I think I wrote this after the second movie and I completely forgot it existed. It was sitting somewhere on my hard-drive and I just came across it, so I figured I'd upload it. It's a bit rough around the edges, but if someone enjoys it that's good enough.
It's been a month since the dance and spirit day was about to start. Carlos was looking for Jane because he knew that she was put in charge of organizing everything.
"I don't feel like doing this anymore, why are we helping anyway, we've got practice right after this." Chad says as he walks over to Jane. "I'm done helping set up, I want to be lazy before practice."
"You volunteered to help, can you at least finish putting up the tables?" Jane asks
"I thought others would be helping to that's why I volunteered in the first place. Anyway there's a lot of other people why don't you get one of them to help?" Chad argued
"Because you volunteered, and I don't have time to ask other people for help." Jane said
"Hey Jane, Audrey and the rest of the cheerleaders are going to be here afterwards to set up the streamers right?" Carlos asked "I already told them that the team was working on it." Carlos looks around kind of surprised. "Man they're further behind than I thought! I wonder what the cheerleaders are going to think?"
"Audrey, I mean the cheerleaders are going to be coming?" Chad ask
"Yeah, Audrey and the cheerleaders thought that with the full team behind it you guys would finish in a snap. But I guess you guys didn't want to, it looks like they are going to be let down." Carlos said
"Who said we don't want to finish it?" Chad turned around and spoke to the team "Guys the cheerleaders are coming in later we can't let it look like we didn't do anything"
Jane turns to Carlos "Thanks you saved me, we're a little behind schedule already, if they stopped I would have had to ask people to stay really late just so that we could catch up."
"Do you want to go out with me tomorrow? Today looks a little swamped." Carlos asked
"I can't I have to set up the stage for the band and the choir. While seeing who we can get to cater for us." Jane looked at Carlos and saw that he was slightly disappointed. "I really, really want to go I just don't have the time. Maybe after spirit day?" She felt so bad she made the plans before and forgot that she was in charge of the spirit day parade and banquet.
Carlos could see that Jane was sad "Jane do you mind if I see your schedule really quick?" He asked looking over the planner "If you let the choir and the band set up the stage they would probably like it because they are performing on it. You can see if their teacher would allow them to make the plan during their class this way they just jump in and start decorating right away." Carlos was making notes on the schedule.
"Make sure that the choir and the band aren't on stage at the same time because that would just cause them to argue and waste time. While the choir is setting up you should try ordering the caterer. When the band is setting up you should ask the path they want to take for the parade and get them to move the tables this should let them move anyway they want, so they should like that." Carlos said "With all of the changes that should let you get an hour and a half off, 2 and a half if we're lucky." Carlos leaned forward and gave Jane a peck on the cheek "I have to help set up for practice, oh and when you're talking to the caterer make sure you say King Ben and number of royal figures will be present, that should make negotiations easier."
Jane didn't know where he was getting his optimism from, he was taking about saving two hours like it was nothing. But she looking forward to their date so she was willing to give it a shot. After Carlos left Jane called the choir and band directors.
The next day Jane was surprised how everything just fell into place, they finished almost everything within an hour after school.
Fairy Godmother came in and she was surprised "Jane this is amazing!"
"Thanks mom I already have the caterer picked out, and a map of where the band is going to march for the parade." Jane said smiling at her mom
"We started a little late this year but it looks like everything is ahead of schedule, how did you do all of this? Fairy godmother asked
"Hi Jane ready for our date?" Carlos asked as came through the door, then his eyes opened wide. "Oh! Hi Mrs. Fairy Godmother do you mind if I take Jane out for a while?"
"I don't see why not, Jane is ahead of schedule on all of the preparation for spirit day." Fairy Godmother said
Carlos exhaled "I was not expecting your mom to be there."
"How did you know that everything was going to work out so well? Everything went exactly the way you said." Jane asked
"I just got a little lucky that's all." Carlos said
"This is more than a little luck, you saved me when Chad was about to quit, and sped up everything by three hours. You were rounding down before when you said that this might save two hours? Carlos this is like a gift" Jane said
"Trust me it's not a gift." Carlos said looking down
"Why not you organized everything so easily?" Jane asked
"You know who my mom is right? Carlos asked
"Yeah, Cruella De Vil" Jane said
"Her name is kind of synonymous with Cruel and I'm sure you heard people shorten our last name to Devil." Carlos said with a sad smile.
"Carlos" Jane said
"Jane look, back when I was young my mom would tell me
'Have you ever wondered why I'm here with the big three? I wasn't born with magic like that fairy, or born with a status like that queen or that advisor. I'm here because I know how to manipulate one of the oldest forms of capitol other people.
I was rich before I was banished to this dinky old island, and you know how I got there? I was able to read people and see what they want. If I teach you anything Carlos it's that winning isn't about beating someone, it's about getting what you want! If you can see what someone else wants, you can use that to control them and that's real power! If you really want to be at the top that means being able controlling everybody below you, being able to use what they want to your advantage.'
Chad isn't the smartest, but he was right. When you guys were learning to be kind, and to play fair; we weren't.
One of the first things I learned when I was young was; One: no one want's to do more work, that they are always willing to take a short cut. Two: everyone wants to look good. Three: everyone wants something, or they want to avoid something else. If you can use those to your advantage, you can manipulate almost anyone. Oh but the scariest thing that my mom taught me was the best way to manipulate someone is to let them think it's their own idea." Carlos said, and he could see that Jane was a little scared. "Sorry about that, I break you away from decorating for spirit day and I end up scaring you."
"I'm not scared, just a little sad. P.s. I've seen teddy bears scarier than you." Jane said
"At first I was sad because, I thought I scared my girlfriend. Now I'm sad for a completely different reason." Carlos couldn't help but laugh
"I mean you were scary before, but that's because the only thing I knew about you was… your mother. After getting to know you, seeing you play with buddy, and actually talking to you I can't imagine being afraid of you." Jane said
"Maybe this is a facade to get people to lower their guard and make them easier to use." Carlos said with a straight face, then all he could hear is Jane laughing hysterically.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry" Jane said wiping a tear away. "But your mom is scary, and you definitely aren't your mom."
Carlos felt relived hearing that from Jane "But she still taught me everything she knows." Carlos said
"Yes, and you never use it, and technically not everything she taught you was bad it's just that your mom is really bad. She's cruel and she would manipulate people just for fun, she would make people do things they don't want to just because she could. You just used it to get out of a bad situation, that and technically you only manipulated Chad. Everything else was just foresight, you know how to read people and organize things." Jane said
Carlos scratched his head "Am I really not the slightest bit scary, at all?" he asked
"I mean if people don't know you, I guess? You fought a lot of people on the island I'm sure they're afraid of you." Jane hugged him "Well then again I am your girlfriend so I know you well enough to know that you're really not a bad person"
Carlos hugged her back 'She really knows me' he thought with a slight smile on his face. "Well, being your boyfriend I do know that you're ticklish." He said
Jane's eyes shot open "Well, maybe you're a little scary."
