For two days loki was absent, he didn't feel like going to school. tomorrow is Friday, loki should goodbye mary with a smile, so he went to buy a cake for her.
"be careful" eir said and loki nodded without looking at her and walked off. she felt horrible and blamed herself for what happened.
After a while loki returned, and he saw someone with a big wide stupid smile coming at him "loki! You're not sick!" before loki could answer he found himself being hugged, he stiffed in his place, "i was worried that you got sick again" he pulled back "what's wrong?" he saw a surprised expression on Loki's face, "nothing" loki answered, he was not used to hugs, well except from eir. "why were you absent?",
"nothing serious, just…..a small problem accrued" loki said
"you ok?"thor asked in worry,
"don't worry about it, it's really nothing",
"if you say so, anyway i have a gift for you" he looked so excited,
"come inside first" loki invited him and they got inside, meeting eir in the way. thor greeted her and she just smiled and greeted back with almost a clear voice. loki handed the cake to her and went up stairs to his room.
"sit whatever you like", the room was small in size, thor didn't notice that the last time he was here, he just sat on the floor. "guess what?" thor was really excited to the point he felt like jumping in his place.
"what?" loki said while setting on the bed,
"mother and father accidentally bought this for me without knowing that the other was buying it, so now i have two, and i thought why not give it to you", he got out a ticket from his pocket and showed it to him, it was a ticket for the gaming event which is supposed to happen next week, that time he will not be here.
"ask sif and the others, I'm kind of busy",
"I've already did, and they're not free that day",
"...that's an obvious lie",
"ok you got me, i didn't, but don't you think you can make time",
"no",
"pleeeeease, just for an hour",
"I'm sorry i really can't",
"alright" he sighed "i guess i won't go than", "you can't possibly not go because i said no, your parents bought that for you, be grateful and go",
"nooo I'll pass this time",
Loki got angry "so you're going to waste the efforts they have gone through to buy it",
"it's ok, it's not that big of a deal",
"you know, i hate you", that bringed shock to thor "you are surrounded by good parents, they buy you everything, yet you reject it. you have everything you wish for yet you toss it aside like it was nothing. what is wrong with you? Are you that ungrateful?",
"I'm not ungrateful! i just thought that it won't be fun going alone",
"ask your friends, you have a lots of them that will happily join you",
"...don't want to",
"you know what, just leave, you're horribly annoying, i wish that i didn't meet you. that way i wouldn't have had hope again. i don't want to see you anymore", that hurted more than i hate you,
"loki",
"i said get out!" he shouted "are you deaf or what!",
"alright calm down, i will go",
"and don't talk to me in school or come here again, this time I'm serious" he's eyes watered (this is better, this way he will loathe me and i can leave this place in peace),
Thor stood up "i won't stop talking to you",
"oh great, you're not only deaf but also an idiot, no wonder you failed your exams",
"what is the matter with you? Why are you talking like that",
"this how i usually talk, you don't like it",
"stop lying to yourself loki",
"I'm not laying",
"you realize that you're crying right", tears were flowing from Loki's eyes, he wipe it with his hands, "i don't know what happened but don't worry i will not leave you",
"why? Why you don't do like the others, why don't you hate me", he was sobbing
"i ahhh…believe or not but i feel like you are my brother, and it's because of that that i found myself not able to hate you",
"did you lost your mind?",
"no, i think i never been this certain in my life",
"stop, stop doing this, stop…..giving me hope…." there was a moment of silent,
"loki" he took a step but stopped after loki shouted again,
"get out!, just please get out",
"alright…..I will…..", thor got out and took a final glance behind him and went downstairs. He heard the door banged shut and he met eir in front of him.
"please don't take what he said seriously, he didn't mean it" she was talking in a low voice, fearing that loki could hear her, "he is just…he was taking his anger out, i know it's wrong to take it out on you, but i think i know why he did this, so please, please don't take him seriously",
"i don't understand what you mean, why he did this?",
"I'll tell you outside, come", she took his hand and went outside, "this place will close in a week, and it's sadden me to tell you this, but loki will move to another orphanage, it's in the nearby town, and will change schools too. he doesn't want that…..and i wish i could do something, but there's nothing i can do….and why he did this is probably because he wanted you to hate him so that he can leave this place. you see…it's seems that you gave him a hope that everything will get better, and he want to get rid of it after he learned of him moving out….so please don't believe what he said, you're the only person he considered a friend",
"why don't they move him to another orphanage in here",
"there is no other, this was the only one in here",
"why don't you take him then, you seem to love him, this way he can stay",
"wish that i could, but I can't, i can barely hold myself",
"but…..but that's unfair",
"I'm sorry thor" suddenly they heard a loud sound of something breaking and shuttering. thor moved to get inside but eir stopped him, "I'll take care of this, you should probably go",
"but",
"I've handled this before, trust me",
Thor nodded and eir got inside immediately. thor was about to leave when heard loki screaming in agony, he wanted to get back inside but what could he do, there's nothing he couldn offer. he closed his ears and returned to his home.
Thor was roaming his room back and forth, his mind hasn't settled since he returned. what should he do?, no matter how much he thinked he couldn't come up with an answer. until after an hour or so, an idea popped in his mind, "this might work", he ran down stairs to his father and mother.
