Chapter 3: Infiltration Shinra

The Turks and Zack arrived at Shinra Headquarters and easily slipped past the guards. Jessie looked more excited than nervous. Zack had a feeling this was the beginning of something much worse. A sudden growl made them stop. They all looked to the shadows. Before anyone could do anything, a large white wolf like beast sprang out of the bushes and jumped on Tseng. Before the Turk could try to get it off, it dug it's claws into his shoulder.

Tseng let out a muffled cry of agony. Zack unsheathed his sword and sliced at the wolf thing. It let out an audible whine and ran away, blood trailing behind it. Zack sheathed his sword and helped Tseng to his feet. Cissnei rushed forward and flinched as she saw deep wounds carved into Tseng's shoulder and back. Zack cringed and looked in the other direction. He had seen wounds like this before but it was always hard for him to see his companion in pain.

Zack looked to the shadows and saw the beast watching them. It's eyes fell on Zack and it backed away into the shadows, whining as it did so. Zack was confused by it's reaction to seeing him. The wolf thing limped back inside Shinra Headquarters and left them alone. Zack felt a strange connection to the wolf creature. He didn't understand why. Zack looked back at Tseng and saw him holding onto his shoulder.

"That creature really did me a good one. Leave me behind, I'll be okay," Tseng said.

"We aren't leaving you here!" Zack said firmly. "Would anyone mind taking him back to the church?"

"I will," Cissnei said. "I want to give Jessie some time to shine. "Zack, take care of her, okay?"

Zack watched Cissnei and turned back to the remaining people. They nodded to each other and began the dangerous trek into the Shinra building. Zack and the others snuck past the receptionist and entered Director Lazard's former office. That brought memories back to Zack. They didn't want to risk getting caught, so they didn't turn on the lights. Zack had a feeling that Lazard wouldn't have had a bomb in his office but it was worth checking out.

As Zack expected, they didn't find a bomb. Zack let Reno take the lead as they walked down a corridor. Zack had almost completely forgotten that the Turks should know all of the nooks and crannies of the Shinra Headquarters. They heard a growl and turned around. The wolf creature was back, this time with a even more vicious look in it's eyes. It almost seemed to glow in the dark, because of its pure white fur and white eyes that gave it a blank stare.

He watched in horror as the wolf limped out of the shadows. It's white eyes narrowed and it leaped at Zack, biting deep into Zack's arm. Zack cried out in agony and tried to shake it off. The wolf creature dug it's claws into Zack's arm and it bit at Zack's face. Zack saw Jessie shoot it out of the corner of its eye. It's whine echoed down the hall and it ran away, leaving a trail of crimson blood. Zack groaned and tried to stand.

He wouldn't let some stupid wounds slow him down. "Zack, what are you doing, sit down!" Jessie said, a note of panic in her voice.

"Don't worry, I'll be fine. I just need to take a little -" Zack began, but he was cut off as darkness swerved in front of his vision and he collapsed with a dull thud.

(3 Hours Later)

Zack slowly opened his eyes and looked around. He was back at the church with Cissnei looking over him. Zack tried to sit up but he felt his muscles strain at the pressure. Zack then remembered that they were at Shinra Headquarters. Had they managed to get the bomb? Or had they failed?

"Well, we got the bomb," Cissnei said with a smile. Zack sighed with relief. "You passed out and Reno took you back here."

Zack looked to Reno who was talking quietly to Aerith. Pain shot through Zack's shoulder, causing him to cry out. Cissnei looked alarmed and laid Zack down. Zack felt the soft feeling of pillows under him. He saw that he was on one of the standing benches in the church.

(Meanwhile at Shinra Headquarters)

"So, Angeal failed at his job?" Shinra asked, his eyes narrowing.

"Yes," Heidegger replied. They heard claws and looked down. Angeal looked to them, his eyes screaming shame. "What should I do with him, sir?"

"Throw him back in his cell. We offered him an opportunity to do something and he failed. He should learn his lesson by staying in there for weeks on end," Shinra said, kicking Angeal.

The wolf creature whimpered and rushed into his cell. Heidegger locked it quickly and kicked it. Angeal snarled and shook his cell, his claws and eyes flashing in the darkness. Shinra glared at him and glanced at Heidegger, his gaze told him to go. Heidegger nodded and left the room. Shinra exited his chair and walked up to Angeal's cell. The wolf growled and clawed at Shinra's hand.

"Don't worry, Angeal. You'll have your time to shine again," Shinra said. "It'll be really soon."
