The Tale of Two Fractured Souls

Chapter 4

"How was your first day?" Lillian asked as she passed him the bowl of corn.

"Better than expected. One of the girls in my support group actually goes to my school with me."

"Oh? Is she a potential girlfriend?"

"I mean she is beautiful. Though we both have issues to work through, so I don't see anything happening. At least not this soon that is."

"Well that's perfectly alright."

"So how was your day?"

"Great."

"That's good. Do you think I can be excused? I have some homework to do."

"Of course. I'll be down here if you need anything."

Nodding, Damon went to his room as he pulled out his homework from his bag and started to do it wanting nothing more than to just get this over with when his phone chimed. Elena.

'Hey stranger. What are you doing?'

'Just doing some homework, what about you?'

'Bleh. You do homework? Well I'm just hanging out at the skate park if you want to join me for a little wholesome fun.'

'I may have to take you up on that some other time. New kid so I must make a good impression. Thanks for the offer though'

'Lame. Enjoy the homework. Maybe I'll see you at school tomorrow.'

'You can bet on it' Damon answered as he put away his phone trying to concentrate on his homework but failing too. Dammit.

'Does that offer still stand?"'

'Of course, it does. I'll text you the address.'

Putting his phone down, Damon freshened up making sure that everything was in order before he came down surprising Lilly before telling her where he was going and going out the door to meet Elena hoping that this outing would be a fun one cause that's exactly what he needed.

"Hey Salvatore. Long time no see."

"Didn't we talk to each other yesterday?" Damon teased as Elena punched him in the shoulder.

Her skateboard was by her side as the strap of her helmet hung lose. Damon bucked it for her as she gazed at her confused.

"Safety first." He smiled as she shrugged.

"Whatever you say. Where's your skateboard?"

"Don't own one I'm afraid. Just thought I'd come and hang out."

"Well you might get bored while I'm over there, but some of the guys are home if you want to meet them and chill for a bit."

"That sounds nice."

"Then by all means, follow me." She smiled as she led him to a group of guys who stopped talking and looked up as they approached.

"Hey Gilbert. Who's this?" one of them with blonde hair asked assessing Damon like most people do.

"This is Damon Salvatore, he's new to school."

"Hey bro nice to meet you. I'm Matt."

"Tyler." Another one smiled as he took a sip of his energy drink handing it to the guy next to him.

"Alaric." The final one smiled before Damon sat down next to them as Elena placed down her skateboard.

"I'm gonna skate. Have fun boys." She said with a smile as Damon focused on trying to get to know her friends.

"So, how did you meet Elena?" Matt asked curious.

"We're in the same support group for foster kids." Damon responded looking over at Elena, who seemed to be enjoying herself.

"Interesting. How long have you been in the system?"

"Ever since I was a baby."

"Damn bro. I'm sorry that seems rough."

"Yeah. It can be tough at times, but no one's life is perfect."

"I hear you on that one. Sometimes it feels like it's just me raising myself and my sister."

"Mom and dad not in the picture?" Damon asked.

"Barely and when they are, I wish they weren't, you know?"

"Yeah. I get it. Sometimes its not bad being by yourself."

Before Matt could answer, Elena flipped over on her skateboard landing on her face as the guys rushed over to her to see how she was. Shit. Her nose was gushing with blood and looked slightly crooked.

"Shit. I think I broke my nose." Elena whined.

"You guys stay here. I'm going to take her to the hospital." Damon said helping Elena up thinking that this day was not turning out the way that he was expecting.