"so what do you think?",
"it will be lovely, don't you think so darling, we always wanted another child?" frigga said, she immediately agreed because she heard about him from thor the past few days, and wanted to meet him. now after hearing what's about to happen to him, her heart broke for the boy.
"i need time to think, this is to sudden my son",
"father please, please, there is no time left" Thor pleaded hardly,
"...tell me about him", Thor told him everything he knew since he met him, "i can see that he endured a lot, well then why not",
"thank you father!" he jumped in excitement and hugged him tightly,
"shall we go tomorrow my dear?" he asked frigga,
"yes of course!" she was so happy that he agreed to do this.
Next day, eir and loki Farwell mary. it was hard but went better than they thought. now it was so quiet. loki was in his room laying in his bed, he had dark circles on his eyes, he hadn't managed to sleep yesterday, after a long time of trying to sleep, his eyes closed by themselves giving him finally a rest.
The doorbell rang and eir went to open the door, "hello" the man said, "hi" eir greeted with a smile, "sorry to disturb you but i think we're lost, is this is the orphanage?",
"yes it is",
"oh great, then you must be lady eir",
"yes it's me",
"well, could you spare us some time to talk?",
"of course, come inside", she led them to the living room, "I'll prepare tea, please feel yourselves at home",
After 5 minutes she returned to the room, "sorry for the wait, Mr…",
"odin, and this is my wife frigga",
"nice to meet you" she sat down after serving the tea, "so what brings you here today?",
"well you see, we have heard about a boy living in here, and we are interested in him",
"loki?",
"yes loki, me and my wife have heard a lot about him, and we want to adopt him",
"what!" she said in shock and dropped the cup in her hand,
"we came here especially for him" frigga said,
"who…. How…." she was speechless,
"someone told us about him, and since i couldn't give birth again we always wanted another child in the family, and luckily we found loki",
"this…..this is" her eyes teared, "I'm sorry, excuse me, but you don't know how much i waited for this moment and I'm very happy",
"it's ok, take your time",
Eir wiped her tears "who told you about him?",
"if we told you, could you keep it a secret, we want to make it a surprise",
"sure i promise",
"our son",
"your son?",
"i believe he came here yesterday",
"thor!" she shouted,
"shh it's a secret remember",
"oh I'm so sorry" she put her hand on her mouth, "that surprised me so much, i don't know what to say",
"so is this a yes?",
"of course, I'll prepare for it right away !" she jumped in excitement.
Loki opened his eyes, he felt so tired and his head hurt badly. He looked at the clock and saw it was 3 pm, he got up and went downstairs to drink water. maybe take a pill for this stupid headache too.
"loki you're awake!", her face was full of joy, "oh my dear you're not gonna believe this" she embraced him,
"what happened" he understand nothing of what's going on,
Eir cupped his cheeks with her hands "someone came for you, they asked to adopt you",
"what?" he was dumbfounded, "i don't understand",
"me dear, they asked especially for you",
"how….",
"i told you that someone will come, didn't I. and guess what, they live here and you won't need to move or change schools",
"who are they? And how do they know me",
"well, let's say that fate derived them here. they heard about you and decided to adopt you. isn't that great!",
"but who are they?",
"Mr borson and his wife",
"i….i.." he seemed lost and can't believe what he heard,
"it ok loki, i can assure you that they are good people",
"what if they didn't like me?" he said worried,
Eir shook her head sideways "no, not this time, I'm sure of it",
"how can you be sure?",
"trust me loki" loki kept silent for a moment "so what do you say?" he nodded, "oh my dear let me hug you" she wrapped him in tight hug,
"when will i leave?",
"I'll try to make it before Friday",
"Can I leave on Friday then? I want to help you empty the house",
"alright, as you wish".
Eir made the right preparations immediately and contacted odin telling him on Friday he can come and pick him up. He agreed, but frigga insisted to go and see loki before Friday. so they did. When loki met them, he was a little intimated, but frigga had managed to break that wall easily. odin was a little bit firm in the beginning but softened his heart at the end. they returned and told him that they would pick him up early on the friday morning, loki nodded and returned to the house to complete packing with eir.
Loki went to school and saw thor there, he didn't know how to face him. He wanted to apologize but he couldn't. thor too didn't talk to him, so he thought that his plan worked and he did really believe him. now that he's staying here, how could he continue the rest of the year? He must apologize but didn't find the courage to. He ended up not going to school the rest of the week being busy with moving out.
It was Friday now, the house was empty, he finally was getting out of it, he had happy memories but most of the time it was bad. always being the one left alone while the others gone with their new life and families. He does not know what will happen from now on but he will believe in eir's words. Eir's husband came early to pick her language and boxes, he was one of the few who treated loki good and always gave him books as gifts since he knew that loki loves them. odin was late so eir waited with loki until he came. after couples of minutes, odin came alone, "sorry for the late, i had to take care of something", loki shock his head and said it was ok, "alright then, put your stuff in the car",
"Mr. Odin, I forgot to tell you but I have a cat, is it alright if i bringed it with me?"loki said,
"well i see no harm in that", Loki's face brightened and thanked him. He had a couple of boxes so it didn't take time to move it. after he finished, it was time to say goodbye. He embraced eir tightly and promised her that he would visit her, eir gave him a kiss on the forehead and wished him a good life, they parted and each got in his own car. loki looked behind for the last time, "did you forget something?",
"no….no I've got everything" loki answered, "and about Mr …You know what, nothing, let's go", he started the engine and drove away.
