Missing Her
By Major Mike Powell III
Himawari and Wakaba. The tech genius and shut-in, and the swordswoman lover of all cute things of the Vivid Team. They were on a date on a perfect Saturday afternoon that was now transitioning to evening.
The day still had a few hours left in it, so the two superheroines in love decided to enjoy a bit of sunbathing on the beach just off the road by the shopping district.
"...Himawari-chan?" Wakaba said softly to her sweet, beloved Sunflower as the two rested on their cute bottoms, sitting on the fine white sand, looking absolutely lovely as can be in their casual Saturday best.
"...hm...?" Himawari just gazed at the ocean and its calm waves and the Manifest Engine off in the distance.
"You know I love you. You know you can tell me anything, Himawari-chan," the greenette girl probed, gently tested the waters of what lay behind Himawari's attitude as of the last couple of days.
Melancholic.
That was the only way that the swordswoman of the Vivid Team could think of to describe Himawari's mood and attitude throughout the previous week.
"...yeah...I know, Wakaba-chan. I appreciate it. I myself...don't...know what's happening with me. I don't know if something's wrong...but I just feel...I feel...kind of...sad..." Himawari spoke in her signature soft, calm semi-monotone yet lovely voice.
Wakaba blinked twice and followed her beloved honey-blonde girlfriend as she stepped up slowly to the edge of the calm waters lapping at the sun was beginning to get close to setting. It bathed the ocean and Himawari in its light. The amber-eyed girl turned slightly to look back at Wakaba.
The green-eyed girl gasped softly and she stepped up to her girlfriend, the water now reaching past the girls' ankles as they stepped into the surf.
"Himawari-chan-!"
"I'm sorry, Wakaba-chan! I'm sorry...I miss her..." Wakaba gently yet firmly gripped Himawari's shaking shoulders as the honey-blonde half of Vivid Yellow leaned into Wakaba's chest, nuzzling her sleeveless t-shirt-clad collarbone.
"...You miss...her? You mean...?" Wakaba needed to be sure.
Himawari nodded and hiccupped, trying to blink back her tears.
"I miss Rei-chan...I can't explain it...I just...one day started...remembering...remembering when she and I spent together...what she said to me, what she needed to do, how she opened up to me...here on this same beach..." Himawari sniffled and looked up, her beautiful, melancholic eyes gazing deep into Wakaba's own sad yet understanding eyes.
"Wakaba-chan...I love you so much...but...but I want Rei-chan to be here with you and I...I don't know why! I think I love her...Wakaba-chan..." Himawari let off a soft gasp but then, she tenderly cradled Himawari's cheeks and landed a soft, sweet, tender feather-like kiss on the honey-blonde's lips.
Himawari's eyes widened slightly, but then fluttered shut. Her tears fell freely as she embraced Wakaba around the waist and pulled her ever closer.
"It's Ok, Himawari-chan...I think we all, all of us, Akane-chan and Aoi-chan, you and I...we all love Rei-chan and want her back...I can't explain why, either. It's like we're all connected somehow...but I'm sure, Himawari-chan..." Wakaba then smiled sweetly at her beloved.
"Rei-chan will be back. After all...she never said goodbye." She winked.
Himawari's cute mouth formed an "o" shape and then, she wiped away at hers with her hands. She sniffled one last time and nodded.
She smiled.
"She only said "see you later." Yeah. You're right, Wakaba-chan...thank you. Thank you so much. I love you." Himawari nuzzled Wakaba's neck and then, they shared another sweet, gentle kiss.
The Yellow and Green-themed members of the Vivid Team then joined hands and made their way back onto the sand and helped each other dry off their wet feet and calves, before sharing another kiss while bathed in the last waning rays of the sun as it touched down on the horizon.
"C'mon. Let's go home. Sleepover at my dojo~?"
"That sounds nice~"
They giggled and then headed back, their hearts filled with their reassurance and iron-clad belief that their mysterious, sweet friend would return sooner rather than later.
