The next few days were tense for Rob. He made a flurry of calls to Richie in LA. He had to make sure everything was set up, and that no one would arrive before he had a chance to finally tell Laura. He certainly didn't want her wondering why strangers were setting up folding chairs in the back yard!

Laura, having known Rob for so many years, noticed that something was off. She had a feeling it had to do with their anniversary, but she chose not to say anything. She knew her husband would be terribly disappointed if she ruined whatever surprise he was working on.

The morning of their anniversary, Rob awoke, already feeling excited. He looked over at Laura, still asleep. He could vividly recall proposing to her in that Jeep. He'd never been so nervous! But now, all he felt was excitement over what was to come. Richie was flying in from California, just in time for the festivities. Rob knew Laura would've liked their son to stay longer, but his schedule wouldn't allow it. No doubt Laura would make him promise to visit again as soon as he was able.

Laura awoke, feeling Rob's eyes on her. "Hello," she said, kissing him. "Happy anniversary!"

Rob gave in to the kiss at once. Even after all these years, he still felt the same thrill. He held her close. There was no way this feeling could ever get old.

"Mm," Laura said, seeing the way things were going. "I could stay like this all day..." She leaned forward kissing him again.

This time, Rob came to his senses. He gently pushed her off. "I would gladly do that. Really, I would love nothing more. But we can't."

"Why?" Laura asked. "You didn't make plans with Jerry today, did you?" She glared at him.

"Well, Jerry is involved, but I think you're going to like this," Rob said, smiling.

Laura was relieved to see he had remembered. "So, what do you have planned?"

"A wedding," Rob said. "Ours. I mean, the first one wasn't exactly what you imagined, so I thought you deserved something better."

"Oh, Rob!" Laura kissed him, even longer and deeper than before. But the kiss ended abruptly. "Oh! What am I going to wear?!"

Rob smiled. "Honey, you have so many dresses. I'm sure any one of them would be fine."

"But what about my hair? And makeup? What time is everyone coming?"

"Whatever you wear, whatever makeup you put on, you'll look beautiful. Just like always." He gave her a reassuring kiss.

Laura took a deep breath, feeling herself finally calm down. Rob loved her more than she deserved. He'd gone to all this trouble to make this day memorable for her.

"If it'll help you get ready, I'll go in the kitchen and have a breakfast, and then I'll talk to the workers setting up in the backyard. Rich assured me he had everything planned to the last detail."

The mention of her son made Laura smile. She hadn't seen him in months, so this was an extra surprise. "Oh, Rob," she said, unable to contain herself. "I knew you were up to something, but I never imagined this!"

Rob kissed her. Seeing the look on her face reminded him why he'd wanted to do this in the first place. "Well, you get married just once in your life, and I didn't want your only memory to be kissing me in an Army hospital!"

Laura knew in that moment that she would have married Rob anywhere. But this was sure to be a very memorable experience for everyone.
