Dinner With The Bakugous'
Yuna was standing on Katsuki's doorstep, joined by her mother, Mia, who in turn brought along flowers and wine as little gifts. It was the first time both of their parents were actually meeting each other outside of school, and she was feeling pretty nervous, admittedly. Even though her mother had accepted Katsuki as her boyfriend, it hadn't exactly been the smoothest of transitions with them constantly getting into trouble growing up. She just hoped tonight wouldn't run askew.
"Welcome, Welcome!" The door opened to reveal Mitsuki, grinning ear-to-ear as she raked her eyes over them. Yuna presented her with the flowers, her mother with the wine. She grabbed both and smiled even wider. "It's so nice to finally see you two again! It's been way too long. Please, come in!"
Masaru was just beside her, smiling as gently as always. They stepped inside, and Mia immediately began shaking hands with them and diving into chit-chat. Yuna spotted Katsuki reclining against the wall with his hands buried in his pockets. She smiled and made her way over.
"Hey, Katsuki. How are you-"
He caught her in a bear hug before she could say much else. She half-squealed, smothered by the muscles of his taut forearms. Katsuki chuckled and hurriedly pecked her forehead.
"Hey," he smirked. "You look cute today."
Yuna flushed. "T-Thank you..."
Since she interpreted it to be a somewhat festive occasion, she threw on a soft, cream-colored dress that hugged her curves but still flowed around her in breathable ribbons. She styled her hair a bit differently than usual, too, though she hadn't expected him to actually notice. He always seemed to take note of these things, no matter how small or insignificant.
"Yes, yes, the two of us were absolutely baffled at the start!" Yuna could hear Mitsuki babbling. "Well, of course we already knew that Katsuki had a crush on her, but we certainly weren't expecting it to go anywhere. Truth be told, when he brought her over to study with a friend, I was convinced he'd paid her off to pretend to be his girlfriend..."
"The fuck did you just say?!"
"Quiet, you snot-nosed little shit!" Mitsuki sighed, ignoring the wary looks Mia was giving her. "See? He's so rough around the edges. Thank goodness for Yuna to look past all his flaws and bad habits, and give him a chance, that angel. If only I'd been blessed with a daughter instead..."
Katsuki gritted his teeth, every fiber of his being likely on the verge of exploding. She probably should've known better than to expect a quiet evening.
"N-Now, Now," Masaru chimed in, always the voice of reason. "We can talk at the dinner table, Mitsuki. We wouldn't want the food to get cold. Is it alright if we open the bottle of wine you brought us...?"
"Oh, of course," Mia smiled. "By all means."
"Thank you."
He waved for his wife to follow him into the dining room. Her mother trailed closely behind, with her and Katsuki lagging near the back. Yuna brushed her hand by his and offered a consoling smile.
"Don't worry, Katsuki. Just be yourself. My mom already knows the kind of person you are, so there's nothing to stress over."
"Yeah, sure," he grumbled. "Be myself. My mom loves it when I do that."
"It'll be fine, seriously. Just relax."
Katsuki shrugged, grabbing a seat at the table and saving her the spot beside him. Yuna didn't even need to glance down to the plates to know what they were having. The thick scent of spice was playing at her nostrils, already making her salivate.
"Fuck yeah," Katsuki grinned. "Curry's on the menu tonight."
"Hey!" Mitsuki hissed, narrowing her crimson irises into slits. "Watch your language, asshole! We have guests over, for crying out loud!"
"M-Mitsuki," the husband tried, "that goes for you, as well..."
"The hell did I say wrong?!"
"Your language... ugh. Never mind." Masaru hung his head in defeat. "Let's just eat..."
Yuna glanced across the table, only to see that her mother was cracking up in her seat, just shy of breaking out into a fit of laughter. Her family was a bit of an unconventional family, yes, but she hoped her mother would be able to understand just how dear these people were to her.
"Oh, delicious." Her mother wiped away at her lip, having just taken her first bite. She smiled in Mitsuki's direction. "This curry is amazing. I'll have to steal your recipe sometime."
"Do you like it?" Mitsuki grinned. "My asshole son-"
"Mitsuki."
