Chapter Seventeen

"Daniel!" I ran to his side where he was propped up against the wall. I pressed my hands against his wound on the left side of his chest where blood was pouring out.

Jack reached into his vest pockets and pulled out a fist aid kit. But a simple band aid wouldn't be of much help here, Daniel had lost to much blood already. He'd be lucky if he lasted another five minutes.

Daniel swatted Jack's hands away"I'm dead anyway!Just get out of here!"

"I'm not leaving you here Daniel!" Jack shouted trying to hull him up.

"Get out of here! You're just gonna blow up with the other ship anyway. What difference does it make?! Just go!"

Jack sighed and stood. "Come on Erin."

"I'm staying to Jack. I'm not going to leave him" I said. Jack opened his mouth to say something but I shook my head. "And I'll just slow you down." Raising my injured arm, which I could barely move at this point and I saw Jack's eyes widen in surprise. "We'll watch your backs."

Jack looked down at us in defeat then called to rest of our team. "Lets move out."

"What about Erin and Daniel?" Sam asked as they moved to stand on the ring platform.

"They're staying behind." Jack said coming to stand beside her.

"I will remain to." Kalen said stepping away from the platform.

"Farewell old friend." Bra'tac smiled at his pupil.

"Farewell master."

As the rings descended from the ceiling I locked eyes with Klorel one last time. "Goodbye Skaara." And then they were gone.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Now what?" I asked as Kalen came over and knelt beside Dani and me. Daniel was already starting to lose consciousness and his breaths were getting shallower.

Kalen hung his head. "Now, we die."

Getting to my feet I shook my head. "No, no, no. I refuse to accept that." I scanned the room, looking for some possible way out of this. Then I found it. Wrapping my uninjured arm around one of Daniel's arms I hoisted him up. "Help me get him into the sarcophagus." I said to Kalen.

He grabbed Daniel's other arm and helped me carry/drag Daniel to the sarcophagus. Kalen rotated the Eye of Ra on the lid and the sarcophagus opened. We laid Daniel down in the glowing chamber and watched it closed over him.

"What is your plan?" Kalen asked walking around the room gathering discarded weapons. When he came back to where I stood by the sarcophagus he handed me a staff weapon.

Taking the staff I took up position by the door. Being only able to use my left arm would make it particularly hard to activate and aim the staff should a Jaffa patrol come our way. "We have four minutes until the C4 blows taking out this ship and hopefully Apophis's. If we can make it to the gate and dial out before that happens there might be a change we'll get out of this alive. I just hope this thing heals Daniel before its to late."

"Where will we go?"

"The Alpha site." Kalen looked at me confused. "A fail safe planet in case Earth was ever attacked and destroyed."

A creaking sound came from the sarcophagus as the lid opened and a confused but thankfully healed Daniel stepped out. "What in the world is going on?"

Dropping my staff I ran and grabbed his arm, dragging him out of the room. "No time to explain!" I shouted. The timer on the C4 placed under the control console was down to 1 minute, 22 seconds.

Daniel, Kalen and I ran through the ship's corridors. Lucky we made it back to the gate room without running into any Jaffa. The door slid open to the gate room and I immediately ran to the DHD and began dialing.

"Duck!" Daniel shouted.

I fell to the ground just in time to watch a staff blast sizzle over my head. Typical, just as we're about to escape the bad guys show up. About six jaffa were stationed at the entrance and were shooting at anything that was moving in the chamber, unfortunately all that was moving was us. Kalen and Daniel took cover behind the many crates scattered around the room.

We didn't have time for this. Ignoring the gun fire and blasts I threw myself to my feet and continued dialing the alpha site. Good thing these jaffa weren't great shots as most of the blasts went past me, but one struck home on my lower right calf just as I finished the sequence. I let out a scream but remained standing long enough to press the engage button on the DHD.

Kalen and Daniel ran out from their cover spots and each put one of my arms over their shoulders. Blasts continued to shoot past us as the three of us skidded across the floor and threw ourselves threw the gate.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

We came through to a densely forested planet with two moons. Off in a clearing now to far from the gate was a tented camp. The rest of my observation had to wait as a dozen of rifles and machine guns cocked, ready to shoot us. "Hold fire." A familiar voice shouted, but one that I couldn't place at the moment.

"Shut it down!" Daniel shouted and the wormhole disengaged.

"Get a med team down here asap!" The voice shouted again. Four nurses came running up carrying a stretcher that Daniel and Kalen helped me on.

"What about him?" The owner of the voice came forward. It was Feretti, who at the moment still had his weapon slightly raised at Kalen.

"Feretti?" I moaned from the stretcher. I guess he was finally released from the hospital after the attack on Abydos.

Feretti glanced at me and gave me a quick smile. "Hey kid."

"Major this is a rebel jaffa, and its a long story but he's on our side." Daniel said steeping between Feretti and Kalen. "Now's really not the time, we need to get Erin back to the SG-C."

Feretti shook his head. "Last we heard Earth was about to be bombarded by alien hostiles."

"I don't think we have to worry about the ships anymore. The ship we were just one was about to blow, taking the other one out in the process." Daniel smile a bit, but it didn't reach his eyes. We still didn't know the fate of the rest of our team.