On the way it was too quit until odin broke it, "you know, me and frigga have a son",
"a son? No i didn't",
"he is in your age",
"oh…..what's his name?",
"You will know soon, we are close now, our house is right there" he pointed with his finger to it. loki gulped and his stomach started to hurt from nervousness. the car stopped at the house, "you're good?" he saw that Loki's face paled, "just a little bit nervous" loki said, "it's alright son" he put his hand on Loki's shoulder and squeezed in reassurance "we can wait, take your time", a minute passed and loki took a deep breath and said "I'm ready".
They got out of the car and there was frigga waiting at the door. loki walked behind odin slowly, "welcome home!" she kissed odin and then looked behind him, "don't hide in there, i can see you", Loki's cheek got red a little bit. "come here" she hugged him "welcome home", he hesitated but returned the hug and nodded. "come inside",
"but the bags…" he said and frigga interrupted him,
"the bags can wait, let's go inside now" she pushed him from his back and got him inside. loki was fascinated by the house, it was so big and had a lot of decorations, "wow" he let that out without noticing and frigga let a small giggle "sorry it's just…..beautiful" he said with embarrassment,l.
"dear where is…?" odin asked,
"oh right, there is still one family member who you haven't seen yet" she said with a soft smile to loki, "you know he's been a little bit shy, so let me go and get him" she winked and went to the room on the right. a rumble could be heard, "come on now, weren't you excited about this" her voice could be heard and loki started wondering what is happening in there? That doesn't sound a little bit shy. "come on" she got out dragging the hand with her and finally the person could be seen. Loki's eyes got very wide and his face paled more than ever. "hi loki" thor said and things cleared up in Loki's mind now. eir's wired words and the name odin. how couldn't he figure it out? what was worse now that he didn't know what to do. the last time he saw him he shouted at him and didn't apologize. his emotions got mixed up from relife to guilt and happiness. He started to play with his hands, a gesture he always does when he is nervous. "hello thor" no other words could come out. frigga and odin knew what happened, thor told them, so frigga tried to come up with a solution "thor why don't you show him the house while i make lunch",
"what?" he turned to her in shock,
"come on" she pushed him a little bit and whispered "resolve this", on the other side, loki looked as if he was about to escape when a hand patted his back "you will get along in no time" odin said and pushed him to the front. the push gave him a little bit of courage, this is easy, he should just apologize, how hard could it be?.
Thor took him first to his room upstairs, "it's not finished yet though", all loki did was nod and avert his eyes, "the room next to you is mine…come and see it" loki just nodded again. thor sighed, what should he do to make things right again?. loki wanted to talk too but it was too hard, he only ended up following thor to his room. When he got in the room it was big, double his old room, it almost had everything. his eyes caught the figures that were on the shelves, he was amazed by it when his train of thoughts got cut. "are you mad?" thor asked,
"what?",
"maybe I should have told you first about this, but i couldn't stand the idea of you leaving when lady eir told me",
"..." apologizing was harder than he thought,
"you're stuff still in the car, let's go and get it" thor changed the subject when there was no response and turned to leave,l.
"wait!" he grabbed Thor's arm "I'm sorry, i didn't mean what i said, i taught that if i did this i could leave the town empty minded, i swear if i knew this would happen i wouldn't have said that. I'm not mad, surprised for sure but I was so, so relieved that i….i …. Thor I'm sorry i…" he was talking to fast that thor lost the track,
"wow relax, easy you're talking fast",
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry" his voice quivered,
"hey look, I'm not angry",
"but i said horrible things",
"oh well i forgot about it" he smiled widely,
"you're a fool you know",
"i hear that a lot,...are we good then?" loki nodded "welcome to the family brother" loki frowned at that "we are aren't we?",
"i guess so" he looked down and smiled,
"let's continue" thor walked but was stopped, loki was still grabbing his arm,
"i….i want to see that first" he aimed at the figures "if it's ok",
"oh that! Of course!, don't drop it though",
"I'm not clumsy like you" loki went to the shelf and grabbed one of the figures. "this is cool" he recognized some figures, and after that, he put them back. He said he wanted to see the rest of the house. thor was about to walk when a fluffy thing passed his legs which made him jump and scream in fear. "what the hell is that!" he looked down and saw the kitty "where did you came from!" he heard a giggle, then loki burst out laughing.
"that's Blackie" loki said and kept laughing,
"well tell your cat to stop scaring me, that's the second time you know!",
"I'm sorry" loki stopped laughing but there was a bright smile on his face. He bent down and picked up the cat. "this is Blackie, Mr odin said that he could come, don't you like him? I found it on the street so i took him",
"well he's cute, but i don't think that i like him" thor said and reached his hand to stroke his head. the cat licked his finger and it melted his heart "never mind i love him, anyways let's continue showing you the house".
