The Heart of the Game

Chapter 2

"Please bro, you're trying to tell me that you and Madison have been friends since you were basically in preschool and you haven't bothered to tap that yet." His friend and teammate Devon asked him as they were changing back into their regular school clothes.

Jamie rolled his eyes as he shut his locker tightly. He was really getting tired of his teammates asking him that question. He really had no clue why him and Maddie couldn't just be friends without people thinking they were something more. There was no doubt that Madison was gorgeous and yeah, they did have a thing when they were kids, but that was over and done with and now they could just be friends without all that drama following them. They knew that they would never happen. Now if only they could convince everybody else.

"That's exactly what I'm saying, and can you spare me with the whole tap that situation. Madison means more to me than just a fuck and run,"

Devon shrugged his shoulder, collecting his bag from his locker as he walked up to Jamie with a look of determination on his face.

"Listen bro, I'm only looking out for your best interest. I know for a fact that Maddie likes you and if you don't want to get involved with her then maybe you should think about getting involved with someone. We're young and dumb and this is the time of our lives so wd should enjoy it while we can."

"I don't need a girlfriend to be happy."

"Who said anything about a girlfriend? If you're not down for commitment, then just get a girl who's willing to suck your dick. God knows there's plenty of them around there who will be more than willing to do it."

"I'm not discussing this with you. I'm going to take things at my own pace and not add any pressure on myself. Especially during basketball season."

"Whatever you say man. Just don't bitch and moan when you don't get any tail after the season."

"Works for me. Now come on we don't want to be late for class."

"You're such a nerd. Alright. Let's go Scott."

Grabbing his backpack, Jamie followed Devon as he went out in the school hallway not really paying attention to where he was going as he smacked into another body sending whoever it was flying along with the papers they were holding. Shit. He hadn't meant to do that. His mother was always telling him he had to be careful, why didn't he listen to her more often?

"What the fuck is your damage douche bag?" the girl asked looking up at him with narrowed eyes. Her pants and shirt soaked with the drink she had been carrying. Shit. He had done it now.

"I am so sorry. Here, let me help you up. I'll even get you a change of clothes if that's what you need."

"Don't touch me, you jackass. I don't need your help. You've done enough." She sneered as her friend helped her up. Jamie had no idea who the girl he was talking to was, but he did notice her friend. Jameson Hayes. One of the fly girls from the cheerleading squad.

"Come on Talia. I'll help you with your blouse. I'll see you on the court James."

"Who was that?" Jamie asked when they were gone as Devon walked up behind him.

"Talia Hayes. She's Jameson's cousin. Just moved here too. Geez Jamie you really know how to make quite the first impression."

"I didn't mean to run into her. I even tried to apologize to her, but she just wasn't having it."

"That's just who she is dude. Don't take it so personally."

"You know that's impossible for me. I just wish I could do something for her to show her that I'm sorry."

"You want my advice?"

"Not really, but I'm pretty sure you'll give it to me anyway."

"Leave well enough alone. If the rumors about Talia are true than she's not a girl to be fucked with. Now come on. Let's get to class."

Jamie nodded not willing to argue as he wondered how the hell he was going to get out of this one.
