An alarm sounded in the room of one Nikolina Gilbert, immediately waking her from her sleep. She groaned, rubbing her eyes and slowly opening them. The curtains were thankfully closed, so barely any light got into her room.
She stretched her arms to the side, knocking the alarm clock off the bedside table.
"Ugh, hell." she mumbled.
Nikolina threw the sheet to the side and got up from the bed, stumbling on her way over to the connected bathroom.
Her sister Elena, her brother Jeremy and her all use the same bathroom, as it is connected to all their rooms.
As she was taking her shower, she started thinking about the summer that has passed.
Since their parents death, Jeremy threw himself into drugs and bad company, meaning Vicki Donovan, Matt's older sister, and barely talking to them anymore.
She knows that this will pass, for goodnes sake, she watched the vampire diaries repeatedly, but now living this life, she's come to care for him as her brother and she just doesn't want to lose him too.
And Elena, well... Elena is now officially an introvert. Since they died, all she did was write in her stupid journal and barely gets out anymore. She even missed cheerleading camp.
I mean she kind of gets what Elena's feeling, but she misses their mischief and all the fun they used to have. They were queens of parties. And now, Nikolina feels alone.
All Nikolina did this summer was camp, shopping, shopping in Richmond and parties.
She tried to forget about the crash and stuff, so she and Tyler had lots of fun this summer, and then when she realised that she just can't be with him anymore, she can't use him as a form of stress relief anymore, she broke up with him.
And well, Tyler in return hooked up with Vicki even tho she's been hooking up with Jeremy.
Getting out of the shower, Nikolina went into her room, picking an outfit from her closet, a dark jeans, white shirt and a leather jacket with her grey Suade boots.
Once she's dressed herself up, she went to her vanity, putting some light make up on, picking her leather bag from the chair and going out of the room into a hallway.
Walking down the stairs she heard aunt Jenna say "Toast, I can make toast."
"It's all about the coffee, aunt Jenna." said Elena.
Now, in the kitchen, Nikolina walked to the coffee maker, not saying anything to greet them, she poured herself some coffee and took a sip.
"Ahhh." she moaned, loving this heavenly warm drink.
Jenna and Elena turned to look at her, amused.
"Is there coffee?" asked her little brother, Jeremy, taking Elena's cup from her hand.
"Good morning, family!" she said, kissing her aunt on the cheek, hugged her sister and ruffled Jeremy's hair.
Jenna laughed "Never change, Nikki."
"It's your first day of school and I'm totally unprepared. Lunch money?" she asked, handing them three 20$.
"I'm good." Elena said, while Jeremy took 40$ and I took my 20$.
"Okay, what am I missing? A number two pencil?" their aunt asked as she ran around the kitchen.
"Don't you have that presentation today?" asked Elena.
Jenna stopped to look at them "I'm meeting with my thesis advisor at" she looked at her watch, "Now. Crap, I'm late!" she exclaimed.
Nikolina moved behind Jenna, pushing her to the door. "Then go, we'll be fine." she said.
When the door closed, Elena turned to Jeremy "you okay?" she asked, concerned.
"Don't bother." he said, pushing Elena's hand off his shoulder.
"Elly, Jer do you two need a ride?" she asked.
"Bonnie's picking me up." smiled Elena.
As soon as Elena said that, the bang of the door closing could be heard.
Nikolina jumped "What is going on with him?" she mumbled putting her hand over her heart.
The rumble of the motor could be heard "That's Bonnie." said her sister.
"Okay, I'm coming with you." Nikolina said, picking her bag from the chair and her keys from the bowl, walking through the door with Elena.
"Soo, my grams is telling me that I'm psychic. Our ancestors were from Salem, witches and all that. I know, crazy, but she keeps going on and on about it and I'm like 'Put this woman in a home already'." said Bonnie as we were in her car driving to school.
"But then I started thinking, I predicted Obama and I predicted Heath Ledger, and I still think Florida will break off and turn into little resort islands," she continued "Elena! Back in the car." calling out to Elena who was looking through the window, as we passed the cemetery.
Elena turned her head around, facing Bonnie, she said "I, I'm sorry. I did it again, didn't I?
"You were telling us..." she said.
"That B is a psychic, or a witch or whatever." Nikolina answered, at the same time as Bonnie said "That I'm psychic now."
"Right. Okay, then predict something. About us." said Elena.
