[Setting] Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes Shop
Harry and Ron snuck into Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes with guilty looks on their faces. They glanced around but Fred and George weren't anywhere to be seen.
"You think this will work? Charlie says it will, and I don't doubt him – he's usually right – but still…" Ron whispered under his breath to Harry.
"It should. Charlie said it will, and I trust him. He's brilliant!" Harry replied solemnly.
The two boys were in the twins' shop for a very special mission: to find out what the twins were planning for their Auror Academy graduation party. The twins were being really secretive about it, too; this only increased the boys' curiosity.
Hermione had suggested they simply wait for the surprise at their graduation party. The boys were both horrified. Was Hermione crazy? The twins were planning the party, after all. What if they tried to prank them?
They'd gone to Charlie who had procured some Veritaserum to use on the twins. He'd told them they needed to be quick and stealthy. The twins were not amateurs, though. They wouldn't eat or drink anything without verifying its origins. The boys claimed it wouldn't be a problem.
When Ron spotted one of the twins in an aisle, he yelled out, "Hey, you!"
The twin turned and rolled his eyes when he saw Ron. It was Fred.
"What do you want, Ron? Is it Mum? Tell her I'm not interested in dating anyone she chooses. I have my eye on Granger, and she's it for me," Fred grumbled, turning back to shelf the products.
"No, no! It's not Molly. She got this box of doughnuts from that Muggle shop you like. But she refuses to let us eat before we offer one to all her children," Harry piped up. They'd practiced for this. Ron couldn't offer the sweets to his brothers; they would be very suspicious. Harry was the innocent one, everyone assumed. He could be trusted.
Fred was suspicious; something was very fishy here. Finally, he agreed. But before the two boys could get secretly excited over this bit of success, Fred added, "—only if Ron here eats one first."
Ron managed not to pale. He shrugged and said, "Sure, it's not like it's poisoned. I'm hungry, anyways."
He grabbed a doughnut he knew wasn't infused with Veritaserum and was about to take a bite.
Fred stopped him quickly by pointing to another. "No. Eat this one." Thankfully, Ron knew it wasn't imbued with the truth serum either. Ron shrugged, picked it up and shoved it into his mouth. Fred watched, waiting for something to happen. But when nothing occurred, he nodded and started choosing one of the doughnuts.
The boys had asked Charlie where the doughnuts should be placed so that the twins would choose them. As the twins' older brother, Charlie had mastered the art of getting them to do what he wanted. In an experienced tone, he advised them to place the doughnuts around the middle ones. The twins never went for the middle ones. They always tried to choose the ones around. Therefore, the younger boys had followed the insightful advice of the master.
Fred picked up a chocolate glazed donut with rainbow sprinkles, inspected it by sniffing and poking it carefully. He pulled out his wand and cast a spell that would reveal malicious intent, if there was one. When nothing happened, he took a large bite. He beamed at Ron and Harry and exclaimed, "This one's my favourite. Thanks, guys! You want me to give one to George too?"
Just then, Charlie came barging through the door of the shop. He caught sight of them and rushed over to them. "You idiots left this at home," he panted out as he handed Harry the vial of Veritaserum.
Fred's eyes widened when he heard Charlie.
"Et tu, Brute?" Fred asked, pretending to faint. Charlie simply rolled his eyes at his brother, knowing his flair for dramatics.
"Wait.. if this is the Veritaserum, then what did we just give Fred?" Ron asked Harry.
Harry slowly pulled out an empty vial from his bag and squinted at the scribbled words on the vial: Felix Felicis. Oh, Merlin! He'd just given Fred a potion to make him lucky!
Fred smirked when Harry paled and revealed the name of the potion to his accomplices.
"Liquid Luck, huh? Nice! Thanks, boys! I'm going to try my luck with a certain brunette. Merlin knows she's been brushing me off for ages! Maybe now she'll finally agree to go out with — oh, and how my luck changes! There she is, the love of my life!" Harry, Ron and Charlie all turned and saw Hermione walking into the shop, her hair covered with a Gryffindor beanie and her nose pink due to the cold air outside.
"Hey, Granger. I lost my scarf, can I wrap you around me instead?" Fred drawled, strolling over to Hermione with a devious smirk on his face.
To everyone's disbelief, Hermione blushed and giggled softly. "That was terrible, Fred," she murmured, her face half-hidden under her muffler.
Fred beamed down at her, "It made you laugh. That's enough for me." Hermione swooned at how charming he was.
She murmured bashfully, "Would you – would you like to go for a coffee? I know this place nearby, right outside Diagon Alley and —"
Fred interrupted her, "Gorgeous, I'll follow you anywhere you take me. But first, your hand looks cold. Let me warm it up for you."
Hermione's cheeks reddened but she shyly slid her fingers through his. Fred's smile was brighter than fair sunshine after winter's storms. He happily tugged Hermione closer and walked out of the shop. Harry and Ron stood stupefied, the box of doughnuts still in their hands.
Please read and review. It means a lot to the writers. Thanks! :)
