Hi everyone! Welcome to "Reminds Me of the Clear Blue Sky"! I do not any of the Dragon Prince characters they all belong to the writers and the Dreamworks company! It's just my job to completely change the storyline to how I want it! I hope you enjoy "Reminds Me of the Clear Blue Sky" and you'll leave a like, review, or favorite me to read my other pieces!
Please enjoy!:)
Runaan was living the dream; star quarterback for the Prince High School Dragons, straight-A student, girls falling all over him, and scholarships to so many schools that he could hardly decide from. His best friends kept trying to persuade him into a school by the one they're planning on attending, but he still has all of his senior year to decide where he's going. The point was, his life was perfect, and he didn't want to change anything…well, almost anything.
Runaan, Tiadrin, and Lain sat in the library before school as Lain crammed some last-minute homework in. "I told you to do that last night." Tiadrin chirps as she and Runaan threw balls of paper at each other; currently, Runaan's best shot was a tiny piece into Tiadrin's ear, and her best shot was a small piece that still went undiscovered in his hair.
"I know what you told me, Tia! I fell asleep! I can't help that!" Lain cried as he struggled to finish a certain math problem.
Runaan glanced at it for a moment while simultaneously dodging a paper ball from Tiadrin. "1.43256i." He informed his friend.
Lain stopped his furious typing on the calculator and looked up at the football player before pressing a few more buttons and smacking his head on the table. "Why are you so infuriatingly smart!"
Runaan chucked a ball that smacked Tiadrin square in the forehead, "it's a gift Lain."
"Yeah well, I wish you at least wouldn't flex so hard," Lain grumbled as he finished and slammed his textbook closed.
"SHHHHHHHH!" All three teens jumped and at least looked sheepish as the librarian scolded them and gave them the stink eye.
"Do you think it's time we make our fashionably quick exit?" Tiadrin murmurs as the old woman continues to glare at them.
"I agree." The two boys jinx each other as they scramble to get their stuff together and high-tail it out of the library.
Runaan is the first one out and turns to taunt his friends for being slow, but smacks into another student and they fall to the ground. "Runaan!" Tiadrin and Lain run over to him to check if he's ok.
Runaan waves them off and sits up, "man, you'd think I could take a hit better than that."
The other student groans and Runaan remembers that he actually hit someone, "oh hey! Dude, I'm sorry I wasn't watching where I was going!" He pushes Lain out of the way so he can see who he hit and his eyes widen as his blue eyes meet gold.
The other boy blinked owlishly before chuckling, "no it's alright I wasn't watching where I was going, are you alright?"
Runaan nods quickly, "y-yes, I'm fine! Of course, I'm f-fine I play football for god's sake I should probably be able t-to take a hit. I mean, n-not that you couldn't put any football player to shame b-because you totally could I mean wow! That was a hard hit and you took it better than most of the players on the team!"
Tiadrin and Lain's eyes go wide as they watch the interaction. In all of their years of knowing him, they had never heard Runaan stutter or puke up word vomit like he just did. He had been propositioned by super model-worthy women and he didn't even bat an eye, but now he could barely talk!
Ethari laughs as he begins to pick up all of his spilled sketchbooks and pencils, "well thank you Runaan. But I think I'll leave getting knocked down a hundred times in an hour to you, it's not my style."
The flustered football player snagged a few pencils out of Ethari's reach and handed them back to the other student. "O-oh of course, yeah."
When all of his stuff was in order Ethari stood up and brushed his shaggy black hair out of his eyes. "Thanks for helping me pick all this up Runaan, I'll see you around." He gave him a little wave before walking off.
"Y-yeah, see you!" Runaan calls back dumbly before sighing and turning to his friends.
Runaan jumps when they're both extremely close to him. "What was that?" Lain asks as his eyes narrow.
"What was what?" Runaan asks as he crosses his arms.
"That!" Tiadrin points after Ethari, "you could barely make out one intelligible sentence around him! I've never seen you so flustered in. My. Life!"
"I have no idea what you're talking about." Runaan shrugs as he walks to his locker.
"You're still blushing and you want to claim you have "no idea" what I'm talking about!? Seriously!?"
Runaan shakes his head and his two friends groan. This is the first time they've seen him show interest in anyone, they need to find out more!
That day at lunch, the football team has a meeting about the game that night, so Tiadrin and Lain seek out their target. They find him in the art room, drawing something in his sketchpad. Lain knocks so they give the guy a little bit of a warning before they barge in, and Tiadrin sees him hide whatever he was working on. "Hey, Ethari!" She grits happily as she bounds into the room.
He smiles genuinely when he sees the couple, "hey Tiadrin, hi Lain."
Lain sits in the chair across from Ethari and Tiadrin takes a seat on the edge of the table. "So Ethari, we were wondering something."
"Yes?" He pushes his bangs out of his face as he looks between the two.
Tiadrin plays with a lock of her hair, "what do you think of Runaan?" She asks nonchalantly.
"Runaan? He's very nice." Ethari replies, curious about what they want.
"Yes, but is there anything else you think about him?" Lain asks as he raises a brow.
Ethari cocks his head, "I'm not sure what you mean?"
Tiadrin grins and leans forward, "we mean, do you think he's nice as a friend, or nice as in you want to climb him like a tree?"
Ethari's eyes widen comically as he chokes on his own saliva. The couple waits as the poor boy recovers, "as in WHAT!?" Ethari repeats incredulously.
"Do. You. Want. To. Climb. Runaan. Like. A-."
"OK, I GET IT!" Ethari didn't know if he could handle hearing her say that again, his face already felt like it was on fire.
Tiadrin grins, "well? Do you?"
"I-I don't know!"
Lain laughs, "really? You've never imagined him asking you out? Going on a date? Getting into his-."
"Stop that!" Ethari scolds, trying to tame his furious blush.
"…car." Lain finishes with an evil grin. "What did you think I was going to say Ethari?"
Ethari grumbles and rests his head on his arms. "What did you say, Ethari?" Tiadrin asks as she leans forward to hear him.
"Yes, ok? Yes, I have imagined going out with Runaan, but it will never happen! Girls chase Runaan like he's a prime rib in a famine! I can't compete with any of them!"
Tiadrin took pity on him because he sounded absolutely miserable. "Well, why do you think we're asking?"
"Because I was too obvious about how much I like him when I ran into him so he sent you two to tell me to back off before he's too embarrassed for being liked by the awkward gay kid?"
Lain's eyebrows raise almost to his hairline, "dude, really?"
Ethari shrugs, "I've heard it all before so go ahead and tell me whatever slur he used and how gross it is that I'm into the quarterback just like every cliche girl here."
Tiadrin got off the table and sat next to Ethari before resting a hand on his arm, "oh honey, no."
Ethari picked his head up, "then what? He politely declines and he's sorry that he doesn't swing that way? That's one of the nicer put-downs I've heard from a guy."
Lain shook his head, "no, not that either."
The artist looked between the two again, "then what? Oh! Is it that he didn't actually know but you two do so you're telling me that he liked some blonde anorexic girl?"
Tiadrin couldn't help but laugh, "no, he most certainly does not."
Ethari sighs, "ok, then just tell me why you were asking since I keep striking out here."
The two grin, "now that we've discovered this, I won't tell you." Ethari's eyes widen and he's about to protest when Tiadrin cuts him off. "I won't tell you, but I will tell you what you're going to do."
