THE YEARN

"Are you sure about this Sakura?" An agitated Li Syaoran glanced at his smiling girlfriend and at their unconscious friends slumped on the couch, stuck in a magically induced sleep.
"Of course!" Sakura continued to smile brightly, arranging Tomoyo's skirts and adjusting Eriol's glasses. Tomoyo had her head pillowed on Eriol's shoulder, while the latter had his head inclined towards Tomoyo.
"And they look soooooo good together, don't you think?" she added, head tilted to one side. "Besides, it worked for us Syaoran-kun! It should work for them too!"
Syaoran frowned. Daidouji and Hiiragizawa together boggled the mind. "They are not in a relationship."
"Not officially! But you've seen how they look at each other!"
It was not something he wanted to think about. As long as no one is hurting anyone, he was alright with how things were. "This is not a good idea, Sakura. You know how stubborn they are. What if they refuse to do the tasks? They'll be stuck in there."
"I've set it so the magic wears off after a few hours. Everything will be alright Syaoran-kun!" She grabbed her mobile phone and took a quick picture of the sleeping couple.
"Let's go! We have a movie to catch! They'll still be here when we get back!"
Syaoran shook his head and followed Sakura out the door. He really hoped she's right. It won't do to have an irate Hiiragizawa and Daidouji after you.
.
Tomoyo woke up feeling disoriented. The last thing she remembered was meeting Sakura at Eriol's house. They were supposed to watch a movie. She didn't remember feeling tired at all.
"Good afternoon princess." Eriol was seated beside her on the couch.
"Good afternoon Hiiragizawa-kun. I'm sorry, I must have dozed off. Are we leaving now?"
"I actually just woke up myself," he said distractedly, looking at something on the mantelpiece. "I don't think we're going to the movies Daidouji-san."
"I don't understand Hiiragizawa-kun. Has Sakura-chan and Syaoran-kun changed their minds? I don't mind just hanging out if they did."
He had walked over to the mantelpiece and picked up a transparent glass jar filled with blue and purple pebbles. "Sakura told me that she got a new card last week. Looks like she decided to use it on us."
Tomoyo's eyes widened in alarm. "Sakura-chan would never…"
"She would, if she thought it would help her friends." He sat on the couch beside her, and handed her the jar. It had an embossed design of angel wings going around the whole length of the glass.
"The card is called The Yearn. She called me about it the other day."
"The Yearn? What does it do?"
"It takes our consciousness to this other world or dimension. We are trapped here unless we help each other fulfill tasks that correspond with what we yearn to do with the other person. Tasks could be as simple as opening up to one another about certain topics or issues. Or it could be experiences we wanted to share with each other. Apparently she tried this out with Syaoran a few weeks ago and got excellent results. So now, it looks like she's trying it on us."
Eriol glanced at Tomoyo. She kept her head down, fingers lightly touching the smooth stones.
"The pebbles you are holding are our tasks. I assume that the blue ones are mine and the purple ones are yours. The pebble turns into glass once a "yearning" is fulfilled. We wake up as soon as all the pebbles are turned into glass." Eriol picked up a blue hued glass sphere. "One of mine has changed. I always always did want to spend more alone time with you," he added wistfully.
"And since we're here, your yearning has been fulfilled?"
Eriol nodded. "I do see where she was going with this. It would force people to resolve issues since they couldn't really go anywhere."
"I don't think we have issues Eriol-kun." Tomoyo said, still confused. "Did Sakura-chan think we have issues?"
"I think she thinks we're in denial." Eriol said grinning mischievously, making her blush.
He stood up and got paper and pencils from a nearby desk. "Here Daidouji-san. Write down what you think your yea... tasks are. I will make a list too. The sooner we cross them off, the sooner we can get back."
Tomoyo nodded and began writing.
