Had she known that she's letting a bunch of cultists free reign over the impressive forest of her family shrine, Kagome would've never allowed the camping trip said people had told her the day prior. The group was relatively normal looking, young university students asking for permission to stay the night under the guise of harmless outing between friends. Of course she said yes, it was not unusual for people to hike around the place after all, and she was more than happy to accommodate these people after a day full of fun and excitement.

This time however, her guests aren't exactly as interested in camping as they acted to be.

The air rippled with a foreign type of magic Kagome was unfamiliar with and she was quick to bolt out of bed and into the chilly night, clad in nothing but her sleepwear -which consists of a simple pair of pink pajamas- and her Azusan bow clutched in between tight fingers.

Mrs. Higurashi worriedly asked about the commotion when she saw her eldest grumbling as she stomped her way outside only to be answered with a lazy wave.

"Just gonna do a quick sweep around the shrine grounds…" she said as she snapped her shoes on. "I felt something weird and I'm going to check it out. Might place some wards around just to be sure."

With a stay safe and lock the door when you get back from her mother, Kagome walked towards where she could feel the pull of magic was coming from and willed her reiki to manifest over a finger, the white-pinkish orb lighting enough to prevent the priestess from tripping over roots and other hazardous things littering the forest floor.

The duration of her walk was full of irritated grumbling and hisses about the supernatural that simply refuses to leave her alone. Sure, she was a former time travelling miko who governs over a cursed bauble that brings more problems than it's worth but that part of her life is over now! All she wants is to laylow, finish highschool, get into a university, meet the guy of her dreams -who will be human and very much normal- ,have kids, and live the rest of her life in peace because Kami knows she's had enough conflict to last her a lifetime. And probably the next.

"What the hell-" she squinted and snuffed her reiki out, looking at the telltale signs of lit fire bathing the forest in warm orange hues. Normally, she'd automatically think that it was a bonfire created by the campers if not for the fact that there were multiple sources of it that were scattered around the foliage. Thoughts about wildfire and the trouble she'd get just cleaning it up was enough for Kagome to trudge closer, ready to knock some sense into these troublemakers and their attempts of arson. Her words died on her tongue the moment she got closer however, eyes drinking in the sight of people dressed in weird robes and the circle painted into the forest floor.

'I'm so going to charge them for that.'

There were six of them, all standing in a pattern she couldn't place, surrounding a platform made from a table covered in red cloth. The naked body of a young girl was laid on top of it and the calm, almost excited look on her face was the only thing preventing Kagome from rushing in and putting a stop into this weird, ritual looking thing she only sees in western movies.

"Hic congregentur ad nos specialis caerimonia…[1]" Another pulse of something otherworldly lanced through the air, making the fine hairs on the back of her neck standing up on end. "...multa rapina adflixit citati.[2]" She leaned against a tree, winded as her soul started reacting to the foreign words one of the people were chanting. She forced her spirit to settle, gearing up for a confrontation that might end up with her getting physical with these stupid humans. She knows her kind has an unhealthy obsession with the paranormal and she would've humored them and let them be if not for the obvious danger that comes with the apparently legit ritual. The air was starting to thicken with magic and as the full moon escaped from behind the clouds, the vibrating power crackling in the air multiplied.

"Shit." She cursed as she struggled to breathe. The pull on her soul was stronger now and she looked up just in time to see the chanting leader walk up to the platform with a dagger in hand.

'How more cliche can you even get?!'

"In nomine ingenti avaritia, placet accipere corpus humilitatis nostrae configuratum donum.[3]" She was out and running the moment the dagger was raised high up in the air, easily ducking through the rest of the deranged humans who were obviously caught off guard by the shrine maiden who's by all means, should be away and sleeping by now.

"Puritatem hanc vocationem nostram festum![4]"

"No you don't!" With a mighty swing, her Azusan bow whistled in the air and sent the dagger flying, the sacred wood pulsing in indignation at being treated like a baseball bat. A bit regretful of her actions, Kagome missed the extra dagger the man took out, yelping in pain as the blade slashed at the arm still outstretched from her attack. Her blood splattered all over the place and something thrummed and pulsated in the air.

"You bitch! You messed up our ritual!"

"Yeah, you're welcome, you idiots!" Kami that dagger hurts! She pressed her palm against the wound and held back the automatic instinct to heal the damage and instead, glared heatedly at the group of reckless, ignorant students.

The circle glowed eerily but no one noticed, already resigned that their ritual had been thwarted.

"Look, before I call the police, how about you just clean this mess up and get the fuck out of my property?!" As if some sort of bomb going off, the painted circle suddenly went ablazed with dark, unadulterated power, a supernova of potent aura that had Kagome screaming in surprise. She yanked the naked girl behind her and tackled the guy, making them sprawl outside of the now maelstrom of black flames and purple lightning.

"Oh… Shit." The rip in the air that she usually equates to portals opening sung with an eerie whistle, reality itself warping and shifting as an unknown force fought to fight off the clutches of its origins and into their world. Then, a presence like no other slammed head first against her senses and Kagome's breath was knocked out of her lungs.

'I-it's not a demon… Nor a kami… Or even a spirit.' She has never encountered this thing before and after such a long time, she felt scared.

What is it?

She turned to the wide eyed man by her side and snarled fiercely at him.

"What did you summon?!" With a crack that boomed and snapped, the flames and lightning merged together and Kagome's reiki glowed from beneath her skin, armed and ready to fight despite the disadvantage.

The answer she got almost had her crying.

"The devil…"
