Chapter Nine
Spike stormed out of Slayer Central as fast as his legs could take him, rage filled his entire being. 'How could she do this do me?' He thought angrily still striding along the sidewalk.
Buffy practically ran after Spike calling out to him. Eventually he stopped and catch him up. "Spike" she said trying to catch her breath.
"You know what I'm a complete and utter idiot!" He spat
Buffy looked at him with sorrow in her eyes "That's not true" she tried to comfort him
"No I am!" He said venomously "I'm an idiot to think that our reunion would have some happy ending! I'm an idiot to think that I could ever compare to that wanker!"
"I'm sorry, we were just caught up in the moment..." Said Buffy
"No" he interjected "It's you two, it's just what you do! You fight and you shag and all is right with the world"
"Are you kidding me?!" Buffy raged "You need to brush up on your Angel and Buffy history okay? Nothing good ever comes from me and Angel being together" Buffy realised the words that had just come out of her mouth
"And yet you still try" Spike scoffed
"It was just a kiss" she said softly
"Right..." He shrugged his shoulders
"Look, I don't wanna fight. I wanna talk, find out what's new with you... Find out why you didn't tell me you were back" Buffy said looking hurt
Spike was all too familiar with the look displayed on Buffy's face. He had saw it too often most notably when he had slept with Anya, the pain radiated from her. "Right..." He said finally
"Can we go somewhere?" She asked "I feel like we need some privacy"
He nodded and they began to walk to find somewhere to talk.

Dawn and Willow burst through the door of Slayer Central with Xander in tow
"Where is she!" Dawn demanded as soon as she locked eyes with Angel
"I don't know" said Angel
"I don't believe you!" Said Dawn
"Yeah" Xander piped up "You're evil how are we supposed to believe you?"
"She's out with Spike somewhere" Angel told them
Dawn rolled her eyes "I don't think so... Buffy! Buffy!" She shouted
Faith rushed down the stairs "Hey! Bratsize! Quiet it down will ya!"
"Not until I find my sister!" Dawn snapped
"She's out with Spike" said Faith
"Oh... See Dawnie I told you she'd be okay" smiled Willow
"Well where are they?" Asked Dawn
"Who knows" Faith shrugged "I'll get some more rooms set up for you guys"
Faith disappeared back up the stairs leaving a frosty atmosphere

Buffy and Spike had found a corner in a small casino to talk. They'd spent the last ten minutes staring at their drinks when Buffy just couldn't hold it in any longer "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I wanted to... So many times I picked up the phone and dialled the number that Fred gave me. Then I thought I'd just show up alive or as alive as I'll ever get, I had the boat ticket..." He told her
"But you didn't come... Why?" She asked
"I thought about it so much, what it would be like. I knew I'd get a punch in the nose and a scolding for good measure..." He smiled "But... I don't know, you can't go out in a blaze of glory like that and then show up three months later" he shrugged
"Three months later?" She asked "You've been alive all this time and you couldn't come and find me because your ego wouldn't allow it?" She trembled with a mixture of anger and sadness
"Nothing to do with ego" he corrected her "I dusted a hero, do you have any idea what that meant to me? I repaid a small ounce of debt that I owe to the universe for all the fucked up things I've done... You were my first thought the moment I came back. You're my first thought every time I wake up and every time I go to sleep... There's just somethings that are more important" he told her
Buffy fought back the tears that had sprung to her eyes "I get it, I just wish you had have been more selfish" she smiled
"Me too... We better go. You've got a big decision to make" he smiled
Buffy sighed heavily "Two days ago my biggest decision was whether to finish my homework or to sleep...I really thought all this big decision making was over"
"Homework?" He raised his eyebrow
"I went back to college" she smiled
"That's my girl"
