Dread Doctors made a new Dread Doctor. La Bête du Gevaudan with his pack returned to New York to find more members for his alpha pack. All went in the loft of Gabe and the pack wanted to know more about him.
"You can tell more things about you?" wondered Liam and showed confliction signs. "Not everybody knows the history of La Bête."
"Do you want to want the story about La Bête du Gevaudan from my perspective?" wondered La Bête caught their attention.
"I was a chimera and died," said Gabe and looked at his changes. "Now, I am alive, and I am an alpha werewolf because of your bit.,"
"You will share us?" asked Ennis and pressed him more.
"Everything began in June 1764," started La Bête the story. "Gevaudan was in France South and from there, and many people reported beast's attack."
"You can find a wolf," said Kincaid and questioned. "How they observe you? They deal with you?"
"Some shepherds saw me," responded La Bête and relived the moment. "They ran because we're afraid, I shifted into a human and followed them."
"Where did they go? What tell to the people?" wondered Ennis full of amazement.
"They said something bigger than a wolf, covered with a reddish fur," related La Bête and laughed with tears. "Also, they noticed I had a black line on the back."
"When all madness started? Who was your primary victim?" wondered Kali and horrified a bit about people's reactions.
"Jeanne Boulet," answered La Bête and tried to remember the name. "I devoured her on 30 June near Saint-Etienne-de-Lugdares. Since that day, and I started the series of the long and tragic attack.,"
"I know you slaughtered many people," said Liam and asked with suspicions. "You can tell on some of your victims?"
"My next victim was a young shepherd. I killed on 6 August at Saint-Jean-La-Fouillousse," responded La Bête and saw Gabe's reaction.
"Is a tragic comedy," said Gabe thought what people felt. "Saint in French has the same meaning in English and you should be lucky to die by a saint."
"That I wanted to say," shared La Bête and amused his joke. "After two days, I slew another girl and on 30 August I wanted to slay another girl. Citizens saved her in time."
"Peoples survived your attacks?" wondered Kincaid and saw La Bete thinking.
"They went distraught and died. Either they rejected the bite," replied La Bête and kept the story. "At the beginning of September, the attacks were lethal and continual."
"In a book, said you concentrated your attacks in women and children," said Kali and asked full of curiosity. "Why?"
"I wanted to spread terror," responded La Bête and said some regret. "They heard the message and. In Gevaudan came on 15 September the Sieur Duhamel with 57 soldiers who came at the command of Governor."
"So you teach those people a lesson," concluded Ennis looked on youtube at a video.
"During the day, I looked at every guy to see the fear of each. Also, how the Duhamel with soldiers tried to capture me," related La Bête and specified. "I was there and looked at them because they were losers."
"You remained famous in history as one of the vicious werewolves. If I am right, from Promethean to our days," said Liam and showed a quote. "You enjoy playing with fire."
"On 20 September they shot me. I wanted to kill some dogs," related La Bête and showed some marks. "I went to heal and started the attacks again."
"I was a chimera-like Liam," shared Gabe and recalled the moments. "The only way to stop the healing, in your time was the fire and in our time, is the electricity."
"You mean damage over time?" wondered La Bête to be sure. "Yes. It was true and Etienne Lafont offered the order to the people to have fire weapons."
"They called bounty hunters to slay you?" wondered Kincaid and searched old documents.
"200 lives and a normal wolf cost of thirty times less than I did," replied La Bête the story. "I would fake my death to take that money free if I were not the beast. After that, they altered their mind putting on my head 10.000 pounds."
"You were worthless," amused Kali and thought at the small sum. "Everybody needed you to slay you."
"Okay, I joined the army to hunt the beast to look at them how they were planning. The beast was closer than ever imagined," confirmed La Bête showed some photos. "They tried to lure out and to orchestrate an attack that needed 24 hours."
"I don't know how I would react if I knew the Beast was near," said Ennis and mocked the humans. "You make them come where you want?"
"I set them to go to my den in the forest," responded La Bête and showed the map. "They lost some people because of my traps."
"You must be evil to do such things," said Liam and explained. "For sure they deserve it."
"During the winter, they pursued me. Duhamel planted some traps with poisons," related La Bête, and showed the regions. "I went there to bait them and when they wanted to capture me, I ran away."
