I don't own Harry Potter. Some of the characters are directly taken from J.K.Rowling's books and others are my own imagination.
It was almost three in the midnight. The Gryffindor common room was empty, except for a 16 year old red-headed witch who sat on a sofa near the fireplace, staring intently at the fire. The brightness of the dazzling fire was too much for a normal pair of eyes to stare for so long, but it didn't affect her. 'Cause she was lost in her own world.
Lily Evans was always confident about the decisions she made. Weather it was as simple as choosing what she would have for breakfast or as complicated as choosing the field of work she was going to take for the rest of her life, she was always confident. But not this time. She sighed as she replayed the events that took place this year.
Flashback….
It was the beginning of their Sixth year at Hogwarts. After the opening feast in the great hall, she along with her friends was headed towards the Gryffindor Tower. Suddenly someone tapped on her shoulder. As she turned around to look at her intruder she came face to face with none other than her arch nemesis, Marauder extra-ordinary, the boy who had constantly humiliated her by asking her out in public ever since third year, James Potter.
"Lily, may I talk to you for a minute?" he asked her. "No, you may not" she replied curtly, as she always did to him. But something was different this time. There was no usual air of confidence (or "arrogance" which she liked to call it) around him. He looked nervous and something like hurt flashed in his eyes. She was expecting further pestering from him but he only nodded grimly and went back to his friends. Now she was confused. Because this was so unlikely of Potter to leave so easily and what confused her further more was the sadness she felt because he left so easily.
When she turned to her friends, they were all looking towards her with an odd expression. "What?" she asked. "Lily, he called you lily!" Alice said. "So what that's my na-" she was about to say but suddenly understood what her friend meant. Even though Potter claimed to genuine feelings for her, he never called her by her first name. It was always 'Evans' or any other silly nickname he randomly gave her. "I think you should at least listen to what he has to say" Mary said. Lily sighed knowing very well that her friends were never going to let her go otherwise. Half-heartedly she made her way towards the gang who liked to call themselves 'Marauders' (and they were true to their name).
"Potter" she called over his shoulder. He whipped his head around to see the red-headed beauty standing behind him. His eyes went wide. "Evans?" he spluttered nervously. "What did you wanted to talk about? ….you know, earlier" she asked. He looked at his friends who nodded encouraging at him. Then he turned around and nodded her to follow her. She rolled her eyes but followed him nonetheless. Once he was sure they were out of everyone's hearing range he turned around to face her.
"Lily" he took a deep breath and looked directly into her emerald green eyes. She wanted to throw a mean comment at him by instinct or tell him to stop calling her 'Lily', but the sincerity in his eyes made her to stop. "Yes?" she said after a long pause. "I wanted to apologise to you". 'Oh! So he wanted to apologise to her' she thought, "Wait, what?" she heard herself saying loudly. He sighed again. "Look, I know that these past six years I have been nothing but a prat. And I completely understand, if you don't want anything to do with me. Yet, you are one of the kindest people I know. So, all I hope is that you will put past my previous actions towards you and forgive me and maybe someday we can be friends". He smiled at her grimly and began to walk away but as soon as she came out of her shock she called "James!" he turned around, total shock written on his face. "Yes?" he said. "I forgive you and I would also like to be friends with you" she said smiling at him. He was grinning like an idiot the whole time. "Thank you" he said finally. "Good night James", "Good night Lily" and they parted to their dormitories unable to wipe the smile off their faces.