"Dial it up!" Feretti ordered one of the sergeants.

"Mom!" A little girl's voice shouted and turning in my stretcher I saw a small red head barreling her way through the crowd that was gathering around the gate.

"Cassandra!" I cried out and sat up as mush as I could in the stretcher and she threw her arms around my neck. Tears were streaming down my face as I kissed her forehead.

"Hammond sent her threw with the first group of refuges." Feretti explained.

"I missed you so much." I whispered to Cassie.

The sergeant finished dialing and the gate opened up. "Stay here until I radio its okay for you to come through." Daniel said before stepping through.

A few minutes later Daniel radioed that it was all clear and the nurses carrying my stretcher went through followed by Kalen and Cassie.

Waiting on the other side was Janet and General Hammond, who looked like he had aged a few more years in only the few short days since I had last seen him.

Janet immediately came over and began examining my right arm and leg. "General, I need to get her into surgery right away."

Daniel walked up the ramp and took Cassie's hand out of mine and held her close as the nurses carried me off. I glanced at Kalen still standing up on the rap looking more than a little lost. He had just lost everything he'd ever known, I just hoped he'd find a place here like Teal'c has.

My last thoughts before Janet put me under for surgery were of my missing teammates. If we had made it out, maybe they had found a way off the ships to.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Oh, ow!" I moaned sitting up in my hospital bed. My unfocused eyes roved around the room. The painkillers that Janet was undoubted giving my were dulling the pain in my led and arm, dulling not ceasing. Man I hate how I feel after I've had anesthesia. There was a blurry figure sitting by my bedside so I squinted my eyes to focus them a little. The figure coalesced itself into Hammond.

"General." On instinct I tried to stand.

"Not so fast." Hammond put his hand on my left shoulder. "You've been through a lot."

"Any word on the rest of SG-1 sir?" I asked.

Hammond smiled a bit, which gave me hope. "To the point, just like Jack. SG-1 made it off the ships in two commandeered death gliders. They were then picked up by the shuttle USS Endeavor. As we speak they are on their way down to the gate room."

Thank God. "Sir, I'd like to be present when they arrive."

Again Hammond smiled. "I thought you'd say that, and I know there's not much I can do to convince you to stay, other than order you to. I'll have a wheelchair brought in."

"Thank you sir." I nodded my head in thanks. He turned to walk out, but there was just one more thing I wanted to say to him before he left. "General." He stopped and came back to my bedside. "Thank you, for taking care of Cassandra."

"Anytime." He laughed a little as he walked out of the room.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Daniel and Cassie came down a few minutes later to take me and my wheelchair down to the gate room where everyone not on duty had gathered to welcome back SG-1.

He leaned down to give me a hug, careful of my right shoulder. "Thanks for what you do on the ship."

"I'm glad you're okay." I said hugging him back. Then taking Cassandra's hand in mine Daneil wheeled me out.

Hammond's voice boomed down the corridor. "Sg-1 There's some people here who would like to see you."

Daniel brought us around the corner and face to face with the rest of our team, and Bra'tac. They stared silently at us in shock for the longest time. Surprisingly Teal'c was the first to break out of his stupor and he smiled fullheartedly for the first times since we'd met. Bra'tac looked up at his pupil and let out a laugh.

"Daniel! Erin!" Sam grinned.

Lastly Jack walked up to us slowly, like we might disappear if he moved to fast. Then he grabbed us in the biggest bear hug imaginable, which was a feat since one of us was sitting and the other standing. "Space monkeys." He mumbled ruffling our hair playfully.

When he stepped back I looked up at Bra'tac. "What about Klorel and Apophis?"

The old jaffa's face darkened a bit. "No doubt they escaped before their ships were destroyed. We have not seen the last of them."

"Then there's still a chance for Skaara." I said.

"How so?" Sam asked.

"I saw him fighting back. He broke through and nearly stopped Klorel from raising the shields. I think Klorel picked the wrong person to take as a host. This fight isn't over."

"I agree. This fight is only just beginning." Bra'tac turned to Teal'c. "Once news spreads of Apophis' defeat and how his own jaffa turned against him, many more jaffa who long for freedom will join our cause."

Teal'c bowed his head. "Indeed old friend."

"So what do we do?" Daneil asked, putting his arms around my shoulders and Cassie's.

Jack walked up the ramp towards the gate, gazing at it for a few moments. After some heavy thinking he looked back at us smiling. "We get back out there."

Author's Note: I wasn't intending for this to happen, but this episode seems to come almost full circle from the end of the episode I wrote on The Children of the Gods. It's cool how writing comes together sometimes. It case you missed it. Feretti's character has been in the hospital since the end of Children of the Gods and he just got out. He didn't play much of a role in what I wrote of season one, but expect him to play a bigger role in what I write of season two.

Kalen's character was one that I had originally put in and then I was gonna kill off in the next chapter. OMG I know right? But then he evolved and got more interesting the more I wrote. I know there's not a whole lot of him here, but he to will play a more expanded part in season two. How will the SG-C deal with another turn coat Jaffa? Will Kalen be able to find his place on Earth? Why has he taken such an interest in Erin?

Big changes for our characters and bigger stories coming soon!
