For hours, Shego had been tossing and turning in an attempt to get to sleep.
She'd never been an insomniac before, sleep came easy to her most nights. But some blue dork had to go and get himself abducted by aliens. And, much to her surprise, she'd found herself genuinely afraid about loosing him forever. The relief she felt seeing him safe on the Lowardian ship had been... overwhelming. And confusing. It was more than just being relieved to see her boss safe, and it seemed Kimmie saw right through her, calling out her feelings for him.
Shego shook her head, angry at herself. She flipped over onto her side again, still unable to find a comfortable position on the bed.
Her mind drifted to when his vines had pulled her close to him. She was embarrassed in the moment, unsure what to do other than awkwardly smile. But the awe in his eyes when he had looked at her beforehand made her feel like she was the most beautiful woman in the world. And if she was being honest, being pressed up against him wasn't all that bad...
She couldn't help but imagine his embrace. His arms wrapped around her... loving and comforting...
Shego's eyes burst open and she grumbled out loud. She wasn't supposed to be feeling like this! For her boss nonetheless! Pulling her pillow out from under her head, she covered her face with it, growling and trying to block out the thoughts. 'You need sleep, that's all.' she told herself. After a good night's sleep she would feel better, and he wouldn't be on her mind anymore, right?
'No.' That wasn't it, sleep wouldn't stop these thoughts. Tomorrow, she would wake up and have to go back to their normal lives, pretending like she didn't feel anything for him.
If she had feelings for him, she had to say something, whether that meant rejection or not. At least maybe then she could get some damn sleep.
Shego, clad in pajamas with her hair up in a loose ponytail, nervously shuffled towards Drakken's room, stopping right in front of his door. She lifted her shaking hand to knock, but she stopped, the quiet noises of the television in the living room catching her attention. 'Hm ... It isn't like him to be up this late.' She realized, growing curious.
She frowned, giving herself one last chance to change her mind. She could turn back now and avoid whatever awkward conversation she was about to have.
'No, this has to happen.' She reminded herself, shaking her head and walking into the living area. On the couch sat Drakken, yellow flower petals still framing his head. He had obviously given up on plucking them out. His body was barely illuminated by the flickering images on the TV screen. He was also in his pajamas holding up a glass of his "cocoa-moo" as his eyes remained focused on the TV. He hadn't even noticed her walk in.
Shego took a deep breath, attempting to calm her rapidly quickening heartbeat. "Hey, Doc." She said softly, watching with amusement he jumped slightly and turned to face her with a small gasp.
"Shego! Don't scare me like that." He scowled, "I could've spilled my cocoa-moo." Drakken set the cup down on the table beside the sofa, turning his attention back to her. "What are you doing awake?"
"I... I think we need to talk about something." She said, and his brow furrowed in concern. "Mind if I sit?"
Drakken nodded, watching her closely as she took a seat on the other side of the couch and sat in silence for a few moments. She couldn't meet his gaze, feeling nervous as she considered different ways she could start the conversation.
After what felt like an eternity in silence, she finally chose what to say.
"These last few days have been crazy, huh?"
His confusion only growing, he nodded. "Yeah, being abducted by aliens and saving the world is a new type of crazy for me..." He paused, studying her for a second, "But I'm... really glad you came to rescue me. I was really scared."
"I was scared too." She blurted out, not even thinking before she spoke and instantly regretting it. A light blush crept onto her cheeks, and she was grateful that the lighting was dim.
"You? Scared?" Drakken asked, clearly in disbelief. "Of what?"
Welp, she'd done it now. She might as well just spill everything if she was gonna blurt out every thought she had. Cursing herself, and deciding there was no way to lie her way out of this, she spoke up again, quietly.
"I was-" Shego hesitated, looking down at her hands, that were folded in her lap. "I was scared of never seeing you again."
Looking up slowly, she saw him blink his widened eyes in surprise. "Are you saying you care about me, Shego?" He asked her. Drakken's expression remained confused, but she saw his lips raise into small, warm smile.
She crossed her arms defensively and looked away from him. "I mean, yeah. I guess so." Out of the corner of her eye she saw his smile grow, and she let her arms relax, resting her hands on the couch below her.
Sitting up and scooting closer to her, Drakken hesitantly took her hand in his own. His gentle touch sent a small jolt of electricity through her entire body, and she turned her attention back to him.
"I care about you too, Shego." She couldn't help but smile at the sincerity in his voice, and without a second thought, she lifted her free hand up to his cheek and leaned in. He leaned in as well, meeting her halfway with a soft, warm kiss. There was a short moment of bliss before he pulled back suddenly, his eyes wide with shock and worry as he left go of her hand.
"Oh- I- I'm so sorry! I shouldn't have-" Drakken's reddened face was twisted in fear as he fumbled for words, "I'm didn't mean to... Believe me... I-"
Shego smirked with amusement as her lips still tingled from their brief, fleeting kiss. "And what exactly are you apologizing for?" She interrupted, crossing her arms across her chest.
"W-we aren't- You..." Drakken couldn't seem to finish any of his statements. "We.. we aren't a couple... and-"
"Wow, Doc, you are so old fashioned." She grinned, quite enjoying his embarrassed ramblings. "We have to be a couple to kiss?" Watching his brows furrow in confusion, she laughed lightly and decided it was probably time to clear things up.
Heart beating faster in anticipation, she took a deep breath. "Okay. Dr. D... I have feelings for you." Her voice came out in a soft, genuine tone that Drakken had very rarely heard from her. He took in a deep breath, her sincerity appearing to give him a small boost of confidence.
"I... I have feelings for you as well." He admitted, looking away nervously. "I have... f-for awhile... actually."
This time, it was her turn to reach for his hand, the anxiety she felt beginning to dissipate. "Good. So we can be a couple, that sound good to you?" She spoke very nonchalantly, desperately trying to avoid any more awkwardness in the conversation.
"But-" Drakken's eyes grew wide, "W-wait... don't I have to ask you on a date, or something?"
She groaned, but her small smile didn't waver. "Like I said, Doc, you're old-fashioned. You know I don't like all that mushy stuff." She crawled over to him , resting one hand against the arm of the couch and the other hand on the back of his neck. She pulled his face closer to hers, meeting him in another brief kiss. "I like you," Shego spoke as she pulled away, "And you like me, so we can give this a try... If that's what you want, anyway."
Drakken smiled genuinely, his heart pounding loudly as he delicately reached up to cup her cheek. He looked into her dark, shining green eyes. "Yes, it is." He answered truthfully.
As soon as his response escaped his lips, she closed her eyes and met him in a kiss again, pressing herself up against him. As the kiss lingered, he finally had a chance to respond to it. Wrapping his arms around her and pulling her flush against him, he deepened the kiss.
After what could've been minutes of kissing, Shego pulled away slightly, breathless. She rested her forehead against his for a moment , opening her eyes to see him looking at her with an adoring smile.
"Is... is this real?" Drakken asked, pulling back slightly and stuttering in disbelief. "I'm not dreaming... am I?"
Shego shook her head, moving her hand up to run her fingers through his hair. "You aren't dreaming." He hummed in happiness at her touch, and she crashed their lips together once again.
Sleeping was the last thing on her mind right now.