"My stupid son really likes spicy food, so I've made a lot of curry in my day. I've gotten so used to eating it at his preferred blend that it's a little difficult to gauge how spicy to make it when we have guests over, though. It's not too hot, is it?"
"No, No," her mother smiled. "It's lovely, thank you."
"It's really good!" Yuna beamed.
"Tastes pretty fucking good, not gonna lie."
"Language, shithead!"
If she didn't know any better, Yuna would've thought this scene was just shy of a food fight. Well, her mother was around, so there was no way that-
Oh. Never mind. Katsuki had just flicked a spoonful all over his mother's shirt.
Yeah, he's dead.
"KATSUKI, YOU ILL-MANNERED PIECE OF SHIT SON...!"
Too many things were happening at the table right now, and so, she hastily stood up and belted for the bathroom. Yuna could hear the cacophony of Katsuki and Mitsuki's clashing cries, though it seemed that her mother's laughter was mixed in as well, so at least she was enjoying herself.
Once she'd freshened up and returned, Katsuki was back in his spot, picking silently at his half-eaten curry. His cheeks were flushed and swollen. Mitsuki had probably pinched them so hard they'd nearly torn off.
"I swear," his mother huffed, "he's always doing things like this. Embarrassing us when we've got guests over."
If she had the guts, Yuna might've pointed out how she was technically the one who'd riled him up to begin with, but her good sense prevented her from doing so. Katsuki and Mitsuki were each a flushed, grumbling mess, but her mother was laughing so hard she was probably about to split a rib.
"S-Sorry," Mia chortled, wiping away at misty blue eyes. "I don't mean to be rude, it's just... your family's so lively. It's certainly not something you see every day."
Mitsuki twisted her lips into a pout. "Look, Katsuki. You've gone and made a fool out of our family. Shame on you."
"I didn't even-!"
He squeezed his palms together, inhaling a sharp growl.
"Never mind," he hissed. "I'm not saying shit anymore."
"If only you'd done that to begin with."
Katsuki gave his mother the death glare. Her mother broke out into another fit of laughter. Yuna and Masaru just stared back at each other with that helpless, 'what-to-do' look.
Just another day with the Bakugous', she supposed.
"Thank God we live in the dorms now," Katsuki muttered, stealing a glance in her direction. "Now do you realize what I had to put up with every damn day?"
"Ha-ha. They're cute, though. It's how they express their love, I'm sure."
"Yeah, well, their love is fucking weird."
He resumed spearing the chunks of meat in his curry with pronounced vigor. Yuna looked down at her plate, then at the families sitting before her, then back to Katsuki.
A smile rose to her lips.
"The hell are you grinning at me for?" Katsuki frowned. "Creep."
"Mhm."
"Seriously, what's so fucking amusing. Tell me."
"Mhm."
"Oi. I'll tickle you till you barf, goddammit."
Yuna didn't respond, and her eyes drifted back across the table.
"Mitsuki," Yuna straightened up, "Masaru. Can I say something real quick?"
"Hm? Of course, sweetie. What is it?"
Yuna gripped the edge of her chair. "I'm just super happy right now. I'm the happiest I've ever been in my entire life, and I can't thank you enough for supporting my relationship with Katsuki up until now. I know this might sound super cheesy and unnecessary, but... I just needed to say it. So thank you, again. For allowing me to be a part of his life."
The two stared back at her, mouths agape, stunned to silence. Mia bore similar expressions, unblinking, unmoving. Even Katsuki was at a loss for words.
"Oh, goodness," Mitsuki breathed, her chest rising and falling with it. "That's so... we should be the ones thanking you, Yuna. Katsuki's never been better than he is right now. I've never seen him smile as much as he does around you. As a parent... that kind of thing leaves a lasting impression. So thank you," she smiled, "for making him so happy."
Yuna shuffled further up against the back of her seat, wary of the blush rising to her warm temples. Katsuki was just as red beside her.
"Yuna's never been good at speaking her mind," her mother began, the creases by her eyes softening. "For her to go out of her way to say this must mean it's genuine. I'm sure she treasures your son very much."
"It's the same for Katsuki as well," Masaru smiled.
