A/N: Guess who's back? Back again. Shady's back. Tell a friend. Guess who's back. guess who's back…guess who—ah you get the picture.
It's been a while hasn't it (since I could…okay enough song references). Inspired by the latest episode of DuckTales, (3X9 "Rumble for Ragnarok"), this is a wrestling-centric fanfic about our favorite Ducks. I've tried my best to make it so that those who don't understand wrestling can be able to follow through with the story anyway, but if you haven't seen the episode, check it out. It's pretty cool. I am very much appreciative of Launchpad's knowledge of wrestling, considering I'm a fan myself. But anyway, the episode got me wondering. What kind of matches could the family and friends of the Duck family put on? In the main event of the Grandest Stage? A multi-person ladder match? An all-out war of attrition between the two Scots who hate each other's guts? WAAARR GAAAAMMEEES! ( William Regal).
Anyway, here's to hoping it does well here on the main DuckTales section of this website. If not, I just might make some changes and move it over to the crossover with Wrestling. I am already going to introduce at least one actual name from pro wrestling, that being commentator Mauro Ranallo. And just as a side note, wrestling is, if you haven't heard, very complicated to understand. One of the most important parts of a wrestling show is a hype video package. I tried my best to describe the way one should go in this chapter, so hopefully it works. I'm honestly too mentally drained from school to actually write out the entire buildup to this wrestling match. Oh well, here goes. As always feel free to let me know what's up.
Did I talk too much?
WRESTLEMANIA 33 – 4/2/2017 ORLANDO, FL (Commentators: Mauro Ranallo & Launchpad McQuack)
"Ladies and gentlemen," the ring announcer began, the crowd quieting slightly to listen. "You have officially set the Camping World Stadium attendance record of 72,245! Congratulations!"
OFFICIAL THEME SONG: "Greenlight" – Pitbull (ugh), Flo Rida, Lunch Money Lewis
Cause I'm ready to go, oh oh
oh-wee-oh-wee-oooh wee-oh-wee
oh oh oh!
Fireworks went off from all over the stadium as the music played throughout. The light show resulting from the fireworks was nothing short of spectacular. It had already been a long and eventful night filled with highlights. But the night was far from over. There was one more match left to be contested. And it was by far the most anticipated one of the night.
Mauro Ranallo: And we're not done yet. The main event is finally here. The long-awaited showdown between the World Heavyweight Champion Dewey Duck and the unlikely Webby Vanderquack. And this match will prove to be the toughest challenge yet for both competitors.
-HIGHLIGHT REEL-
ROYAL RUMBLE: With one final burst of energy, Webby tossed Louie over the top rope before collapsing backwards onto the canvas. The bell rang once Louie's feet spiraled over and hit the floor sending him crashing to the ground.
Mauro Ranallo: WEBBY VANDERQUACK WINS THE ROYAL RUMBLE!
Launchpad McQuack: SHE'S PULLED OFF THE UNTHINKABLE!
The entire Alamodome crowd almost instantly shot up from their seats with utter joy. Fans were cheering all over like crazy. The unlikely heroine climbed the turnbuckle and, keeping with tradition, pointed to the WrestleMania sign. Fireworks shot from all around it in celebration of the next superstar set to headline WrestleMania.
TWO DAYS LATER ON SMACKDOWN: "This is all I've wanted for as long as I could remember," she proclaimed on the microphone. "After years of being sheltered, not having any outside contact, not being able to see the world not a goddamn day passed by where I didn't dream of finally earning a World Title opportunity, and now—NOW—I get that chance at WrestleMania!" she finished with passion, almost in tears.
The World Heavyweight Champion Dewey Duck appeared to congratulate Webby looking forward to their match at WrestleMania.
"Webbs," he began on his own microphone, "I came out here to say from the bottom of my heart, congratulations! I have been waiting for this match to happen for a very long time. You are one of the most fearless and powerful competitors I've seen. And now our opportunity is here to steal the show at the Grandest Stage of Them All!" He paused to let the crowd fill the arena with "This is awesome" chants. Then he continued.
"Now my question is…can you get the job done when it matters most?" he asked, lowering his voice. His gaze changed as the champion and challenger now stared intently into each other's eyes.
"That's a good question," she responded, "but I'll do you one better. How do we know you're even going to make it to WrestleMania as Champion?" This question earned an "ooohhhh" from the crowd. This sweetened the pot a little further as Webby made an excellent point. Dewey still had to survive the Elimination Chamber.
ELIMINATION CHAMBER PPV 2 WEEKS LATER: The last two combatants remaining inside the Chamber were Dewey, perched on top of a chamber pod, and Louie Duck, laid out completely on the ring floor. Pushing off his feet, Dewey took the leap of faith of a lifetime, soaring about 13 feet in the air before crashing down driving his elbow right into the sternum of his brother, subsequently pinning him for the count.
Mauro Ranallo: The One and Only has survived the Elimination Chamber. So it'll be Webby vs. Dewey for the Title at WrestleMania
TWO DAYS LATER ON SMACKDOWN: The stage was really starting to be set for their epic showdown, but Webby still had a lot to prove according to the champion. That didn't stop her from keeping her head held high.