Thor showed him the rest of the house, they had a room special for training and a library, "this belongs to father, he stays here most of the time",
"could i see it?",
"sure" the library was big, loki was amazed by it. "what's that?" he pointed at a door in the left,
"sorry can't help you with that, you see father is an archaeologist, so there are valuable things inside and he fears that it might get corrupted. he doesn't let me in except with permission, so you have to ask him first",
"oh i see" that caught his interest,
"well i guess that's pretty much it", the cat meows repeatedly, he was in Loki's hands,
"you must be hungry, your food is in the boxes",
"oh right, we didn't bring them in, let me get father's keys, wait for me outside" thor said and left. loki looked around him "do you like this place Blackie?...i do, I actually love it…..come on let's go get your food".
They moved the boxes, found the food and fed the cat. then frigga called "thor, loki, lunch is ready", "coming" thor said and he and loki went to the living room which had a table in it. the table was full of food "i think i got carried away a little bit and made a lots of food",
"I'm starving" thor said and sat down, odin followed him and sat alongside thor. loki hesitated "come on sit down dear, the food is getting cold" frigga said putting her hand gently on his back, he nodded and sat down while she sat beside him. the food smelled delicious, they started eating. It tasted different to loki, it was…warm. it filled his heart with warmness, he never felt that before. his eyes stung and a tear fell down, he felt a hand on his head caressing his hair, "are you alright darling?" frigga said, loki wiped the tear with his hand "it's nothing",
"it's alright now, we're here for you" she tucked a hair behind his ear and caressed his cheek. He nodded and they completed eating.
The day passed fast, loki emptied some boxes and left the others since his room was not done yet. the furnitures is going to come in the middle of the week, so he had to sleep until then in Thor's room.
"use my bed I'll sleep on the floor",
"no!, I'm going to sleep on the floor",
After a long argument, loki ended up sleeping on the bed, only after agreeing to switch the turns tomorrow. The room was dark, only a slight light was coming from the window. loki was staring at the ceiling, he couldn't sleep, thinking of something that couldn't get out of his mind. He sighed in tiredness and turned to his right side looking at the room for a while, then fell asleep.
Loki woke up in the morning, when he opened his eyes the ceiling in front of him knew it very well. he was back at his room, he got up in a sitting position, "so it was a dream after all" he giggled in sadness "how pathetic", the door knocked.
"loki are you awake?" lady eir asked,
"yes i just woke up",
"alright, get ready, we are leaving soon",
"yes lady eir" loki got up off his bed and got ready to leave. today he was leaving the orphanage and the town. He hasn't told anyone about this, and what happened last week had worked successfully. He can leave now without regrets.
After moving everything in the car, he got inside it silently and the car drove away. After a long two hours they arrived. The building was big, kids were running in the yard playing. eir turned to him and said "are you ready?", he nodded and got out of the car, he didn't have any kind of expression on his face and eir got out behind him. "loki…..loki please wait", he stopped in his place without looking back "i assure you things will get better, don't give up yet", he kept silent and finally said "thank you for all these years lady eir", he walked and eir wanted to stop him, but her husband stopped her telling her there is nothing she can do. loki proceeded to the building and the woman in charge showed him his room. He put down everything, closed the door and laid on the bed and fell asleep.
"father where are we going?", no answer came, "father?",
"stay silent",
"ok" loki knew better than to oppose his father, so he kept silent the whole way until they reached a crowded area. "wait here" laufey said,
"but it's scary here" loki said with watery eyes,
"wait here, I said!" he raised his voice in anger and loki flinched and backed up.
"I'm sorry, i will wait" he said while raising his arms in defense,
"...good" laufey said and walked away.
Loki's been waiting for hours now, the sun is almost gone and it's getting darker by each minute pass. "father where are you…please come back, don't leave me". It was 10 a clock now, and he was still waiting. someone approached him "hey little guy, are you lost?" the woman asked and loki shook his head. "are you waiting for someone?" loki nodded, "sweetie, how long have you been standing here", loki hesitated, "it's okay, you can tell", "...since morning, father told me to wait here" loki said with shocking voice, the woman looked behind her and signaled to the man with shaking her head. the man understood what she meant and nodded to her.
"what's your name darling?",
"loki",
"well loki, would you like to come with me? I'm sure you're hungry",
"but…",
"it's alright, you see that place in there" she pointed at the restaurant nearby "we will eat there and wait for your father. sounds good?" she said with a soft and lovely smile. loki was so hungry so he agreed. she offered her hand and he grabbed it and walked with her. The woman talked with the man that was waiting for her, "what do we do?" she asked,
"let's get him to the police station and see if they could find his father",
"...alright" they returned to sit and wait for the little boy to finish eating. after that the woman managed to persuade the kid to go and look for his father.
At the police station the policeman took the necessary information to look for the father, he also took the name of the woman, she was eir, and after some time they managed to find laufey's place. they couldn't reach him, his phone was out of service. the policeman talked to eir telling her the news. loki concentrated on them and could figure out what was happening. Then eir returned to him explaining the situation to the boy and offered him to come with her until they found his father. He then started crying and saying no. "father! NO, don't leave me!" He started screaming and eir tried to calm him down but he wouldn't want to. He kept pushing her away whenever she touched him. "father!", not that his life was good with laufey but where else could he go?.
