"Sugar, Justin?" Lisa asked.
"One cup, please," he replied. Lisa smiled, tipping the desired sweetner into his tea. "So, as I was saying, it completely undermines the point. If you have a servant, you want them to be seen but unheard. It's a simple matter to demonstrate status."
"But you don't need to," Ernie said. "You can summon a house elf like that." He snapped his fingers.
Lisa sat down again after passing the boys the delicate china, each of the three of them sipping as Justin continued his commentary on the role of servants in the magical and muggle worlds. It was their weekly teatime meeting using the fancy crockery that Justin had brought from home to help discourage Ernie from his "ghastly" commoner behaviour. Once again Cormac had abandoned them to head to the Quidditch pitch.
Justin had no idea how he still hadn't secured a spot on the Gryffindor team considering how much time he spent there. He always came back sweaty and sticky, clearly having exerted himself.
"As if you have ever had a servant," a platinum haired boy drawled from beside them, pulling back Justin's mind to the topic at hand. The three of them glanced up to see Draco Malfoy and his entourage of Greg, Vinnie and Pansy.
"Well, my family does. However, I feel no need to prove it to you, so if you would leave us to finish our tea-" Justin said.
"Oh, sorry for interrupting your teatime," Draco said patronisingly, laughing a little. Greg and Vincent laughed too, smiled at Draco, then one another before abruptly getting lost in each other's eyes. Draco didn't notice. "So pathetic. You're such a pansy, Fletchley!"
"Hey!" Pansy said, not taking kindly to having her name used as an insult. Draco ignored her.
"I wouldn't expect you to recognise civil behaviour, Draco," Justin said.
"Don't talk to me like that you filthy mudblood," Draco said, strutting forward and swiping his arm across the table, sending the tea set crashing to the ground.
Ernie dived for the set, but he wasn't able to catch everything. They shattered on the ground, spilling tea leaves and shards of china all over the floor.
"That is it!" Justin said, rising to his feet. "You have crossed a line, scion of Malfoy. Those were family heirlooms that required respectful treatment. I demand satisfaction from you!"
"You want to duel, Fletchley?" Draco said, sneering as he began to pull out his wand.
"Duel? I thought, despite all else that you are, that you were at least of nobler heritage than a commoner, Draco. Resolving disputes through fighting," Justin said, frowning and shaking his head. He sounded disappointed in Draco.
That through Draco for a loop. He couldn't comprehend someone implying that he was poor. It was such a devastating insult, after all.
"I- Uh, well how do nobler houses resolve disputes?" Draco asked, desperately trying to recoup his lost pride.
Justin squinted at him, unsure if the boy was being serious. "That is obvious. It's been the same since the founding of society."
"Which is?" Draco asked, getting frustrated.
"A dance off, of course."
Draco looked shocked. "But, I, I-"
"Ah, you wish to forfeit," Justin said. "I suppose I expected as much-"
"No," Draco interrupted him. "I'll do it. I'll show you!"
"So be it! Lisa, would you mind tuning us into something a bit more upbeat?"
Lisa nodded, grabbed the wizarding wireless that they had fiddled with a bit so it could get ahold of muggle stations and tuned out of the classical music they had been relaxing to over tea.
Justin grabbed the front of his robes and janked them free from his body. Beneath, he was wearing a full body gleaming purple unitard. His father had trained him before, when he had still planned to go to Eton, to always be prepared to protect his family name, and he took that lesson to heart despite his change of schools.
When the opening bars of Tubthumping came through the radio, he was ready. He hit the ground, getting low, breakdancing, corkscrewing. But everytime he got down, he got back up again. He balanced on the balls of his feet, his body rolling upwards into a standing position again in an impressive display of core strength.
Draco watched him, the worry over Justin's skills making his mouth dry. He licked his lips as Pansy stood beside him, gaping at the muggleborn boy.
Justin moved quicker, moving to the corner of the room, dropping on his knees to glide across the floor, casting a Glisseo to smooth out the floor to pull off the powerslide. He nearly hit the corner walls, but instead pushed into them, turning his momentum into a backflip, landing perfectly.
His arms came up, his housemates cheering him, and he danced towards Draco, a small smile on his face. It wouldn't do to let on how much he was enjoying showing Draco up. He got within a foot of Draco, thrusting his pelvis in Draco's direction to the beat of the music, moving around him as Draco stood awkwardly, trying to avoid meeting Justin's eyes.
Justin wound down with the end of the song, backing away from Draco, his eyes flashing in perceived victory.
Draco gulped.
His turn.
The next song started. Lisa and Justin both blushed as they heard the start of Barbie Girl and realised what Draco would be dancing to.
Draco began to move, moving his arms awkwardly as he tried to get into the rhythm of the muggle pop song. Ernie grinned and cackled, but Justin only kept a small, polite smile on his face. The chorus began abruptly and Draco found himself having to move faster, his lack of experience making itself known as he almost tripped over himself as he tried to move his feet.
All of his focus was on trying to pull off some kind of dance move. His father would never hear the end of this.
Draco focused on the lyrics, on the beats that were pumping out of the wizarding wireless and the rest of the world fell away. He was solely focused on outdancing Justin.
His hips began to move, and that meant that his legs stopped getting in each other's way. He dipped his chest to one of the "ooo-ooo's", missing the gasp of surprise from Pansy. He span, his back to Justin and pushed himself back in rhythm to an "ah, ah, ah, yeah."
Justin found his eyes dropping to Draco's butt, and found that he couldn't look away. Draco's hips were mesmerising, moving in a way that he was envious of.
Draco was up on a table a moment later, oblivious to the crowd that had started to be drawn to the dance off, his attention now solely on Justin. He felt fantastic, though he didn't know what was plastic.
His hands came up to his hair as the rest of his body froze, and as the wireless blasted out "and touch me everywhere," he let his body writhe as he brought his hands down his slender frame.
Justin realised he was holding his breath, but couldn't convince his body to do otherwise.
Pansy was shrieking, cheering on Draco. Greg was chanting what little of the song he had picked up from previous choruses as Vinny grinded against him.
As the song came to an end, Draco leapt into the air after casting a featherweight charm on himself so that when the song climaxed, he found himself hanging in the air in his final pose.
When he reached the ground again, he found himself being gawked at by the two Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, the rest of the assembled crowd cheering and applauding. He felt redness on his cheeks from the exertion but he sneered nonetheless.
He realised, despite the odds being stacked against him, he had won.
"Draco," Justin breathed. "How did you- where did you learn to dance like that?"
"I take it you're satisfied, Fletchley," Draco said, sweeping a hand through his blond hair to find it still perfectly groomed. Not a hair out of place.
Justin blushed, only able to nod in response.
Draco strutted off, smirking at having shown up the idiot. He had rather enjoyed himself.
He wondered whether he might dance again someday. Perhaps even sing as well. Performing like that was certainly enjoyable, but he wouldn't want the Malfoy name associated with muggle pop music. He'd have to go under a pseudonym.
He thought for a few seconds, and after struggling to come up with anything better than Dragon, decided that that would have to do for now.