"You know I couldn't help but notice," she began, "you barely walked out of that Elimination Chamber on your own accord…" This earned a questioning gaze from Dewey. "But knowing you, if I didn't know any better, I'd say I had my work cut out for me."
"You think it's easy to run down the gauntlet?" He asked almost begrudgingly. "Why don't you go ahead and do it yourself?" And she did.
NEXT WEEK ON SMACKDOWN: Webby ran through five of the top competitors including Dewey's own two brothers. Dewey, who was watching the entire match from ringside, seemed impressed, as he watched Webby scramble up to her feet using the ropes after having toppled Huey. Webby's eyes immediately went fixated on the championship gold Dewey raised high above his shoulder. However, in Dewey's mind, a small semblance of doubt began to form. She could barely make it to her own feet after running the gauntlet. Could she go the distance at WrestleMania?
NEXT WEEK ON SMACKDOWN: They were set to sign the contract for their match, making it official. After signing his name on the contract, Dewey raised his mic to speak.
"I gotta say, I was impressed with your performance last week. But it's gonna take a lot more than a handful of fluke victories to prove to me that you've got what it takes." Webby squinted. What did he say?
"A handful of what victories?" She asked, just to make sure she heard right. Dewey raised his microphone, thinking of how he was going to cover up what he said.
"A handful of victories…" he replied. Webby wasn't having it, though. Fluke? If she was able to run through the same set of competitors as he did, doesn't that mean that they're basically on the same level. There was no way that what he said could possibly make sense. This drove Webby to do something crazy.
Dewey watched as she took the pen and dug it deep into her finger, letting blood trickle from it.
Mauro Ranallo: Oh—oh my god is she—?
Launchpad McQuack: She's signing the contract in her own blood! That's crazy!
She winced at the pain before removing the pen. She smeared her name in her blood on the contract before shoving her bloodied finger in front of Dewey's face. After a few seconds, she grabbed his head and smashed it in with her elbow, sparking a fight between the two. The two traded crushing blows to each other's heads, Dewey ultimately getting the better of her with a stiff knee to the gut. He stuck her head between his legs and hoisted her by her waist, flipping her over so that she sat on his shoulders facing him. He turned around and slammed her hard into the ground: a Powerbomb right through the table, breaking it in half. Dewey stood tall above her raising his championship high above his head.
TALKING HEAD INTERVIEW: "Dewey's gonna go around telling people that I may not be able to get the job done?" she asked. "That's fine. Yeah, sure, he's got my number, but I know now what I have to do. [PLAYED OVER CLIPS OF WEBBY TRAINING MORE RIGOROUSLY WITH BEAKLEY] I am going back with my Granny to train harder and much more differently than ever before."
SEPARATE TALKING HEAD INTERVIEW: "I'm not underestimating her at all." Dewey claimed. "I said all that just to rile her up a little. To get her motivated. In fact, I'm kind of rooting for her a bit. But I'm not going to hold back. When she has to be, she's relentless and fierce. All I want to know is if she has that one extra little spark that can possibly set her above me…"
PLAYED OVER VARIOUS CLIPS OF WEBBY IN ACTION: "This is what this industry means to me!" She shouted through gritted teeth. "This is what this ring, these people, that Title means to me! You wanna know if I can go the distance?! I guarantee you are going to get the absolute best version of Webby Vanderquack that anyone has ever seen!"
PLAYED OVER VARIOUS CLIPS OF DEWEY IN ACTION: "It's gonna take hell of a whole lot more than your best when you stand in the ring with The One and Only!" Dewey clapped back.
PLAYED OVER VARIOUS CLIPS OF BOTH IN ACTION: Mauro Ranallo: Neither superstar is holding back! Which one is going to come out on top at WrestleMania?!
[The highlight reel ends with a freeze frame of Dewey raising his Championship as he stands off with Webby]
-WRESTLEMANIA-
We return to live footage of WrestleMania, the grandest wrestling show of the year. Over 70,000 rabid WWE fans were seated in the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida in anticipation nearing the end of a long, yet already eventful night. And now it was time for the main event. The lights begin to fade, until one light is shone on a violin player on the stage.
The musician began playing a very beautiful solo before being joined by a fellow violinist, who, upon beginning to play, had another spotlight shone on her. As more musicians joined, a cello, viola, bass, the spotlights shone on each one as they appeared. They filled the stadium with beautiful sound. A musical performance that could only encapsulate one thing: grandeur, strength, and excellence. They continued playing until one lone stroke of a viola was heard, ending the serenade. The musicians paused to let the crowd cheer their performance. The lights slowly returned when viola player then began to play a familiar melody…
Remember The Name – Fort Minor feat. Styles Of Beyond
A sizable amount of crowd members almost immediately shouted in utter jubilation upon knowing the song. The rest of the musicians joined her in recreating the iconic melody in grand orchestral fashion. The crowd began clapping in time as they realized there was no drummer. Just the orchestra…and Webby Vanderquack who slowly walked out onto the stage next to where the musicians were stationed. She wore a pair of light blue sweats underneath her usual lavender skirt, along with a light pink top adorned with a giant "W" in baby blue.
