The Secrets She Keeps
Chapter 3
Before Elena knew it, she had crossed the border to Mystic Falls as she took it all in. She really couldn't believe that she was here. What the hell was she thinking? She didn't know where the hell she was or what the hell she was doing here. This was crazy. She was crazy. How did she know that this would even work? What if she had spent all this time getting here only to be shunned by Katherine herself? That couldn't happen. She had no clue how she would survive it.
Her stomach growled symbolizing her hunger as she rolled her eyes and pulled into a nearby diner called the Mystic Falls Grill. Turning off her engine, Elena stepped out of the car and walked into the grill wanting nothing more than to relax and eat something before she changed her life for good. She just hoped that this would all be worth it.
"Katherine." A voice said from behind her as a guy with black hair and blue eyes gazed at her.
"Ugh, no, sorry. I'm Elena. I'm just in town to visit."
"Sorry, you just look a lot like my ex-girlfriend."
"It's no problem really."
"Do you know Katherine? You guys look so much alike that the resemblance is uncanny."
"In a way. I'm actually her sister."
"I didn't think Katherine had a sister. She's never really mentioned you before."
"To be fair, she doesn't actually know I exist."
"Wait. How can you two be sisters and she doesn't know you exist. It seems a little shady if you ask me."
"Well no one asked you. I'm just here to meet my sister. That's it. I have no ulterior motive than that."
"So, you just came here to uproot her life. Did you at least call first?"
"How am I supposed to come in contact with someone I don't know?"
"Social media always works."
"You know what, I don't know why I'm bothering talking to you in the first place. I need to go talk to her. If you don't like that then you can politely and sincerely fuck off. Have a nice day."
"Look. I'm sorry for being an ass. I guess I'm just protective of her that's all. I mean yeah, we might have broken up, but that doesn't mean I still don't care. You know?" he stated seeming sorry for what he had said to her earlier.
"Yeah I get it. I'm sorry I was harsh with you also. Nerves get the best of me at times and it's something I'm working on."
"I guess we both need to work a few things out."
"You think we can start over?"
"Sure. Hi, my name is Elena Gilbert."
"Damon Salvatore." He said extending his hand as she grabbed it shaking it. She could see why Katherine had liked him. He was cute in a strangely annoying way.
"So, can you tell me anything about Katherine before I meet her?"
"Just be cautious. Katherine is fragile and I'm not sure how she'll take this."
"I don't think it's something you can really prepare for."
"You're right. I just don't know what to say to her to make this situation any better."
"I would just go with the flow."
"I guess I better get it over with. After all there is no better time than the present."
"Despite how I acted earlier I do wish you the best with meeting Katherine. No matter how much I love her, she can be a bit much sometimes."
"I'll keep that in mind. Thank you, Damon."
"Good luck Elena. Hope to see you around."
"You too." Elena said exiting the restaurant to do one of the most changing things she'll ever do in her life.
Elena inhaled and exhaled as she looked at the numbers on the apartment door as she double checked the address to make sure she had gotten it right. The numbers were still there and correct as she stuffed the address in her pocket and lifted her hand to knock on the door. She knew if she didn't do it now she would never be able to. So, gathering up all her courage she knocked on the door and waited to see who would be on the other end.
The door flew open to reveal a girl who looked just like her making her feel as stunned as the girl looking back at her must have felt.
"Hi. I know you may not know me, but I'm Elena Gilbert and I-I think you're my sister."
