Trigger Warning: Emotional abuse/Toxic relationship.
Characters are aged up. If you want to listen to the song that inspired this imagine you can do so: here.
It had been eight months since your break up with Bakugou and it still tore you up inside. You were convinced that he was the one, but instead he broke your heart into a million pieces. The memories flooding your mind no matter how hard you tried to forget. The pain was always there, and you didn't think you would ever be able to get rid of it.
You were together for a year and a half and it was honestly the best time of your life, at least that's what you told people. You got a piece of him that you knew most people would never get. You knew he had a temper, but when it was just the two of you it was like he was a different person. It took you longer than you cared to admit for the rose colored glasses to come off.
In the beginning Bakugou was a gentleman. He opened doors for you, kissed you in public, and flaunted you in front of his friends. He was so in love with you and he wanted everyone to know you were his. You thought he was just protective over you because of his personality. When you thought back on the relationship you couldn't help but laugh at how naive you were. The red flags just kept piling up, and you couldn't help but smack yourself for not noticing sooner.
The possessiveness grew to unbearable lengths. He would shoot daggers at anybody who would so much as look at you. If someone went in to hug you he would pull you away and walk in another direction. His sweet remarks about your appearance became put downs.
"You aren't really leaving the house looking like that are you?"
"No other guy would ever want someone as hideous as you. Only I can see the beauty behind the beast. Remember that."
"I don't care how your day was. Can you just stop talking! Your voice annoys me."
You couldn't help the tears that streamed down your face every time he put you down. You felt worthless. You found yourself looking at your reflection in the mirror replaying his words in your head, and agreeing with them. Nobody could ever love someone so worthless.
He had you distance yourself from your friends and family telling you that he was the only person you needed. At the time you had been so in love with him that you would've done anything he asked of you.
The glasses finally broke the first time he put his hands on you. Your body started to shake uncontrollably every time the memory popped into your head.
It happened the night before you left him. You were having a bad day and decided to go out to the bar to drink your troubles away. It was out of character for you, but you just needed to relax. What you didn't expect to see was your boyfriend with his tongue down another girls throat. You couldn't help the sound of disgust that fell from your lips. His eyes quickly met yours as you flipped him off and stormed out of the bar. You quickly made your way to the apartment the two of you shared and started to pack all of your things. You gave him a year and a half of your life and you couldn't believe he would do something like this to you.
You thought you were going to be in the clear when you left him in the bar, so when the front door slammed shut and Bakugou came running into the bedroom you were surprised.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing?" He screamed at you as he grabbed your wrists to stop you from filling your suitcase.
"What the fuck does it look like Bakugou? I'm leaving you, and if I'm being honest with you I should've done this sooner!"
You ripped your hands from his grasp and went back to packing your belongings. You could feel his temper rising as you evaded his grasp. You turned your back to him as you grabbed the last of your things, but before you could put them away you were suddenly pushed into the wall, your head being slammed against it. Bakugous hand gripped the side of your face as he smushed your head further into it, the drywall slightly dented.
You were so surprised at the action that you almost forgot about the pain that radiated through your body. You couldn't control the whimpers that escaped your lips as you tried to think of what to do. There was no way you could out power him. His lips came up to you ear as he whispered the words you had become so familiar with.
"Do you honestly think you could ever leave me? Where would you go? Who would want someone as worthless as you?"
You didn't answer him and that only seemed to anger him further. He released your head only to slam it back into the wall. Black dots started to cloud your vision as he continued his assault. He let go of your head and went for your throat. One of his hands wrapped around your neck as he tried to choke the life out of you. You tried to pry his hand off of you, but it was no use. You were too weak.
Just as the darkness was about to overtake you his grip loosened, and you felt his hand leave your throat. You couldn't get air into your lungs fast enough. You dropped to the ground and held your throat as you looked up at the man you loved. He was looking down at you with a look of utter disgust and rage. You met his eyes and realized that the man you fell in love with wasn't looking back at you. Your were looking into the eyes of a stranger, and you didn't know what broke your heart more.
"If you ever try to leave me again I will kill you." He whispered as his gaze moved from your eyes to the new indent in the drywall. "Do you understand?" He asked as his eyes fell back to nodded in response.
His eyes locked onto the hole once more before he cursed to himself softly and disappeared from the room. The apartment door slammed shut signaling that he left the apartment. Your body fell to the floor as you began to sob uncontrollably. Your body was shaking with fear as you curled into a ball and cried your eyes out.