Yuna felt Katsuki's fingers work their way underneath the table to give her a gentle squeeze. He was still staring down at his food, not looking in her direction, but the warmth of his touch was more than enough.
''So, where's your husband at, Mrs. Hiramatsu? What do you do for a living?'' Masaru suddenly asked, trying to start up a conversation.
Yuna stiffen and looked at her mother, who looked despondent but had a soft smile, yet sad eyes.
She huffed and whipped her head to Katsuki and hissed, ''Katsuki, I thought your parents knew about my father.''
''Huh? No, I haven't told them. They never asked and I felt it wasn't my place to tell them, so I didn't. I figured one of you would say something eventually.''
Yuna sighed in her hands. What the hell was he thinking? He didn't think to consider my mother's feelings about being asked that?
''Well, my husband passed away before Yuna was born.'' Mia's smile sadly.
''Oh, dear. I'm so sorry, I had no idea.'' Masaru apologized.
''Now look what you've done, Masaru! You've gone and depressed our fucking guest! How could you ask such a personal question?'' Mitsuki scolded her husband with angry red eyes.
''I-I'm sorry, Mitsuki. I was just trying to make small talk.'' He held his hands up in defense.
''Idiot! You don't go around asking something like that to start a fucking conversation! If she wanted to tell us, she'd of told us, asshole! Now look, she's sad now thanks to you prying in her personal life! I can't believe you gone and done something so careless, and make a fool of us! Now I see where Katsuki gets it from, his dumb-ass father!'' Mitsuki looked at Mia apologetically, while she looked completely stunned from the outburst at her husband. ''I'm so sorry about my shitty husband's inconsideration of your feelings and prying into your personal life. I'm also sorry to hear about your husband's passing.''
''Oh, n-no, it's fine! I've come to terms of my husband's death years ago. It's just sometimes the memories of him get to me, but I'm completely fine.'' Mia smiled in assurance, ''As for your question, Masaru, I work at the hospital healing patients or making them comfortable as they pass on, and occasionally I help with major surgeries. With my healing quirk, I'm a pretty valuable asset in the ER and infirmary rooms, so I'm always so busy working at the hospital. Leaving poor Yuna home alone a lot, but when she was too little she would stay with my mother. My husband was a hero, and he died an honorable death. Back when I was pregnant with Yuna, we were attacked by a gang of villains in a store and held hostage. My husband had given his life in order to save us all and help me escape. There's not a day that goes by when I don't think of him. I miss him terribly, but I'm not sad about his death anymore. I just wish he'd gotten to see Yuna when she was born, he was so excited about becoming a father. Yuna may have taken after my looks, but she's so much like her father in spirit.''
''Oh, goodness, that's so tragic but so sweet. I do actually recall hearing about that on the news not too long before Katsuki was born, too. Your husband was a good man. Saving the hostages and you and Yuna in the process, definitely hero worthy.'' Mitsuki smiled.
''Yeah, he sounds like a good man and a great hero.'' Masaru said with a smile.
''Thank you, he was a good man. He loved being a hero more than anything. He loved helping people in need. He was a very compassionate person.'' Mia beamed.
Their parents had shifted the topic of conversation now, much to her relief. She could tell her mother was getting glum talking about her father, hell she was too. She really wished she gotten the chance to meet her father, too. Yuna felt Katsuki's grip on her tighten. She could feel the warmth of his touch tremble against her skin. She looked over as he leaned closer.
Katsuki's lips melted against her own. Yuna's cheeks reddened and erupted into waves of heat. She leaned into him, fingers instinctively finding his underneath the table. Yuna would've lost herself in his embrace right then and there, if not for the fact that they were, regretfully, not alone.
"Jeez!" Mitsuki guffawed. "Save that for after dessert, kiddos!"
"M-Mitsuki, you're embarrassing them..."
"Ohh, look! Yuna's so red!" Mia teased.
"Shouldn't these things be done in private? We're trying to eat here. Have some class, Bakugou-"
"FUCK OFF, ALL OF YOU!"
Having finally snapped, Katsuki pressed her up against his chest and glared daggers at his assailants. In spite of the flush creeping up her neck, Yuna managed a soft laugh.
"She's my damn girlfriend, and I can kiss her whenever the hell I want!"