"I see..." started Bonnie, but out of nowhere, the bird hit the windshield causing Bonnie to swerve her car and and stopping it immediately.
"What was that?! Oh, my god! Elena, Nikki, are you okay?" asked Bonnie, panting while looking at Elena and myself.
"It's okay. I'm fine." answered Elena.
"I'm good. Just creeped out." Nikolina answered.
"It was like a bird or something. It came out of nowhere." Bonnie tried to explain what happened to Elena, wanting to calm her down.
The point of why is Bonnie doing this, it's simple. Elena suffers from PTSD, since she was in the car with our parents, she gets freaked out by cars and is taking some drugs the doctor prescribed her for the fear and the nightmares she has. The first month after the crash, Elena used to get panic attacks almost every day.
"Really, I can't be freaked out by cars for the rest of my life." said Elena.
"I predict this year is going to be kick ass. And I predict all the sad and dark times are over and both of you are going to be beyond happy." smiled Bonnie.
Elena and Nikolina smiled Back at her, Elena wishing her prediction comes true, Nikolina knowing that it somewhat will come true, but the sad and dark times are only just beginning.
Nikolina looked out the window, spotting a crow on a sign, she sighed.
'And so it begins.' she thought.
"Major lack of male real estate. Look at the shower curtain on Kelly Beech. She looks like a hot รข can I still say "tranny mess"?" Bonnie said as we were walking to our lockers.
"No, that's over." Elena and I said unanimously.
Bonnie smiled, amused saying "Ahh, find a man, coin a phrase. It's a busy year."
When we got to our lockers, Elena waved at Matt who was looking in his locker and when he went to close it, he looked to Elena, seeing the wave, he closed the locker and walked away. "He hates me." Elena said.
"That's not hate. That's "you dumped me, but I'm too cool to show it, but secretly I'm listening to Air Supply's greatest hits." Bonnie said and as she finished the sentance, Nikolina butted in the conversation between the two of them "He is sad Elly, he doesn't hate you. He just wants you back."
At that moment, a blonde bullet threw their arms over Elena and Nikolina.
"Elena, Nikky. Oh, my God. How are you? Oh, it's so good to see you. How is she? Is she good?" asked Caroline looking at Nikolina.
"Caroline, I'm right here. And I'm fine. Thank you." Elena answered.
The reason Care only asked about Elly is cause Care and her were together for like the whole summer, the basically saw each other every day.
"Really?" asked Care, concerned.
"Yes. Much better." answered Elly with a smile on her face, obviously lying through her teeth.
"Oh, you poor thing." Caroline said as she hugged Elly again.
"Okay, Caroline." Elena said, getting out of the hug by patting Care on her back.
"Oh! Okay, see you guys later?" Care asked with a smile on her face and walking away from them.
"OK! Bye!" Elena and Nikolina said.
"No comment." said Elena looking at Bonnie and her.
"I'm not going to say anything." Bonnie answered, Nikolina softly pushing Bonnie to her locker "Guys, c'mon she's our friend." Bonnie and Elena looked to her throwing their hands up in the air as if to say 'No more'.
When we walked past the school's office we saw an unfamiliar back, well technically familiar to Nikolina, unfamiliar to Bonnie and Elena.
"Hold up. Who's this?" Bonnie asked stopping infront of the office. Nikolina and Elena stopped their walk, too and looked at the guy's back.
"All I see is back." said Elena.
"It's a hot back." replied Bonnie.
Nikolina nodded her head in agreement. "I'm sensing Seattle, and he plays the guitar." Bonnie said.
"Mmm, no. I am sensing family problems, a dark secret by the way he's dressed, and a wish to know one girl. Elena, call dibs. He'll totally be yours by the night of the Comet."
Stefan Salvatore, who was listening in on their conversation, sucked in his breath, confused as to how could she know that.
Elena and Bonnie looked at her amused.
"Seriously, since when are you a psychic? And you, Bonnie, you're really going to run this whole psychic thing into the ground, huh?" laughed Elena.
"Pretty much." Bonnie answered casually.
"I could be a psychic or I could just be a really good reader of a man's backside." replied Nikolina, all serious. Bonnie and Elena laughed at this.
"Jeremy, good batch, man." a boy's voice could be heard saying.
"I'll be right back." Elena said, her lips pulled into a tightly. "You coming?" she asked Nikolina.
"No, I'll stay with B, I'll talk to Jer later." Nikolina replied.
