected it towards one of the tombstones causing to explode, the blast knocking both James and Lucius backwards.
"My lord! More Aurors are arriving, I think it is time to go. They are defeated!" one of the Death Eaters cried as they saw Lucius standing up. Lucius quickly looked around the cemetery as he watched some of his faithful followers be killed by the sheer amount of numbers that they were fighting. He looked at the Death Eater and nodded as he apparated away.
"Retreat! It is done! Retreat!" the Death Eater cried to the others. Soon before the fights began to stop as many of the Death Eaters apparated away.
As the Death Eaters apparated away, retreating on what may have seemed like a loss people began to cheer celebrating what they thought was a win. James knew to assess the casualties before he celebrated. He began to walk around making sure that everyone was ok before he heard someone croak his name. He turned around and his eyes widened in shock. There before him was his uncle weakly calling out to him as he held his silent wife. James approached them.
"Uncle Charlus… is she…" James began unable to say the words he was thinking.
"Yes… she's gone. Thankfully, I won't have to walk this world without her. I'll be joining her soon," Charlus whispered trying to keep whatever strength that remained as he attempted to converse with his nephew. It took a moment for James to realize what had just been said.
"Uncle Charlus we can get help! You don't need to die too," he said frantically not wanting to take anymore loss than he had already suffered.
"Stop that. I've lived my life and it's time to start my next adventure. You need to win James… for Harry… for all Potters. We have to win, or we'll be hunted to existence. Take care of them and our deaths won't be in vain," he paused for a second and took a deep breath. "Tell my siblings and their children… they have to remain strong. They have to be ready to fight and tell my baby sister… tell her I forgive her. You'll do that won't you?"
His uncle finally closed his eyes letting his last breath out as he succumbed to his wounds before James could reply. Knowing that there was nothing else that could be done, James closed his eyes and bowed his head in silence and sat there for what seemed like an eternity.
"James! Come here it's Lily…" someone cried out from a distance. Those words roused James from his stupor and he quickly left his Uncle and Aunts bodies as he raced towards where the person was calling for him. His heart was beating faster than the speed of light as he worriedly ran over. Once he reached the person, the sight he saw stopped him in his tracks with his breath escaping him. He saw Harry shaking Lily trying to get her to move while Dahlia was sitting next to her crying, and the person who had called him, Amelia, was holding Ivy. He quickly slid next to her and began to shake her violently.
"Lily! Wake up. Wake up! Lily! Wake up!" he yelled with every word his shakes getting more and more violent. Tears began to flow down his cheeks freely as he slowly began to understand the reality of the situation. He finally stopped shaking her when Dahlia jumped on his back hugging his neck. He slid her around him and hugged her like his life depended on it. Someone, he didn't know who,
People had slowly surrounded James who was cradling his wife's dead body in shock, but slowly their shock turned into sadness and they began to cry. In the span of over a week they not only lost one of the most important people in politics, but they lost the brightest witch they had ever known for centuries. Many people finally began to understand what was happening. During their time of peace, they slacked off and because of that they some very important people in the wizard community. The Death Eaters were back, and they had a new leader.
James stood up from Lily's dead body and looked at the circle that had surrounded him in his eyes with fury in his eyes and said, "I, James Potter, formally declare a blood feud on ALL members of House Malfoy."
Everyone looked at him in shock. No one uttered a word as they realized the implications of not only a blood feud being declared, but the feud being declared on the entire family. The only way to get out of a normal blood feud would be that the person and their immediate family would die on either side, but for a blood feud on the entire family meant everyone who carried the name or was somehow related to them and supporting them had to die. Only two ways could end a blood feud: a union between the families or death.
Sirius was the first to speak up. "James, mate… I hate them to and want them to suffer, but do you realize the consequences of what you're saying. You can take it back before it becomes too late," he said desperately.
"They killed my father. They killed Remus. They killed my uncle and aunt. And then they killed Lily. The mother of my children. The love of my life, Sirius. AND THEY KILLED HER!" James said, screaming the last part. He continued, "I'm done suffering. I won't lose anyone else without fighting back. They started it and the Potters will end it."
Everyone stood around him letting their words speak in. Before anyone could say anything, James grabbed Harry, Ivy, and Dahlia before turning to Sirius.
"War council at Potter Manor. Gather everyone," and with that he apparated himself and his three children away. Once he left his words that had been slowly sinking in finally reached them.
The time of peace was over. The storm was here.
AN: Sorry it was kind of slow at first but I have to build the story up and… Oh shit. Shit's about to go down!