"Why you ran?" wondered Kali
"I wanted to provide the sensation to them they are capable to seize me," replied La Bête
"You let them shot you?" asked Gabe and looked in his eyes.
"Two hunters wounded me on 8 October," replied La Bête and showed the place. "I allowed them alive to tell the people the beast it was more powerful they believed."
"The truth was another?" wondered Kincaid a kind skeptic.
"I was powerful. It wasn't my fault if they had poor powder," replied La Bête and said. "When they wounded me where dampness. The thickness of my fur defended me from damage. The villagers recognized supernatural's strength."
"You wanted the Duhamel with his troops to give up?" wondered Gabe knew had more to say.
"Yes," confirmed La Bête and said. "The scared villagers and I spread the terror again."
"How did you do that?" wondered Ennis with big eyes.
"I undressed the bodies and some of them I beheaded," replied La Bête and thought for a second.
"On the odd occasion I don't understand the people," said Liam questioned their mind. "Why don't you give up?"
"I don't know," replied La Bête and smiled at Liam. "Sometimes I went hunting during the day. If the people surrounded me, I killed all who stood in my way."
"You appeared each day in the newspaper on the first page," said Ennis and looked at the newspapers. "What people said about this?"
"I recalled how I stayed at the table. I drink beer or wine listening to the people," said La Bête and explained. "It puzzled me to know what theories, they crafted."
"We are werewolves and wolves hunt in packs," said Kali about werewolves. "Wolf, like the werewolves, hunt in the pack. That meant werewolves were more than one."
"They think I was a foreign animal like the hyena or a panther," added La Bête and laugh. "Some people went mad and believed somebody trained a huge dog. He did to slaughter people or only a few people have convinced the murderer was a werewolf."
"Who could identify you? Who believed in werewolves?" wondered Ennis.
"A group of elderly woman's stayed at the gate. Talk about the werewolves or other demons," said La Bête and guessed. "It scared me. A few elderly women could discover my secret. My luck was they suspected everybody who lived in Gevaudan was the werewolf."
"The person from church said you were a curse sent by God on Earth. A curse for the people who didn't believe in him or do destructive things," shared Liam the sins.
"They recognized and everybody from France heard about me," amused La Bête on the situation. "I fascinated the European people. The journalist laughed at Louis XV when said to everybody about the vain attempt to get me."
"I expected you angry Louis XV," thought Gabe.
"I angry him and forced someone to stalk me," related La Bête and showed a history book. "Duhamel left Gevaudan on 8 April and I was happy because he had an unknown enemy to fight against."
"From where came from? Why do you smile?" wondered Kincaid and saw his reaction.
"That guy came from somewhere from the north. I followed him to see if he was able to accommodate the geography," responded La Bête at the question. "The north man did not expect to find so many mountains, marshes. Too much snow and didn't learn I could run all over so long distances."
"Why to run when you could be with people?" asked Kali and explained. "The people from century nineteen weren't so smart."
"After some failed attempts, Enneval made a new tactic," related La Bête and shared everything. "He with other 10.000 people went to track me down. They failed because nobody knew the Beast of Gevaudan hunt with them the beast."
"That happened on 21 April 1765," divulged Liam and saw some notes.
"God's name, you deserved to be the first werewolf that existed," said Ennis and smiled. "You are a model for werewolves in the world."
"They were so dull. They killed 17 wolves to lure me out," said La Bête regretted the deaths. "I knew they wanted to lure me out, but why you needed to slaughter a few wolves for that? "
"The people are stupid," replied Liam to excuse their actions.
"On January 1765, I captured a kid," said La Bête and specified. "Jacques Portefaix who had twelve years old with other kids came after me to release him."
"Teeth for teeth and eye for an eye," said Gabe and explained the murderers. "They slew our children, you slew their children."
"On 14 March I wound a nine years girl and let her mother, Jeanne Jouve releasing her. The girl would not survive because of wounds," related La Bête and said full of surprise. "I didn't expect could survive another six years."
"She wished to be alive was stronger than death, but she had to die," explained Liam her strong will.
"On 11 August I allowed a woman named Marie-Jeanne Valet, twenty years old. She wound me because I wanted to prove was possible if you wanted," said La Bête and hiding something. "That woman remembered as The Maid of Gevaudan. Louis XV rewarded her with others mans with money for courage."