"loki wake up!", loki opened his eyes wide in fear, he was heaving and sweating. Then he concentrated his eyes on the figure in front of him. "thor? But how…." he looked around him in shock, this was certainly Thor's room. Was he dreaming?, he changed to sitting position "what happened?",
"you were moaning",
"I'm sorry i waked you" he rubbed his eyes,
"nightmare?",
"it's nothing",
"...you were calling father",
"...sorry i…",
"it's alright, you don't need to apologize",
"sorry, won't happen again",
"...you know, mother say it's better to talk about our nightmares,...it helps in making them go away",
"it's really nothing, just a stupid dream, don't bother by it",
"...alright as you want", he laid back on the floor trying to sleep again,
"...i don't want to sleep",
Thor opened his eyes again "hmm?",
"I'm scared to sleep and waking up to nothing",
"was that your dream?",
"...only the first part" he started talking wishing that what Thor's said might be true. "i was in the new orphanage….i woke up and went to it….and then fell asleep. the next part was when i was a child,...it's always the same…father one day took me out with him and told me to wait for him in the street…...he never came back…...now i found myself afraid to close my eyes and wake up to nothing again and all of this will be a dream…..i don't want to leave",
"listen, you won't leave, none of us will, those are just mere dreams, they mean nothing, what matters now that you are here",
"how can i be sure that I'm here?",
"give me your hand",
"huh, why?",
"just do it", loki got close to the edge of the bed and did as told. thor held his hand "this way you will know that it's not a dream, and that you're not alone. we are all here for you and i promise i won't abandon you, alright?",
"...sentimental",
"what?",
"sentimental fool, that's what you are" he smiled,
"say what you want, but my words are real, now go to sleep",
"...i have something else",
"what is it",
"do you think that your parents like me?",
"are you kidding me, mom had completely fell in love with you, and dad, well he doesn't show it but he really cares for you. after he agreed to adopt you he immediately bought everything for you before even go to the orphanage",
"really?",
"yes!, so don't worry",
"ok, one last thing, what do you think i should call them",
"mom, dad i guess",
"...I'll try…good night",
"Good night", thor closed his eyes, and after a minute he felt Loki's hand return the grip on his. he smiled and fell asleep.
Next morning loki woke up to the sunlight shining on his eyes, he sat down, rubbed his eyes and opened them. he looked around him and relife overwhelmed him. it was not a dream, this was reality. he then felt his hand heavy, he looked down and realized that Thor was still holding his hand. that idiot he thought, "thor wake up…thor", "just five minutes" thor said, "at least leave my hand….thor", he let go and turned to the other side continuing sleeping. loki got up, washed his face and got out of the room. the house was silent, (is no one awake yet?) he walked quietly barely making a sound and the cat meowed behind him. "shh Blackie, come here" he held the cat "you must be hungry", he got down the stairs and fed the cat then went to the kitchen and looked for water. he found it and poured it in a glass "good morning loki", loki flinched and dropped the water and it spilled everywhere on the table. he grabbed it and sat it on the table "g..good morning" he averted his eyes and frigga smiled softly "you woke up early, couldn't you sleep?",
"no….I'm used to wake up in this time",
"oh a morning person i see" she handed him a towel,
"thank you",
"the books you have, there is an empty place in the library if you want to put it there",
"is it alright?",
"yeah, feel free to use it, so what do you want for breakfast?",
"...anything is good",
"you don't have anything you favor" she got a pan and food out ready to cook,
"...scrambled eggs",
"ok, can you do me a favor and wake your brother",
(brother? Oh she means thor) "right away", loki walked away with a confused expression and he met odin on his way. "good morning",
"good morning, did you sleep well my son?",
(son?) "yes",
"good, about your books, you can put it in the library",
"yes, miss frigga told me",
"alright, you can read anything you want in it" he patted Loki's head and went to the living room. loki stunned in his place for a second for the pat, then he headed upstairs to Thor's room. Thor was still sleeping, "thor wake up…thor", thor responded with a grown, "come on breakfast is almost ready", thor finally opened his eyes and sat up and saw Loki's confused face. "something wrong?", loki shook his head and said "it's just all of this feels new and i don't know how to respond to it",
"don't worry to much about it brother" he ruffled Loki's hear, "don't ruin my hair" loki said in anger, thor just ruffled it more "stop it you oaf" he pulled away and they heard their mother calling for them. thor went to the bathroom and loki went down and sat on the table. a minute passed then thor came down, they ate and finished. after that frigga called for thor, "thor, i found this in your clothes, i almost was going to wash them" she had two tickets in her hand "are these for the game event?", thor bluntly answered in agreement. loki heard that and a question popped in his head. "so you finally managed to get one" frigga said, "yes, i was lucky this time" he answered, "it's good that i didn't wash them, here" she handed them to him "be careful next time or i will really wash it". thor took the tickets and headed up to his room. loki took the chance and asked. "…mother" loki said with red cheeks, frigga felt joy filling her heart hearing him calling her that
"yes dear",
"umm those tickets, you didn't buy it?",
"no, why asking?",
"no it's nothing" he changed the subject immediately "the food was delicious, it reminds me of lady eir's cooking",
"ohh thank you, happy that you liked it",
After that, Loki started emptying his book boxes in the library as he was told and his mind was occupied with thinking. after he finished, he went to the training room. thor was there, about to begin training "thor",
"yes",
Loki got closer " you bought the tickets right?",
"what!, no! I didn't",
"mother didn't know about the tickets when she handed it to you",
"i ahh…father bought it",
"you said that you got lucky this time",
"did i?",
"yes…why did you lie?",
"...because….. i knew that you will refuse if i said that i bought it….not that it matters now…Sorry" he looked like a puppy,
"...we can still go",
Thor's face changed to joy "really?!",
"well, i just refused because i thought i was moving out of town" he remembered shouting and felt guilty more for accusing thor of being ungrateful.