The minute she walked out, she was almost lost. Staring out into the crowd nearly blurred her vision. She realized what was going on and ultimately brought herself back into focus. She let the live music drive her as she cracked her knuckles. She continued walking down the ramp, which spanned from one end of the stadium to the very middle. A smirk began to grow on her face. This was it. She was ready.
Oh my God, oh my God it's actually happening! she screamed internally. I am walking down the ramp of WrestleMania…in the main event…to an awesome rendition of "Remember The Name" by Fort Minor, she continued to think to herself as she made her way down the ramp. But there was no true set of words that could really capture what it felt like to be at this stage in her career. A live orchestra playing her to the ring. Tens of thousands of rabid fans cheering her on…and the match hadn't even begun! She climbed onto the apron and entered the ring immediately finding her way to the nearest corner where she climbed the turnbuckle to stare out into the sea of fans.
It was a sight unlike any other. The lights couldn't be any brighter. But she wasn't starstruck. She couldn't afford to be. She knew where she was and why she was there. Tonight was going to be her moment. She knew it. As the orchestra finished their mini-concert, she jumped back off the turnbuckle and let out a war cry-like scream as the crowd cheered her on. And then she saw her…her grandmother. They exchanged eye contact. Beakley gave her a nod of approval. After another few seconds, another familiar song played throughout the stadium.
Stronger – Kanye West
Wearing his sunglasses and blue letterman jacket over only his navy blue trunks and the World Heavyweight Championship belt, the Champion walked out to a very different crowd reaction than he was used to. Normally, Dewey would be the most popular wrestler in any arena he walked into. Sure, he was a bit cocky at times, an attitude characteristic of a heel, but the babyface Dewey Duck was always capable of backing up his talk in the ring, garnering plenty of respect from the fans of wrestling. The mentioning of his name would always garner such an explosive response, and the crowd never hesitated chanting his name, willing him on through every match. That was until tonight. In the weeks leading up to WrestleMania, the fans have grown more sympathetic toward his rival, who had quite the story to tell. Dewey Duck was an established name. Webby Vanderquack was an up-and-comer on a meteoric rise. It just so happened that on this very night, her popularity was all but larger than his. Dewey raised his eyebrow, almost smirking at the audible mixture of cheers and boos. As was traditionally part of his entrance, he amped himself up through the intro in the song. He wound his right arm back, almost as if he were preparing to punch the air.
…(I need you right now)
Let's get lost (BOOM!) tonight
At the word "lost," he threw his arm forward, prompting an explosion of pyrotechnics to shoot into the sky. He then continued to make his way down the ramp, wiping his nose, not taking his eyes off his challenger, whom he stared down intently. It was almost as if a Kanye West song was apropos for his demeanor tonight. He didn't give a care in the world on what his haters thought. At the same time, he had a responsibility to not let down his own fans. The confidence never left his stride as he continued walking. Usually he was the good guy, but this time around, there was another good guy, or good girl, sharing the ring with him. She had the skill. She had the look. She had a connection with the audience like no other. And so did he. It was almost as if the fans were forced to choose between two heroes. Yet, their choice couldn't be any clearer than it was tonight.
He reached the ring and walked up the steel steps situated at the corner. Upon setting his feet on the apron, he climbed up, placing one foot on the middle rope, and the other on the top rope. He pointed to the sky, eliciting that mixture of cheers and boos from the audience. He then hopped over the ropes and into the ring, removing his World Heavyweight Championship belt. He made his way over to the ropes again, raising the Title in the air. The song faded, making the crowd response almost deafening. The bell rang so the introductions could begin. The announcer stood in the ring as the stadium lights once again faded into two spotlights: one on the champion and one on the challenger, both staring each other directly in the eye.
"The following contest is schedule for one fall!" he began, pausing to let the crowd respond with "one fall!" He continued, "and it is for the World Heavyweight Championship!
"Introducing first: the challenger. From Manchester, England, she is the winner of the 2017 Royal Rumble match…WEBBY VANDERQUACK!" he finished proudly, pausing for applause before continuing.
"And her opponent. From Duckburg, U.S.A. weighing in at two hundred and four pounds…he is the World Heavyweight Champion…The One and Only…Dewey DUCK!" Dewey raised his Title, not taking his eyes off Webby. The mix of cheers and boos did not faze him. He was focused on one thing and only one thing: proving that he was indeed the One and Only. He proceeded to hand the belt to the referee, who presented it to both competitors before raising it high above her head, signaling that the match was for the championship.
Mauro Ranallo: That is what it is all about ladies and gentlemen. The richest prize in the industry is on the line in a match that has been anticipated by so many. I have no doubt in my mind that these two will not disappoint.
After handing the belt to the timekeeper, the lights returned to normal. The referee signaled for the bell to be rung…and rung it was. The match has officially begun.
A/N: And we end here for the time being. The match begins, of course, when we return.
