I'll be posting these one-shots every few days just to give myself something to do and you guys something to read. BTW this is a little whump story I made. Kind of a part two to 'Promises' but it can be read as a stand alone. I'm tired, I'm going to bed.
Goodnight guys and stay safe and sanitized!
Wishes were just childish thoughts that one would hope to come true but never did.
People wished upon shooting stars or wishing wells or fountains. Ochako didn't believe in stuff like that, not really. Sure, when she was a kid she made plenty of wishes. That her parents would be truly happy and that her family wouldn't be poor. She wished she could help them out more.
None of those wishes came true.
But, dear god she hopes this wish does come true.
It was all her fault he was like this, on the brink of death. Struggling to hang on when all she got were bruises and cuts here and there. The ambulance was no place for her best friend/boyfriend to die, but here they were.
Ochako, Deku and a few others from her class were just wanding the mall when a villain attacked for no reason. The bad guy's quirk was some-type of earth quirk that made the ground shift where ever he willed.
With the use of their provisional hero license, they evacuated as many people as they possibly could. The building was coming down and they all thought everyone was out. That was until someone yelled for her child and no one answered her cry for a few seconds before a little boy was seen in the distance stumbling over rubble and barely dodging falling debris. Deku's eyes locked on the boy.
No.
He started sprinting towards the child.
No.
"DEKU WAIT!" She yelled in hopes of him stopping but he continued as the rest of the mall crumbled relentlessly around him and the boy.
Ochako was about to run after them but Iida stopped her.
"Uraraka, wait."
She broke out his grasp as everyone plead for her to come back. But she was too late.
Large debris was falling right where her boyfriend and the kid was. He saw this and had no time to push the boy out of the way, even with his quirk activated. Uraraka plunged her hand out towards him in the small hopes that she could reach them.
She wasn't close enough.
Deku flashed a sad smile at her before throwing his body over the little boy and disappearing as the falling chunks of roof stacked on top of him.
DEKU!
Tears were spilling freely from her eyes as Iida, who had been chasing after her, grabbed her arm and jerked her back into the safe zone. At that moment the world had been drowned out by the sound of static, sirens, shouts and sobs. So much was happening and she didn't even remember much of when she helped the authorities free the people under the remains of concrete. Except for when they found Deku. Still protecting the crying boy. It was a horrifying sight to see. A pipe had impaled her boyfriend in the side and pieces of rock were puncturing the skin on his back. His left arm was twisted in a sickening way and blood pooled under him. He looked extremely relieved when they pulled out the uninjured boy from under him. A deep breathe out was enough for his eyes to roll to the far back of his head and fall to the ground as a jumble of bruised and broken limbs.
That's how they ended up here. One of the paramedics tending to him announced that Deku was slipping out of life's grasp. Ochako called out his name.
But what about her wish? Her last wish, for him to pull through and stay with her.
His heart beat was now fainter than ever before, he was leaving.
She screamed, yelled for him to stay with her and his friends.
He promised he wouldn't leave us. He was the type of person who kept his promises.
Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep.
She looked at the moniter in surprise, the heartbeat that was barely there a second ago was now as strong as ever.
"What the-" Turns out the medics were puzzled as well, but they didn't hesitate to get back to work at trying to keep him stable.
10 hours of emergency surgery, and she stayed in the waiting room for the whole time.
A nurse walked out with a clipboard in her hand and faced Uraraka.
"Mister Midoriya is stable now and is expected to make a full recovery."
She bawled. But they weren't tears of sadness or hurt.
Ochako Uraraka didn't believe in making wishes, they were pointless and wastes of time.
That was what she used to think, now, wishes don't seem that bad.
Because her last wish came true.
Maybe making the 1,000 paper cranes that one time actually did help.
Just maybe...