"that's great!" out of excitement he embraced loki in a bear hug, loki stiffed, but eventually relaxed and this time he returned the hug. thor pulled away with his hand on Loki's neck "this will be fun, I can't wait for it!".
Days passed and Loki's room had finally arrived, so he moved to it. "My roommate is gone" thor said and Loki rolled his eyes "I'm just next room", "I'll miss you" thor said and loki sighed "idiot".
The grades came out, and they were eating lunch when odin asked "how are your grades?", thor shocked on his food while loki let a small laugh out. "Someone is getting extra classes" loki said,
"again thor! I swear i don't know what to do with you",
"sorry father" Thor apologized with a troubled smile,
"and you loki?",
"me? umm all hundreds and ninety", odin looked shocked.
"well done loki", loki looked happy about the small praise, "for you thor, you're grounded",
"what! But why?",
"I've been silent for a long time now, you're carelessness is what led to this, no more going out with your friends until your extra classes end alongside your final exams",
"but father.." thor was cutted immediately,
"i will not argue about this" odin was angry and frustrated and the atmosphere fell silent. odin finished and got up to his room in the library. "thor, don't get mad, you're father is doing this for your own good" frigga said,
"but that longer than last time",
"well thor i guess you know why he did that and i can't help you. I'm with Odin's decision"
"oh mom not you too" he slammed his head on the table. On the other side loki got scared about the word grounded, he thought that odin was going to hit thor or something.
Loki was in his room reading, he finished the book so he got up to return it to the library. when he went there he saw the door to odin's room opened, he was really curious of what inside, so he got closer and picked from the crack and saw no one inside. (did he forget to close the door?...just a small glance) he slowly opened the door and got inside. the room was full of ancient antiques, weapons and some weird stuff like a glove. There was a blue casket shining that caught his eyes, he got closer to touch when a voice called him, "stop",
loki flinched and turned around "father!",
"step aside" odin said,
"I'm sorry i didn't..",
odin interrupted him "for now step aside and then we can talk", loki did as told and he was frightened now. odin had a glassy box in his hand, wore a glove and put the casket inside of the glassy box and shut it by what it seems a special mechanism.
"what are you doing in here?" odin asked,
"I'm sorry i just got curious" loki said with quivering voice,
"curiosity kills the cat, what you were about to touch was poisonous" odin said in a scolding manner,
"I'm sorry" loki looked down not able to look odin in the eyes from fear, his heart was pounding rapidly.
odin sighed,"I thought that I said before, you don't get inside this room without permission first, you almost gave me a heart attack, what would I have done if I lost you?" odin put his hand on Loki's head "don't you ever do that again alright?", loki nodded, "look at me and say it",
loki barely managed to do so "yes father",
"good, if you want to come here ask first and I'll gladly show you" this time odin changed his tone to comforting and stroke his head andloki relaxed a little bit. nothing bad happened, he then looked at the casket and asked "what was that casket?",
"legends said that it belonged to a civilization called jotunheim, it was used as weapon, though how it's used is not known",
"why keep such a dangerous thing in here?",
"it's my work to inspect these artifact then send it to the right place",
"what about those in here" his fear had gone and start asking questions,
"not dangerous but valuable and i kept to myself",
"that hammer does not sound not dangerous" he pointed on miljoner,
Odin let a small laugh "maybe not",
Loki felt more comfortable talking to odin, his previous experience with his father was bad, so he thought this will be the same, he was glad that he was wrong. he looked around and saw Six stones that caught his eyes in a similar box made of glass "stones?",
"that also poisonous",
"all six of them?",
"yes, who made them is unknown, put they are deadly, it was found sticking in that gauntlet, i assume it was a way to use it all at once to make something out of it. but it's still unknown until a more research is made",
"so everything in here has a story behind it",
"of course",
"that's nice!" his eyes glowed in excitement, "what about…" he was interrupted by the phone ringing, odin picked up the call leaving loki waiting after odin finished he said "work, come on, I'm going to close the room" he went to pick the casket, "...can i come here again and hear about them" he asked with hope that odin will agree, "of course" odin gave him a sincere smile, "thank you father!" loki got out of the room looking forward to coming here again. odin got out of the room and closed it, "he's really growing on you doesn't he?" frigga said,
"you were sneaking?",
"not intentionally, but it's good that he start opening up for you, i was worried about that",
"and why is that?",
"two reasons, first you are grumpy all the time, so he's intimidated to approach you, second thor told me a little secret, Loki's father abandoned him, so he must be thinking that you are the same, but don't worry it seems that you breaked the idea for him, don't disappoint him now" frigga saw odin sulking "what's wrong?",
"abandoning, can't imagine how did he have the heart to do that",
"me neither, the idea is scary but the feeling must be much worse",
"it's alright now, he won't experience it again",
"yes you're right".
