The Heart of the Game

Chapter 3

"Bad day?" Madison asked as she jumped on Jamie's bed, popcorn bowl in hand as Jaime unpaused the movie he had been watching.

"Is it that obvious?"

"What happened? Tell your bestie all about it."

"Do you know Talia Hayes?" he asked as Madison nodded.

"Of course, I do, I feel like everyone does, but what about her?"

"I pissed her off today."

"Why would you do a stupid thing like that?"

"I have no idea who she is, and it was an accident. I didn't mean to piss her off. How doomed am I on a scale from one to ten?"

"About fifteen."

"Fuck." he groaned putting his face in her hair. It always smelled pretty good.

"You'll get through it. Just try apologizing to her."

"I already did."

"Damn. She must have been in a mood today."

"Is she always so- "

"Embracive?"

"Yeah. That."

"From what I've seen, yes. The only time I've seen her soft around anyone is Jameson. Maybe try talking to her before you try to apologize to Talia again."

"Maybe I will. Thanks for the advice Mads." He smiled as his bedroom door flung open revealing his mother. Why had she just barged in like that?

"James Lucas Scott, how many times have I told you that if you have company over to leave your-oh hey Madison, I didn't know that the girl he had in here was you."

"Hello Mrs. Scott. Sorry for the scare. Jamie just invited me over to watch this new Netflix original with him. I hope that's alright."

"Not at all." His mothered answered with a smile as she turned to address Jamie. "Remember to keep the door open Jamie."

"I will."

Smiling his mother left the room leaving him and Madison alone as Madison smiled at him.

"Your mom is the best you know, that right?"

"I know."

"So, are you going to play the movie or what?"

"It's like you don't know me at all." Jamie answered unpausing the movie as he and Madison enjoyed their time together.