"On 1765, June King sent Mister Antoine to Gevaudan to replace Ennevel. He left at orders sent from Versailles on 18 July," said Kincaid and read from the book. "Antoine hunted the remaining wolves and his hunt was inefficient."
"Two people surrendered because of you," said Ennis and asked. "You caused some problems?"
"On 16 August something strange happened. It was a dispute between Chastel's family and Antoine," said La Bête full of surprise. "His sons were under arrest by Antoine. He would leave Gevaudan and I profited from this situation."
"You stopped your attacks. You gave people feeling it must be a coincidence between him and you," deduced Kali his huge plot.
"I bit a wolf to make more powerful and bigger," said la Bête and shared. "On 21 September captured the wolf. They stuffed and exhibited at the chateau of Versailles on October 1."
"It delighted the people because the threat was over, but you start your attacks again," said Gabe
"Louis XV, gave him the killed wolf as a trophy. I bored to hunt another person," said La Bête and made a short pause. "In 1766, I began my attacks. The tragic part, nobody interested to know about me any longer."
"Your popularity that you gained in two years diminished," concluded Liam with sadness.
"Such dreadful mistakes I made with the poor wolf. A few people discover my den," related La Bête, and showed the location. "My den was mounts of Grand Chauvat. The people gave up, going to church to pray to God to stop the beast. God listened to their prayers because I was with them."
"How you the people would react when they would discover the truth about you," said Kincaid and put in their shows.
"Me either. I must write a book about it," said La Bête and laugh a bit. "Also, in the spring of 1767, I resumed my attacks more fierce than ever. I cut the throat of a woman named Rose Vernay on 29 April and on 4 May I devoured a nun,"
"The fourth person comes preventing you?" wondered Ennis
"A nobleman at 19 named Marquis de Apcher tracked me. He took Jean Chastel with another person," said La Bête and tried to recall the name. "They took a high-quality powder. On 17 June a killed a Jeantime Bastide, who had 19 years old being my ultimate victim."
"Your reign ended too soon, but you spread terror," said Kali
"On June 1767 I killed a dog. I ran away," said La Bête and related his death. "Chastel followed me and I was on his face when wounded me in the heart with a silver bullet."
"Charming story," said Gabe and regretted the end. "You are curious to know what happened next?"
"True," confirmed La Bête with amazement.
"After you died, they stuffed and exhibited in the castle of Apecher," revealed Liam and smiled. "They sent your body to Versailles, where they bury your body in secret in a garden."
"Jean Castel received 75 livers because he slew you," said Ennis with fun.
"People supposed you were a hybrid between," said Kali and shared their theories. "From 1764 to 1776 you made over 200 attacks. 90 of them were lethal and only 36 people survived and you succeed to traumatize the region."
"You should go back in Gevaudan, roar one more time because would go mad," advised Kincaid and showed his eyes.
"Kincaid, you tempt me to do that. I refuse the offer. It is late," said La Bête and got up from the couch. "You want to propose something that I never told you?"
"You do not tell us why you create this pack. I with Liam we were not werewolves, but you made us," said Gabe and questioned hos actions. "Why you accomplished that?"
"Is an intriguing question to end the day. I am a natural chimera," replied La Bête, and shared a huge secret. "My mother was a werewolf and a dog who bit by a werewolf bit, my father."
"So you are a hybrid, a natural one," concluded Liam and note in a notebook.
"You made a pack," said Kincaid and showed everybody.
"We are the alpha pack," said Kali and specified. "The alpha pack of La Bête du Gevaudan."
"Deucalion is alive and is powerful," said Ennis and advised, "We convince him to join us."
"It is a brilliant idea, Ennis. It doesn't want to join us it would kill us," said La Bête with some regret. "We need a Druid to be our emissary."
"The story ended, but I recall Dread Doctors told me La Bête caused close to 500 deaths," said Liam with some doubt.
"I don't recall such things," said La Bete tried to remember something. "Also, are two possibilities. The first possibility is wiping my memory, and the second is a copycat or something like that.
It was getting dark and the alpha pack of La Bête went to sleep. Nobody suspected the return of the Gevaudan beast to life. Nobody cognized what he was capable to do. Nobody knew about the chaos that would arise from the Darach.
