There are Worse Things I Could Do

Chapter 3

"Why are we at a roller rink?" Lucas asked as Brooke parked outside of her favorite place in the world.

"Because I wanted to do something fun."

"Hanging out with me isn't fun enough?"

"Believe it or not you're not as entertaining as you think you are. Now come on let's go have some real fun."

"Whatever you say." Lucas replied getting out of the car with her and walking into the rink with her.

"Two please." She said throwing her money on the counter as the guy gave her the tickets for the shoes and the rink.

"So, you never told me you were into roller skating."

"To be fair we haven't really talked to each other these last couple of days."

"I'm not a man of many words and you never gave me your number when we first met. How was I supposed to encounter you?"

"You could have asked Peyton or Nathan."

"What would be the fun in that?"

"Come on, let's go get our skates."

"Sounds like a good plan."

Walking to the counter, Brooke and Lucas grabbed their skates and got on the floor to have some real fun.

"So, what made you interested in skating?" Lucas asked as he tried to stay steady by holding her hand. Apparently, he hadn't done this in a while and needed a few pointers.

"It was just something I loved doing when I was younger. It was kind of like my safe space."

"What did a girl like you need to be safe from?"

"My parents fought all the time. Sometimes it would get physical. And that scared me."

"I'm sorry you had to witness that."

"I learned how to cope with it. It still amazes me that they're still together."

"Why?"

"I guess they're too afraid of being alone."

"That's not a valid excuse to stay in an abusive relationship."

"I agree, but it's not really my choice. Can we talk about something different please?"

"What would you like to talk about?"

"Do you party?"

"That was quite the topic turner."

"What can I say I'm good at keeping things interesting?"

"In that case I love parties."

"How do you feel about going to one tonight?"

"What kind of party?"

"It may or may not be a rave."

"I've actually never been to one, so this may be an interesting experience."

"So, you're actually down to go?"

"Does it look like I'm the girl who says no to new and interesting experiences?"

"No. You don't strike me as the cautionary type."

"In that case, Let's finish up here and then I'll show you what girl you're really dealing with. "she flirted feeling more in her element.

"I look forward to seeing your wild side."

Smiling, Brooke roller skated around him as she pulled away from him smiling to herself because he really had no clue who he was dealing with.

"I think I see a couple of friends I recognize; you want to go over and meet them!" he shouted over the music as Brooke turned to him and smiled.

"Sure."

Grabbing her hand, Lucas walked Brooke over to three of his friends. Two boys and a girl who looked vaguely familiar.

"Hey Luke, what's up?" one of the guys said looking her up and down and liking what he saw.

"Not much man, just saw you guys over here and I thought it would be a good time to introduce you to Brooke here."

"And is Brooke your girlfriend?"

"Nah bro, we're just chilling for now. Trying not top put a label on things too soon."

Brooke's smile tightened as she let go of Lucas's hand, after all they were supposed to be just friends after all.

"I see. Well it's nice to have you here anyway Brooke, I'm Mouth, and this is Haley and Skills."

"Interesting names."

"They're nicknames."

"What are they short for?"

"Antwon and Milton."

"I can see why you prefer the other names." She commented making them laugh.

"Well now that the introductions are over with, should we have fun?"

"I thought you'd never ask." Brooke said smiling as Skills gave her a shot glass and a little white pill.

"What's this?"

"Magic."

Looking at the little white pill, Brooke shrugged as she popped it in her mouth waiting for it to take effect knowing that it would for sure be a wild night.