Since thor was grounded and all he did was studying. and when he was bored and couldn't get out he went to Loki's room. "loki what are you reading? Don't you get bored of reading", that started to irritated loki a lot, weeks passed and all that loki heard was this words over and over. "let's play or train in the training room",
"thor, for the last time get out of here if you don't want to remain silent",
"but lokiiiii", loki ignored him and thor got closer and held the the book in his hand and closed it. "thor!" loki said frustrated,
"please brother I'm dying of boredom in here",
"if i did, will you leave me read in peace?",
"can't promise that",
"then no" he pulled the book away and continued reading,
"...what are you reading?", there we go again, the same cycle goes over and over.
"why do you ask any way, you don't like reading",
"not true, i do like them",
"like if I'll believe",
"i do, i like the ones with the pictures"
"that's children's stories you idiot",

"thor….." he sighed in annoyance "look just let me finish the chapter and i will play with you alright?",
"ok, how long will you take",
"15 minutes",

"I'll make it an hour then",
"Alright I'll wait" he sighed, he had nothing to do while waiting, so he rested his head on Loki's shoulder and closed his eyes. loki started to get used to these actions, so he let him until he finished reading. After he finished reading he closed the book "I'm done…..thor….thor" thor fell asleep and was breathing soundly "are you asleep?... Unbelievable…..well at least i can read in peace now".
The final exams was getting closer for the first term, then there will be a vacation before proceeding with the second term, if thor was lucky and got good marks he will be free from extra classes, thus meaning the end of his grounding
"are you listening?" loki said,
"yes" thor said with a blunt face,
"that's an obvious lie" he sighed "let's take a rest", after thor begged him he was helping him studying for exams,
"what! No let's continue",
"no, there is no point if your mind is somewhere also b… Thor" it's been a while with loki stuttering like this, thor once asked him what was wrong with him and all it did was loki burst in anger with a red face telling to shut up and it's none of his business. so he let him be.
Thor growled in tiredness "I'm going to end up getting extra classes, why is this happening to me, maybe I'm stupid",
"you're not stupid b... Thor" it's sounds like he is shocking with somthing whenever he tries saying it, "it's just two subjects you're bad at it, everyone is bad at something",
"really?",
"yes",
"does that mean you're bad at one too?",
"...maybe",
"what is it?",
"P. E class",
"oh right, you really are, I almost forget" he laughed,
"stop laughing",
"sorry, by the way your birthday is near, what do you want as a gift",
"anything is good",
"again with that, fine I'll think of something to bring…i can't believe your birthday is before me, that's mean that I'm the youngest in the family",
"what exactly are you talking about",
"well my birthday is after two months of you, so that's mean you were born first",

Loki rolled his eyes "idiot",

"oh dear, i should've not told you that, let's just continue studying", he grabbed the book in his hands,

"this part might come in the exam so listen carefully…brother",
"ok" he's mind was concentrating on what was about to be said until he realized "wait, did you just…?",
"focus or i will not repeat this part" he tried to lose the matter, but thor being thor didn't allow it, he ended up in a crushing hug "stop it you oaf, that hurts",
"alright" he let him go "i have the energy now to continue studying",
"idiot".
Exams ended and the result came out, before thor saw the grades he was praying and finally saw it he passed everything, and that's mean no extra classes he got happy and excited but not for too long, his friends are getting extra classes, except for sif, and there goes the vacation to nothing. he returned home told his parents the news, odin was delighted but warned him that if he didn't keep this up the punishment will be worst next time. "no worries father, I'm just going to let loki teach me again",
"no i won't, what I'm i your mentor?",
"yes!",
"oh great, what did i bring upon myself, father bring him a home teacher",
Odin laughed "I'll think about it",
"what!" thor said, "yes!" and loki said in cheering,
"no i don't need one",
"will see" odin said.
Vacation, what a vacation, there was nothing to do, so again thor kept annoying loki, this time loki lost it and they started fighting. bad idea loki thought after thor easily knocked him down on the floor with his hand behind his back "thor get off of me",
"you should have known better not go against me" thor said with a wide smile , he clearly was enjoying this,
"alright i give up" loki said tired of trying to break off,
"you should train more",
"I'll consider it, will you get off now, you're heavy",
thor got off and said "score one for me",
loki got irritated so he grabbed him by the collar and gave him a head. thor shouted in pain, "now it's a tie…brother?", loki didn't feel it but he accidentally hit Thor's nose and he was bleeding. He panicked when he saw blood dripping, "brother! I'm sorry! I didn't mean too!" he got closer to him, thor was holding his nose in pain, "brother I'm truly sorry!, what should i do!" frigga and odin were outside.
