Chapter 2: Onwards to adventure

"...Bulbasaur!"

Pud reached forward a grabbed the pokeball containing the grass type pokemon. "C'mon on out buddy" Pud said pressing the release mechanism on the ball, releasing his new bulbasaur in front of him. "hey there, I'm you're new trainer. My name's Pud, it's lovely to meet you" Pud said bending down in front of the blinking Bulbasaur. After a few moments of looking at him in slight confusion, the Bulbasaur jumped at him, knocking him over and landing on top of him "Bulba...sssaauurr" the pokemon said rubbing his face up to pud, who after getting the breath back into himself after being knocked over began to laugh and pet bulbasaur affectionately back. "He sure is a friendly pokemon" Sasha said, through her own laughter. Pud smiled at his new bulbasaur "I'm going to call you Tropic from now on" Pud told him "I hope you like that as your name", Tropic seemed to nod "Bulbasaur" he seemed to say in agreement and acceptance of this. "Alright Pud, time to move aside and let you're friends get their pokemon now" Professor Oak said "I'm sure they want their partners too".

Pud blinked, "oh right, let me get out of the way" he said getting up with Tropic in his hands and moving to the side. "Alright, it's my turn now" Luna said stepping forward "and I have also thought long and hard over this decision, I'll be picking…..Squirtle!" She said, reaching out and picking out the ball containing squirtle in it. Holding it up in both hands with contained excitement, Luna clicked the release mechanism on the ball, allowing her new squirtle out of it's pokeball. As squirtle materialized in front of her, Luna stepped forward, "Hi there little one, you and me are going to be partners from now on, I hope that's ok with you?" she said to her squirtle who was looking up at her with wide eyes. As Luna stepped forward, Squirtle let out a loud, startled "ssqquuiirttlllleee" and rushed under the table and withdrew quickly into its shell. Luna stopped with with a look of shock, and a bit of hurt on her face "What's wrong? Did I do something" she said quietly. Professor Oak stepped forward "No no, Luna, this squirtle has always been a bit scared of things and people in general, just try talking to it" he told her. Luna nodded and stepped towards where squirtle was hiding, she bent down to see Squirtle better "Hey there squirtle, I know you must be a bit scared at the moment, I get scared sometimes too. But I promise if you trust me, I'll work hard with you to show you that we can both be brave and go far towards our goals, I'll always be there for you as your partner, so how about it, want to be partner's with me" she said soothingly, while patting squirtle's shell. After a few seconds squirtle popped it's head out of it's shell and let out a little "squirtle?" and then slowly climbed into her hands. Luna smiled and said "I'm going to call you Chelone, I hope you like that name" stroking her new partners shell softly. Professor Oak smiled "I think you make the perfect partner for that little squirtle, she's actually descended from my very own blastoise that I got in this very lab as my first partner pokemon all those years ago". Luna's eyes widened a little "oh really, well we'll make sure to make both of you proud professor" she said as she stepped back in line next to Pud.

"Well, that just leaves one pokemon and one new trainer left, and that's me" Sasha said stepping forward "it's good we all saved the best for last, hahaha!|". Sasha picked up the last remaining pokeball containing charmander, turned and threw the pokeball up in the air "C'mon out charmander" she exclaimed as the pokeball opened and out came her new partner charmander in front of her. Her new partner sat there and stared up at here. "Hey there, you and me, we're going to be partner's on an adventure together, I hope you're excited!" Sasha said picking up her new friend "char….charmander" it said and released a small flame above their heads, "I'm taking that as a yes" sasha said with a laugh "I'm calling you Surtr". Charmander let out a little growl and nodded in agreement with his new name. Sasha looked back at her friends and said "hey guys, look, we all finally have our own partner pokemon, isn't that so awesome" she said, and both Pud and Luna smiled and nodded enthusiastically.

"Alright you three, I know you're excited but we still have a few things we need to do before you can officially start on your journey" Porfessor oak said "now follow me again". They followed the professor into another smaller side room just off of the auditorium. The professor walked up to a desk and picked up three pokedexs. "now, these are our newest models of pokedex right here, we'll just have to register each of you to one, alright step forward one at a time and hold out you hand on to the bottom and slot it into this machine to fully register it to you"

First Pud stepped forward to register his pokedex,

"Pokedex registered to pud, age 10, starter pokemon: Bulbasaur, town of origin; Pallet town"

The Luna stepped forward to register hers

"Pokedex registered to Luna, age 10, starter pokemon: squirtle, town of origin; Pallet town"

and finally Sasha stepped forward to register hers

"Pokedex registered to Sasha, age 10, starter pokemon: charmander, town of origin; Pallet town"

"Alright, now that all those are set up, here's 5 empty pokeballs to start you off with" Professor oak said, handing them each five pokeballs, which they all clipped to their respective belts. "All right guys, it looks like we're ready to start getting you guys going, lets get going back to the gate, I'm sure you're families and friends are waiting to see you off." he said, ushering them once again along the lab.

Once they reached the entrance of the lab, professor oak opened the door and gave them some final parting words before the stepped outside, "you guys do your best, trust in your pokemon and you'll go far. Make sure to keep in contact with me on your travels to update me on anything interesting that you find". They all smiled and agreed to make sure they contacted him regularly, and then finally took their first step out of the lab, to the cheers of their family and friends waiting for them at the gate.

They went down as quickly as possible to show off their first pokemon to their families. Pud stopped in front of his mother and his little sister Elli. "Hi guys, thanks for coming to see me off" he said with a smile. "well of course we would be here, right Elli" she replied. "Yeah, yeah of course. I want to see what pokemon you and the girls chose. So please please show us" she said

Pud looked over at the girls who nodded in return, "All right, we'll show you what we chose" he said picking up the pokeball that had tropic inside "All right tropic, come on out and say hi" he said releasing him from his pokeball, as Luna said "Come and play Chelone" and Sasha said "Front and centre Surtr" All three pokemon materialized out of the balls in front of their trainers and there was an audible sigh of excitement at seeing the three starters. "Wow Pud, so you decided to go with Bulbasaur huh? Well that is a great choice, Bulbasaur's a very reliable pokemon." his mother said to him. Pud heard similar praises of choice from Luna and Sasha's respective families.

After several more minutes of discussion it was time for the three to start leaving properly on their journey. "Alright mother, it's about time we leave, or we'll never get out of here," Pud said "we'll be heading toward Pewter city first and then we'll decide from there were to go." His mother smiled at him and said "that sounds like a great plan honey, make sure to call as soon as you arrive there ok.."

"Of course I will" he said, and bent down to his sister's eye level "Elli, make sure to take care of mother for me while I'm gone ok, and I'll be sure to send you lots of pictures from my travel's" he said to her. "Yeah I will, I promise, and then soon I'll be going on my own adventure and you'd better watch out Pud, cause I'll be catching up real fast" she replied with a look of determination on her face. Pud smiled at her and stroked her hair before straightening up.

He looked at Luna and Sasha who were finishing up their own goodbyes and looking over to him with their own faces of determination. "Alright you two, ready to start our adventure?" he said. They both nodded and fell in step beside him

"Look out world, here we come!" he said as they finally left Pallet town and started their adventure towards greatness.