Not knowing when or if he would be back you quickly pulled yourself up and forced yourself to finish packing through the pain. You had to get out of that apartment and you had to do it now. It took you 15 minutes to finish packing and when you walked out you didn't look back.
You could picture him walking into the house and seeing all of your things gone. He texted and called you multiple times that night, but you ignored them all. You knew you deserved better and you knew it wasn't going to happen if you stayed with him. That night was the last time you heard from him, or so you thought.
The first month after you left was the hardest. The nightmare of what happened flooded your mind every time you closed your eyes. Sleep was almost impossible, because you didn't want to relive the horror. Your parents were worried about your health and well being, so they suggested you see a therapist since you refused to tell them what happened. No matter how hard you tried you just couldn't bring yourself to tell anybody what had happened to you. You were barely hanging on by a thread as it was and the thought of speaking the abuse into existence terrified you.
By the second month you slowly started to get back to your old self. You had enough of looking into the mirror and seeing a broken women looking back at you. He was still tormenting you even when you weren't together and you were done with it. You opened up to your parents about what happened and agreed to see a therapist to help you try and get over your issues. You were suprised at how good it felt to finally let go and unbottle everything you held inside. You felt the weight lift after every visit and by the third month you could finally look at yourself and see the person you were before you met Bakugou.
In the middle of the third month after the breakup you had reached out to all of your friends that he cut out of your life and told them what happened. They were very sympathetic about your situation and even tried to get you to "drop his addy" because they "just wanted to talk." You almost gave in and gave it to them, but you knew how Bakugou was, and you just wanted him out of your life for good. They demanded a well needed group hangout and on that night you felt more like yourself than ever before.
By the fourth month it was like you never dated Bakugou. You felt like the same person you once were and it was a relief. The memories would stay with you for the rest of your life, but you no longer hated the person who looked back at you in the mirror. The love and support given to you from your friends and family had you feeling whole. That was until you woke up one morning to a text from an unknown number.
"I know you may think this is over, but I'm here to tell you it'll never be. Just remember I'm always watching. Nobody will ever love someone as hideous and worthless as you."
With that one text it was like the last four months of progress flew out the window. You got out of bed and walked over to the mirror and started to point out all of your flaws. You wondered if anyone could ever love someone with just a damaged past. Maybe Bakugou was right? Maybe you weren't meant to be in a happy and healthy relationship. Maybe all you'd ever be was a broken toy that nobody wanted. You felt your heart break again and you wondered if you would ever be able to permanently put the pieces back together or if you would stay broken for the rest of your life.
You met him and everything changed. He made you remember all the progress you had made and your heart slowly healed without you knowing. All because of one boy. Izuku Midoriya.
Izuku came into your life unexpectedly and he turned out to be everything you didn't know you needed. The memory of how you met was something you cherished close to your heart. Whenever you felt down you would think back to it and you would instantly feel whole again.
After the text from Bakugou you found yourself needing to go out and remind yourself of all the progress you had made. He made you feel worthless for a whole year and you had come so far. Grabbing your purse and your phone from your dresser you quickly bounced down the stairs and told your parents you were going out. You decided to grab a hot chocolate and spend your morning in the zoo. Watching the penguins swim around always seemed to calm you down. As you were standing in line to order the chocolatey drink the man in front of you attempted to hit on you with the cheesiest pick up line you ever heard.
"A-a-are you a 10? Because I see you." He sputtered out, "I mean you're from Tennessee?" His face went beat red as he apologized and turned back around softly mumbling to himself.
You couldn't help the laugh that escaped your lips, the smile on your face so wide it started to hurt. He was so cute. His green hair and green eyes had your cheeks flushed. You couldn't believe someone so handsome would flirt with you. Stepping out of your comfort zone you decided to try and flirt back with him. You lightly tapped him on the shoulder and he whipped around so fast you thought he would get whip lash.
"If anyone here is a ten it would be you." You whispered with a wink and his face got impossibly more red. You couldn't help but let out a small laugh at his reaction. His presence felt so warm and familiar, and even though you just met him you knew if you didn't introduce yourself to him you would kick yourself later for it.
"Uhh hi I'm (y/fn) (y/ln), I'm sorry if that was too forward of me."
"Oh..n..no it was fine! I'm Izuku Midoriya. It's nice to meet you (yn)."