"Please be hot." said Bonnie, as they saw Stefan turn around and getting out the door.
Nikolina tapped Bonnie's hand, motioning to her that she'll go talk to Stefan. She walked up to him, standing beside him, she greeted "Hi, you must be new. Haven't seen you before. I'm Nikolina Gilbert and you are?"
Stefan turned to look at her "Stefan Salvatore. Yeah, I'm new." he answered.
Stefan, now looking at her, can't realize why she looks so familiar. With blonde hair, blue green eyes, and a face structure of both Elena and Katherine, she looks strikingly beautiful.
"Well, If you need any help getting around the school, I can show you. Though, don't worry, I'm not throwing myself at you." she laughed, and what a laugh it was. Strikingly similar to Katherine's, the laugh that is just so infectious, soft, gentle, yet husky at the same time. Stefan thinks if he didn't have any self control, he would have kissed her senseless, that laugh was sensual.
"Thank you, If I need any help, I'll tell you." he smiled at her.
"Okaay. Well, hand me your schedule."
Stefan handed her his schedule, Nikolina, taking it from his hand, their hands brushing.
As soon as their hands brushed together, both of them felt a spark.
Stefan looked at her, Nikolina looked at him, both of them speechless.
'What is going on? Feeling a spark with Stefan? What the hell is happening? No, no, no, no.' she thinks to herself.
"I umm... Okay, let's see. You have history with Tanner first, we can go together, I have it too, just be warned, Mr. Tanner is a dick." she said to Stefan. Stefan laughed at this "Really?" he asked her.
"Yeah, really. Wait, why am I telling you that. You'll see for yourself." she replied.
"Then next, you have math, again with me, art, with me, science, with me, English, French..." she mumbled to herself.
Stefan, being a vampire, heard all of this and laughed in his head at that.
"Alright, Stefan. You are in luck. You have all of your classes with me, for the whole week. That is fantastic!" she exclaimed.
As we neared the boys restroom, with the girls restroom on the other side of the hall, Nikolina stopped her walk and turned to look at Stefan "I just gotta go to the restroom real quick, wait for me?" she asked him. Stefan nodded his head, answering with an affirmative "Sure." smiling at her.
When Nikolina finished washing her hands, she dried them up and got out of the restroom, she saw red in the face Elena walking away from Stefan, obviously embarrassed about stuttering im front of the hot new guy.
She saw Stefan walking away from the restroom, turning right to the hall that leads to Tanner's classroom, and watching Elena walk away.
Nikolina walked over to him, laughing all the way. "Soo, you met my sister, Elena?" she asked, teasingly.
Stefan looked at his friend "How do you know?" he asked, his eyebrows furrowed.
"I saw her blushing as she walked away from you." she smiled, biting her lower lip.
Stefan smiled as they walked through the door of the classroom.
Nikolina took a seat behind Elena's, Stefan taking the seat on her right. She smiled at him as her friends and sister walked in and sat at their respective seats.
"Once our home state of Virginia joined confederacy in 1861, it created a tremendous amount of tension within the state. People in Virginia's northwest region had different ideals than those from the traditional deep south. Then Virginia divided in 1863 with the northwest region joining the union." droned on Mr. Tanner.
Nikolina was barely listening to what he says, she was sketching her father in her notebook, wanting to have some picture of him, to confirm that he is real, not just her brain playing tricks on her. In her peripheral vision she catches sight of Elena and Stefan exchange looks. 'UGH' she thinks to herself.
She feels her phone vibrating and takes it out of her pocket. She sees one new message and seeing that it was from Bonnie, she opens it. "HAWT-E. STARING @ ELENA" it says.
When the bell rings, signaling the end of the class, Nikolina gathers her things and walks out of the room. Stopping in the hall by the lockers, she waits for Elena and Bonnie to come out.
"Hey, I'm walking to the cemetery, do you want to come with me?" asks Elena.
"Not today. I'm going to go home, get some rest before the Grill." she tiredly replies, massaging her forehead.
"Oh, okay. I'll see you at home then." smiled Elena.
As soon as Nikolina threw open the door to her room, she threw the bag down on the floor, taking off her boots and her jacket and placing them on the floor and the chair respectively, she threw herself on the bed.
She closed her eyes, trying to ease the headache that began when she finished the sketch of her father, with no success.
She tried to relax, breathing deeply and somehow succeeding in falling asleep.