"it's alright loki, calm down",
"I'll bring some ice, stay here!" he went downstairs to the kitchen in a hurry and returned with ice wrapped in a towel, "here, remove your hand", loki put on the ice on Thor's nose, the bleeding eventually stopped, loki start shivering (what have i done!, what will happen if mom and dad figured it out?, they surely will…but i didn't mean it). he remembered some memories of what his father used to do when he made a mistake, from hitting to locking him up in the dark, "I'm sorry thor",
"it's alright it was an accident",
"i didn't mean it i swear",
"relax, things like that happen",
Loki heard some noises coming from down stairs, his parents must have returned, his fear grew and his face paled. "thor, loki we're home, come down and eat, we brought food with us" frigga said,
"up here mother," thor said with a shocked voice, frigga wandered what's wrong with him, "i kind of can't get down",
"what happened?",
(no no please don't come up) loki shut his eyes tightly and bit his lips. frigga got up the stairs and came to the room and saw the blood on the floor "my god what happened!",
"a little accident" thor said,
"let me see", she grabbed the towel from Loki's hand and loki let go. she got it off to see what happened "oh that's bad, your nose is purple, the blood has stopped though, what happened?", loki flinched at that "did you hit your nose?",
"i hit him" loki said,
"what?",
"i didn't mean it",
"we were wrestling mother" thor said "i guess we overdid it a little bit",
"god, be careful next time, what were you two thinking",
"sorry" thor said and loki followed "I'm sorry",
"the hit doesn't look so bad, good thing your nose is not broken, go change your cloth it's all blood",
"alright" thor stood up and left the room leaving loki, frigga saw him still shivering "loki",
"i didn't mean it",
"it's ok, things like that happen" she stroked his hair "don't think to much about it",
"you…..you will not punish me?",
"what? Of course not, just be careful next time when you two wrestle alright?" loki nodded "let's clean all this blood".
Later on the table, when odin saw Thor's nose and asked what happened frigga answered him by saying a little bit of rough play that led to an accident, odin was not angry at all, loki though didn't seem to believe it, he barely touched the food and then went to his room after they finished eating. he sat on the bed with his knees close to his chest and was wondering what would happen now.
The rest of the day loki didn't came out of the room. frigga got worried and went to check on him. she knocked on the door and when she didn't hear a reply she entered the room opening the door slowly. she saw loki crawled up on his bed, she went to him "loki, are you alright?", he didn't respond, "loki" she sat beside him "are you still upset about today" he didn't answer "what's wrong dear" she stroke his hair.
"what will my punishment be",
"what?,punishment?, why would i do such a thing?",
"because I've hurted thor",
"so? It's not like you've meant it, even if you meant it we will figure something to resolve it",
"...i don't understand",
"you don't understand what?",
"aren't you and father suppose to punish me",
"why would we do that?",
"is it not how it goes? ",
"not necessarily, you didn't do anything wrong",
"what if i did?",
"loki, what are you fearing?",
"...nothing",
Frigga thinked for a little bit " loki…..did your father used to punish you", loki looked at her in fear, "it's alright, you can tell me" she stroke his back up and down in reassurance, loki looked lost then nodded. "what did he used to do?",
"...mostly hitting,... And if i did a mistake it's get worse…and then i get locked in a dark room till the morning…once he told me that if i kept doing mistakes he will throw me in the street…i guess he was serious after all" he smiled pathetically.
Frigga's eyes widened and teared "oh dear" she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and hugged him close. "what your father did was wrong alright, what he did is not normal in any meaning, do you understand?",
"so I'm not getting a punishment?",
"of course not" she kissed his head "did you ever saw us harm thor even though he makes a lot of mistakes",
"no, you only prevent him from going out and then he ends up annoying me",
Frigga laughed "sorry about that, anyways, as you can see you don't have to be afraid okay?",
"...okay", frigga kissed him one more time on his head and then left.
Loki was thinking of how much he felt thankful and lucky to be here, he's yet had not thanked the source if it.
A Couple of days past, loki went to Thor's room, thor like always smiled, he was playing and told him to come and join him. loki was standing in the door playing with his hands "how is your nose?",
"better, oh come on! That's not fair!" he growled in anger because he lost and threw the controller away and he laid on the ground.
Loki got inside, hesitating, he then got closer and sat down silently.
"if you want to try defeating that thing then be my guest, it's been days now and it's not dying",
"brother…..",
"hmm?",
"thank you",
"huh?" he didn't understand what's he thanking him for,
"I never dreamed of…..having a family,...and because of you I'm here,...thank you brother….",
"well" he changed to sitting position "i couldn't leave my little brother suffering after hearing his silent mourning" he reached his hand and patted Loki's head "next time be sure to shout it out loud so we can hear you", loki reached and hugged him tightly, thor was surprised by the sudden action, he giggled "someone is being sentimental",
"shut up" he pulled away immediately, "anyway…where is the controller" he changed the subject, thor was used to this, usually he would tease him about that but now he let it go and laid back on the floor. after a couple of minutes, "ah! I beat it" loki said and
thor got up "what! How!",
"because you're a loser" he smiled, thor slapped him lightly on the head "ouch",
"give me that" he said and snatched the controller frustrated, "I'm not a loser",
"says the one who lost every match against me",
"I'll win one day, you'll see",
"of course" he said sarcastically,
"Mock as you want but you will regret it", loki smirked at that, "care for a match?", loki thinked for a little bit and said with a big smile "absolutely".