"I can help the next in line." The barista called out a little louder than normal. You looked up and laughed. It was Midoriya's turn to order and it was obvious that it wasn't the first time she had called out to him.
Midoriya turned back around and apologized to the barist, a light pink painting his cheeks. "I'm so sorry about that. I'll have a large iced white mocha with soy milk and I'd like to add vanilla bean powder please." He said with a smile before turning to you. "Also whatever she wants." He turned to you with a smile before motioning for you to come up to the counter.
You decided to be brave, so you went up to the counter and ordered your hot chocolate with a slight blush on your cheeks. When she gave the total you quickly beat Midoriya to the punch and gave her the cash. "Keep the change!" You said as you moved to the other end of the counter to wait for your drink, Midoriya following close behind you.
"You didn't have to pay for that! I was gonna treat you after failing at that lame pick up line." He said as he ran his fingers through his hair a nervous chuckle coming out.
"It's okay Midoriya. You can get the next one." You said with a wink.
The blush on his face darkened and you couldn't help the smile that spread across your face. "(Y/LN), please call me Izuku."
"Well I'd rather call you baby, but Izuku will work for now." You said with a wink and you swear he stopped working. "You can call me (Y/FN)." Your order was announced so you grabbed both drinks from the barista and handed Izuku's to him with a smile.
"Thank you (YN)." He said as he grabbed the drink from you, his fingers lingering on yours for just a minute. Your face lit up at the contact as you mumbled back a quick your welcome, your cheeks flushing lightly. You both walked each other to the door and you found yourself wishing you could spend the rest of the day with him.
As you tried to come up with a way to get his number you heard his beautiful voice mumble so softly you almost didn't hear him. "So when can I see you again?"
"I'm free right now?" You answered with a small smile. You met his gaze and at this point you thought your cheeks would permanently become rosy. He was looking at you with the same smile, his cheeks even rosier than your own. "What did you have in mind?"
The penguins had another admirer that day and it was easily became one of the best days of your life.
After that first day with Izuku you guys were practically inseparable. You spent every day you could with him and it didn't take long for your heart to feel complete. You found yourself opening up to him within the first two weeks of knowing him, telling him everything about yourself. When you told him about everything you went through in your last relationship you were worried that he would agree with what Bakugou said. You were terrified that he would see you as nothing but a used and broken toy. What you didn't expect was him to tear up as you finished your story, his whole body shaking in the process.
"I am so sorry you had to deal with that. You didn't deserve that at all. I know I haven't known you for that long, but I can already see what an amazing person you are, and it breaks my heart knowing you had to go through that." He said as he wiped away a tear from your cheek that you didn't know had fallen. He placed his hand on top of yours before continuing, "If you ever need someone to talk to I'm here okay? I know you said you've been seeing a therapist and I think that's amazing, but if you ever want another opinion or another person to listen I'm here. I'll always be here for you."
It was in that moment that you realized you had started to fall for him. Izuku had become the one constant in your life and you didn't know how you had lived so long without him in it. He checked in on you everyday and made it a point to compliment you every time he saw you. After a month of talking and getting to know each other he finally asked you to be his girlfriend and it was one of the best days of your life.
The months passed on and the memory of Bakugou slowly faded from your mind as they were replaced with the new memories of you and Izuku. Anytime you felt insecure about your body he made it a point to shower you with kisses and point out everything he loved about you. He never raised his voice or lost his temper. He treated you like his equal and he never got tired of telling you how much he loved you. You tried to catch him checking out other girls, but whenever you went out his eyes never left you. He looked at you like you were everything and being on the receiving side of his love was the best feeling in the world.
When he asked you to move in with him you thought you were going to be terrified at the thought of living with another man. The memories of that night with Bakugou slowly crept into your head. They were quickly put to rest when you saw the look of pure joy on Izuku's face when you told him yes. Bakugou never looked at you the way Izuku did. When Bakugou looked at you it was with distaste. It was like he hated you with every bone in his body, but with Izuku it was the complete opposite. When he looked at you it was like all he saw was you. When you looked at him you saw all the love he had for you staring back at you. You couldn't help but look back at him the same way. You were in love with him in a way you never felt before. He was the sun you never knew you needed. The honeymoon phase never ended and the love you had for each other grew everyday. You were made for Izuku and he was made for you. So when he got down on one knee and asked you to spend the rest of your life with him there was no other answer you could've given him except yes.