As she and Elena were walking down the stairs, they said to aunt Jenna who was in the kitchen. "We're meeting Bonnie at the grill."
"Okay, have fun. Wait, I got this. Don't stay out late, it's a school night." their aunt said to them.
"Well done, Aunt Jenna." laughed Elena.
"Very parental, aunt Jenna." replied Nikolina.
Nikolina went to open the door, Elena walking behind her, and as she did she saw Stefan on their porch.
"Oh." Elena and Nikolina said.
"Hey Stefan. Elly, I'll be waiting in the car." Nikolina said, smirking at her.
As soon as Stefan, Elena and I walked into the grill, all conversations stopped.
Matt Donovan, our friend since we were babies walked up to us, extending his hand for Stefan to shake "Hey, I'm Matt, nice to meet you."
Stefan took his offered hand, shaking it "Hi. Stefan." he introduced himself.
Matt turned to Elena "Hey." he said.
"Hey." she greeted back.
Nikolina walked up to Matt, throwing her arms around his waist "Hey, Matty Blue. Have you forgotten about me?" she joked in greeting.
Matt smiled at her, putting his arm on her waist, "Never" he replied, kissing her forehead.
"So, you were born in Mystic Falls?" asked Caroline as they were sitting sitting on their table, after they got their ordered drinks.
"Mm-Hmm. And moved when I was still young." replied Stefan.
"Parents?" asked Bonnie.
"My parents passed away."
"I'm sorry." Elena and Nikolina expressed their condolences.
"Any siblings?" asked Nikolina, already knowing the answer, or the true answer, but still asking out of politeness.
"None that I talk to. I live with my uncle." answered Stefan.
"So, Stefan, if you're new, then you don't know about the party tomorrow." said Caroline, putting her elbows on the table, obviously flirting with him.
'Poor Care' thought Nikolina, as she and Bonnie shared a horrified look.
"It's a back to school thing at the falls." explained Nikolina.
Stefan turned to look at Elena and Nikolina "Are you going?" he asked them.
"Of course they are." answered Bonnie.
Elena looks to Stefan shyly, while Nikolina just smirked at him.
"The Battle of Willow Creek took place right at the end of the war in our very own Mystic Falls. How many casualties resulted in this battle? Ms. Bennett?" asked Tanner.
"Um...a lot? I'm not sure. Like a whole lot."
"Cute becomes dumb in an instant, Ms. Bennett. Mr. Donovan? Would you like to take this opportunity to overcome your embedded jock stereotype?"
"It's okay, Mr. Tanner, I'm cool with it." said Matt casually, leaning in he is chair.
"Hmm. Elena? Surely you can enlighten us about one of the town's most significantly historical events?" Mr. Tanner asked her sister.
"I'm sorry, I--I don't know."
"I was willing to be lenient last year for obvious reasons, Elena. But the personal excuses ended with summer break."
At that moment, Nikolina got so mad, that she broke the pen she was holding. Seething on the inside, she almost got out of the seat to hit Tanner when Stefan answered his question.
"There were 346 casualties. Unless you're counting local civilians."
Tanner looked at Stefan "That's correct. Mister...?"
"Salvatore."
"Salvatore. Any relation to the original settlers here at Mystic Falls?"
"Distant." he replied.
Nikolina snorted silently. 'Distant, my ass. He is the "original settler".' she thought.
"Well, very good. Except, of course, there were no civilian casualties in this battle."
"Actually, there were 27, sir. Confederate soldiers, they fired on the church, believing it to be housing weapons. They were wrong. It was a night of great loss. The founder's archives are, uh, stored in civil hall if you'd like to brush up on your facts, Mr. Tanner." Stefan said to Tanner, burning him with that sentence.
"Hmm." hummed Tanner.
Now at the bonfire party, Bonnie and I were trying to get Elena to confess that Stefan is sexy while drinking our beer.
"Just admit it, Elena." said Bonnie.
"Oh, okay, so he's a little pretty." admitted Elena.
"A little pretty? Come on, Elly, he has that romance novel stare!" Nikolina exclaimed.
"So where is he?" Bonnie asked looking around.
"I don't know. You tell me, you're the psychic one." said Elena.
"Right, I forgot. Okay, so give me a sec. Grams says I have to concentrate." replied Bonnie.
"Wait, you need a crystal ball." Nikolina said.
Elena took an empty beer bottle from the ground "Aha!" she exclaimed happily, handing it to Bonnie.
