Androcles knew he had to find food sometime...but where?
His lion had gone away for a short while, then, he re-appeared, holding a stag with his jaws, and dropping a good chunk of the meat in front of Androcles.
"Well, thanks!" Androcles smiled, taking the meat.
Androcles built a small fire in the cave by gathering some sticks and twigs, and in no time at all, he had cooked the meat and was now eating it.
This went on for some time, the lion would catch the meat and bring it back, giving some to Androcles.
He even showed Androcles where to find sources of clean water that was drinkable. They bathed together that day, as well.
Eventually, the lion's mane regained its sheen, and the ribs on his body began to disappear, making him look and feel healthier—making him feel stronger. The lion could now hunt like it was nobody's business, which also meant more food for Androcles.
"Goodnight...friend..." Androcles told the lion before he bunked down to sleep.
The lion appeared to growl a response, as Androcles slept on his warm, tawny body.
