Prologue: A Quick catch-up
Legends, stories scattered through time. Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the exploits of heroes and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants, byproducts, of a forgotten past, or at least, that's how it used to be. Until Ruby Rose and her friends made it all unforgettable and people of all shapes and sizes entered a new era of peace, one not held back by an immortal being putting an end to it, no relics that had to have been constantly protected, that being said there were still things worth fighting for. Grimm, although uncontrolled and naturally birthed now, was still a threat to everyone's safety, and political unrest grew throughout the lands of Remnant. Yang, now a teacher at the rebuilt Beacon academy is trying to teach a new generation of huntsmen. Weiss is in Atlas, running for a seat in the senate, trying to put an end to the stigma on the Schnee family name. Blake is off the grid, no one having heard from her in a long time, many assuming she had died. Ruby takes odd jobs as a huntress to support herself and her daughter, one Bailey Rose. Nora and Ren, soon after everything had transpired, retired and are living happily together, raising a son of their own. Jaune had died fighting what people assumed was Salem, although the official reason is yet to be seen, and it's what left Ruby alone with their daughter. That brings us to Patch and a sixteen year old Bailey, getting ready for her first day at Beacon Academy.
"Are you sure you have everything you need? I can't hold your hand forever hun-" Ruby says before being cut off by a short tempered, and short heighted Bailey, long black and red hair flowing down her body.
"Mom! I'm fine!" Bailey says confidently before mumbling "Besides, I haven't needed you to hold my hand since I nearly set the house on fire making cookies."
Ruby simply looks at Bailey and sighs "I know, it's just… I worry, you're not exactly the, well, best around new people, but hey! If you need anyone you'll have Yang teaching combat!"
Bailey smirks "I also have the added weight of being YOUR daughter and having YOUR semblance… Or at least a very similar one"
Ruby stares her down "You're more than a name my little petal, and if you want we can make your transcripts look like you're a different person…" Ruby gets lost in a train of thought
"Too late now, plus I look too much like you to not be recognized. You saved the world, big deal, if you keep talking to me I'm gonna be late to my air shuttle to the school" Bailey speeds to the kitchen and grabs a couple pieces of toast and a water bottle "Okay love you bye!"
Chapter One: A Petal Doesn't Fall Far From a Rose
Bailey boards the airship that is to take her to Beacon Academy, jittery and alone she sits down on one of the benches, hoping not to get motion sick like her father before her. Bailey pulls out her scroll and opens it to the tune of many buzzes, most just text messages wishing her good luck from family and friends whom she had met over the years, but one in particular caught her eye, of course, it was from her mother
In your hurry to get out the door you left your entire suitcase and Ik you almost forgot RoseCutter. That thing is special, you built it. I'll bring your luggage to you later tonight so you can actually sleep comfortably
Bailey let out a loud sigh, it was, unfortunately, typical of her to leave things where they shouldn't be. "Why today" she mutters before stretching her back out, getting the attention of a few of the kids on board, one of which, a Rabbit Faunus, hops onto the bench beside her.
"You seem to have light luggage." She says, smirking at the smaller of the two ladies. Bailey looks right up at her before immediately looking away, face redder than a tomato. "Someone shy?" the girl asks. Bailey shakes her head, buried on her knees "I'll take that as a yes." she states matter-of-factly "My name's Olivia, Olivia Scarlatina" Bailey looks up at her, still a bit shy and reddened.
'Beautiful' was all Bailey could think, but all she could say was "I-I'm Bailey Rose!" her complexion brightens up, although she still seems very red "I uhhh, like you" she then slaps herself lightly "I mean-" this gained a hearty laugh from Olivia, she looks bailey up and down, takes her scroll out and snaps a quick picture of the already embarrassed Bailey. Bailey seems confused until a hard light projection of Bailey shows up on the ground, greatly detailed and in the color of her aura. Bailey is left in awe "Is that your weapon?! Did you build it yourself? It's so cool!" If anything, Bailey had inherited her mother's love for weapons and all things mechanical and technical, Olivia took notice of this and laughed again, causing a stir of butterflies in her stomach
"Well it's nice to meet you Bailey Rose! If you'd like I'm sure we can be great friends!" Olivia smiles at Bailey, who returns the favor by going red at the sight of the bunny eared girl, causing another eruption of laughter before they're interrupted by a holographic video message, presumably pre-recorded beginning with a familiar…
"Helloooo first years" the abrasive blonde says into the camera "My name is Yang Xiao Long! Your combat instructor at the new and improved Beacon Academy! Now, as you all know our world is in an unprecedented time of peace, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to fight for. The remnants of Salem's army still lurk and there are still people to be protected all over this world that we call home." Yang points towards the camera "And you first years are the first generation of hunters born into and through this new age! With that comes some responsibilities however, this is orientation week, so I suggest you get to know as many people possible, and make sure not to hold anything back. See all of you there!" The video then fizzles out and most students rush to the window to look at the newly built Beacon. Clock tower as tall as the sky, buildings stretching for blocks on the massive campus put aside at the end of the war, as was the same for every academy that had fallen, Beacon, Atlas, Shade, even Haven, the only school not demolished in the final fight got new budgets and campuses so that they could rebuild and reconnect with the world. With that the airship began to make its descent to the ground, and Bailey had officially gone on public transport without spewing up her lunch, which she also hadn't eaten at this point. When it landed Bailey made a B-Line for Yang's classroom, just to have some familiarity, ignoring the people looking at her and keeping her head down, almost as to hide the similarities between her and her parents, as she walked through the hallowed halls, at least in the spiritual sense, of those before her and those who'll come after her.
She then reached her destination, Room 1312, Yang Xiao Long's combat facility, opening the door she found herself in a very familiar setting, not because of the classroom, but because of the smell. Her Aunt's house always had a very distinct smell, and feel, and it was supposedly transferred over to her new classroom at Beacon Academy. Bailey walked around the classroom, rows of spectator stands and a small combat arena at the bottom. Bailey took out her weapon, unsheathing it. A sword with a black blade and crimson holder with a red cartridge loader for a semi-automatic rifle that it transforms into. She begins slicing the air. Yang, in her office, takes note and walks out from her lesson planning for the next few days.
"Well well well, if it isn't my little niece trying out her weapon on thin air! Now that's what I like to call combat exp"air"ience!" Yang starts to snort from laughter at her own joke, causing Bailey to roll her eyes.
"Yang! I'm not little, I'm sixteen years old-"
Yang cuts her off "Uhp Bubup you may be sixteen, BUT you're also the shortest one in our family in generations, AND you might be more skilled in combat than most of your peers, but you have no clue how to deal with people, so yes in a sense, you are little" Yang jokingly states "Anyways, what brings my favorite niece into my humble abode?"
Bailey glares at her "I'm your only niece for one. And secondly…" She pauses "I don't want to deal with people unless Olivia is the said person…"
"Who's Olivia?" Yang asks longingly
"No one you need to know about Yang," Bailey says annoyed, "I guess I should probably go to the common area… Wish me luck! Love you, Bye!"
Bailey speeds out of Yang's classroom, not wanting to divulge further on her little crush to her Aunt of all people
The legends we see around us don't change, and they never really disappear. They grow until nothing is left to grow from, and after dawn has set on one legend, it's time for a new one to begin. Gods, Monsters, Huntsmen, Huntresses, Store Clerks. Everyone lives under the same cracked moon, everyone has their own cracks and that's what needs to be explored in life.