Bonnie takes it and touches Elena's hand. She spaces out for a while, coming back to her senses, she gasps, and abruptly pulls her hand back.
"What?" asked Elena.
"That was weird. When I touched you, I saw a crow." said Bonnie.
"What?" asked Elena freaked out.
"A crow. There was fog, a man. I'm drunk. It's the drinking. There's nothing psychic about it. Yeah? Ok, I'm gonna get a refill." Bonnie said, walking away from them.
"Okay? Bonnie!" called out Nikolina, turning around in sync with Elena and seeing Stefan.
"Hi." greeted Stefan.
"Hi." Elena greeted back.
"Hey Stefan."
"I did it again, didn't it?" he asked Elena.
"Yeah."
"I'm sorry. You're upset about something." noticed Stefan.
"Oh, uh, no, it's- it's just Bonnie. She's...You know what? Never mind. You're...here." replied Elena, smiling at him.
"I'm here." he smiled back at her.
"And I'm going. Bye, bye." announced Nikolina, walking away, the couple not paying attention to her.
Walking through the woods, Nikolina noticed a silhouette of a man standing behind the tree.
She leaned on the tree, letting out a sigh.
"I know you're there. Come on out." she said.
The man's figure came into the light and she saw the one and only, Damon Salvatore.
Damon studied the girl's features carefully, recognizing the girl as Elena's sister.
He walked closer to her, planning to snack on her, when the eyes that had been previously closed, snapped open.
Her eyes were a beautiful shade of blue and green, the color of the ocean, with yellow flecks in them, looking scarily similar to golden flecks, only visible to the inhuman eyes.
Her hair beautiful golden blonde, looking so soft and silky, almost wishing he could run his fingers through it.
He looks her in the eyes wanting to compel her to get out of the dark woods "You are going to get out of these woods and go find your friends, you will forget seeing me here. You went into the woods for a walk." he said to her, wanting to protect her from himself, then sped away.
Nikolina blinked and looked around. She knows that Damon was here. 'Oh my God, the didn't work. The question is why? Is it because Klaus is an original and I as his daughter too can't be compelled?' is what she thinks as she walks to find her friends.
Nikolina, Bonnie and Elena were talking when the ambulance went with Matt and Vicki. Vicki was attacked when Nikolina got out of the woods and Jeremy had found Vicki bleeding out on the forest ground.
"Hey. We're gonna go to Mainline Coffee, wait for news." said Bonnie.
"I gotta take Jeremy home." replied Elena.
"I'll be coming with you, guys." Nikolina said.
"Nikky, Elena, there's no way I'm psychic. I know that. But whatever I saw, or I think I saw, I have this feeling..."
"Bonnie, what?" asked Elena and Nikolina unanimously.
"That it's just the beginning." Bonnie said ominously.
"Are you sober yet?" asked Bonnie while we waited for Care to sober up.
"No." she replied.
"Keep drinking. I gotta get you home. I gotta get Nikky and I home."
"Why didn't he go for me? You know, how come the guys that I want never want me?" whined Caroline.
"I'm not touching that." Bonnie said at the same time Nikolina said "Care."
"I'm inappropriate. I always say the wrong thing. And...Elena always says the right thing. She doesn't even try! And he just picks her. And she's always the one that everyone picks, for everything. And I try so hard, and...I'm never the one." said Caroline, listing her reasons her reasons.
"Nah, that's not true." said Nikolina as Caroline turned her head to look at her, she continued "Trust me Care, one day you are going to find a man that treats you like a queen. You'll know when you find him and don't blow him off, he will be all that you, Caroline Forbes, want in a man. Not a teenage boy."
Caroline smiled "Really?" Nikolina nodded her head in affirmative.
"It's not a competition, Caroline." said Bonnie.
"Yeah, it is."
Now at home, Nikolina grabbed a bite to eat and walked up to her room. She took her clothes off, walking to the bathroom and went for a shower.
Getting out of the bathroom in her pajamas that consists of baby pink shorts and white shirt, she walked to her book case, searching for a specific notebook.
Finding it, she picked it up and opened it, spotting the blank page, she picked up her pen from the bedside table and started her writing. 'Dear diary,'
'love, Nikolina.' she finished and closed the notebook, putting it on the floor. She turned off the lights, moving the sheets over her body, she closed her eyes, falling asleep.
and done! chapter two or three, depends if you count the prologue as chapter one, is episode two, season one. I hope you liked it :)
