Nene looked at her crush dead in the eye and decided it was best she continued her lie. He has a girlfriend after all and…
Teru would understand.
"I did!" She smiled cheerfully imagining the person she had confessed to was him and not Teru. "We're together now!" She stopped dead in her tracks at how bad a lie like that could get.
She didn't notice Amane's unreadable expression. "That's great Yashiro-san, I'm happy for you!" He smiled, he was genuinely happy for her, as long as she was happy that's all that mattered, even if it meant he had to sacrifice his own.
Nene felt bad for continuing her lie. As long as nobody else knew then Teru's reputation would be fine right? "Amane-kun! Don't tell anyone okay? It's a secret." She placed her finger on her lips as she winked at him.
He prayed to god for self-restraint because he was sure he almost pinned Nene to the wall in order to kiss her cute lips. "Alright, I won't tell anyone."
For some odd reason, Nene was hoping for Amane to pin her up against a wall and kiss her. "Thanks!" She really hated her pervy mind lately.
Amane hated his perverted mind. If Tsukasa found out he'd make fun of him. "Well… I also came here for another reason." He wanted to be close to Nene even if it meant…
"Oh? What's that?"
"I was wondering if we can be friends."
Nene hated that, sure she should be happy he wants to be her friend but she wanted more! She wanted Amane to love her! "Sure! We can be friends Yugi-senpai." She faked happiness at the idea.
She didn't like being friend-zoned. She always thought that wasn't a thing but now she kind of feels that's what's happening.
Amane didn't believe in the friendzone but he wondered if this is what it felt like. He hated himself for even asking but he wanted to be there for her… real badly.
They exchanged contact information and went about their day.

When Nene told Aoi everything that had happened her friend gave her a judgy look.
"Are you serious Nene-chan!? You should have just confessed!"
"He has a girlfriend, Aoi-chan!" She snapped, they could only be friends, that's what her friends don't understand.
Aoi sighed in frustration. "Not only that but you got Teru involved even more!"
Aoi has a point there, Nene really messed up. "I know! I'm going to have to explain to Teru later today." She really hoped he'd understand.
"Explain to Teru-nii what?"
Both girls turned to see Kou with Mitsuba behind him holding some snacks.
"Ah… nothing." Nene laughed nervously as she avoided all eye contact.
Mitsuba rolled his eyes. "She did more damage didn't she?"
"Yup." Aoi agreed.
Nene looked at them both completely shocked.
Traitors!
Kou was utterly confused.
"Are you and Kou friends?" Nene asked, deciding to change the topic.
Mitsuba spits out his drink. "Me? Cute me? With hella lame traffic safety earring? As if!"
Kou deadpanned. "We are but he doesn't want to admit it."
Mitsuba glared at him. "We are not!"
"We are too!"
"Are not!"
"Are too."
And so the argument continued and in the end, Nene and Aoi were left wondering if they were friends or enemies.
As they walked back to class Nene noticed Amane and his girlfriend talking to each other, walking side by side. It hurt to see but she tried her best to just forget it.
She was starting to think romance was overrated.
"Oh! Yashiro-san!" Amane waved at her. "I want you to meet Sakura-chan!" He grabbed her arm which made her heart skip a beat.
Reality was cruel to her considering her crush was literally introducing her to his girlfriend.
"Nanamine Sakura." She did a curtsy as if Nene was a princess. She couldn't help but blush and admire Sakura's beauty.
Wait this was her rival! Why is she feeling all weird?
"Ah, Yashiro Nene." She bowed down and blushed a bit.
"I was hoping to meet you, I want to invite you to the broadcasting club later today in order to apologize for the inconveniences my friend Tsukasa may have caused." She gave her a literal invite, it was fancy too!
Tea party at the broadcasting club!
Free tea and snacks for everyone!
Nene felt rather happy but also really awkward.
"Of course I'll be there." Curse her niceness, this is going to be the most awkward party ever.
Aoi watched feeling pity for her dear friend for finding herself in this situation. She needs to plan Mitsuba's death soon it seems.
When Nene showed Mitsuba the invitation during lunch his jaw dropped.
"No fucking way! That's so unfair, I want to be invited too." He pouted as everyone deadpanned.
"Are you sure you want to go Senpai?" Kou asked, who seemed to slowly be making his way into their friend group.
Nene sighed and she stared at the ground. "They want to apologize so it's not like I can't go."
Aoi nodded. "You have a point there, just go, have them apologize, enjoy a bit and then leave."
Nene agreed with Aoi, she didn't have to stay that long and she was sure they would understand anyway. How bad could it be?
1 hour later…
Nene found herself in a strange position as she was seated in the middle of Sakura and Amane. She felt extremely nervous thinking this was the most awkward thing she's ever done. She and Amane were friends now so it was okay right?
It didn't feel okay at all…
"Yashiro-san have some tea."
Ah yes, the infamous tea Mitsuba was talking about, she doubted it was as amazing as he claimed-
Holy shit this was the best tea she's ever had.
Sakura, noticing Nene enjoying her tea, smiled at her feeling rather relieved. "So Yashiro-san."
Nene turned her attention to Sakura as she poured herself more tea.
Sakura grabbed her hand. "On behalf of the whole broadcasting club, we would like to apologize for Tsukasa's childish behavior."
Tsukasa who was in the middle of eating a biscuit glared at Sakura. "I'm not a child!"
"Stop acting like one." Amane glared at his twin.
Natsuhiko scoffed. "Tsukasa is the ultimate baby."
Tsukasa threw a biscuit at Natsuhiko. "Shut up."
Sakura sighed as an argument broke out. "Ignore the boys… they're a handful sometimes."
Nene couldn't help but feel bad for this girl, having to deal with boys. "I understand… Mitsuba can be wild sometimes too, he gets me in all kinds of situations." She sipped her tea not realizing she was starting to talk too much.
"Why is that?" Sakura asked curiously.
Nene stopped and thought before speaking. She really can't blame Mitsuba anymore, there was something in this tea that's making her want to spill all her damn secrets. She looked over to the boys to see Amane holding Tsukasa back from hurting Natsuhiko. She wondered if it was okay… just this once…
To be truthful.
"You won't tell anyone right?" She looked at her- seriousness all over her expression.
Sakura was surprised but nodded.
"The truth is I…"
I'm in love with your boyfriend.
"I'm…"

"It's okay Yashiro-san, take your time." She smiled at her, which made Nene stop in her tracks.
She can't do that to her… Nene isn't a cruel person. "Well I'm in a secret relationship with Minamoto-senpai and it's now all thanks to Mitsuba." She laughed nervously.
Sakura went wide-eyed momentarily, Nene didn't notice her side-eyeing Amane. "I see… that's good Yashiro-san, I'm happy for you."
Except Nene wasn't happy at all. She wanted to be with Amane… perhaps she could be… secretly…
Wait no! She's not like that! She's never been the type to steal another girl's boyfriend. What is wrong with her brain today?
"What do you think of Amane-kun?" Sakura asked suddenly.
Nene felt her heart skip a beat. "Yugi-senpai is really nice, we're friends now!" She also wanted to be more than that and possibly kiss and do other things like going inside the closet and-
Woah, woah, back up, what the hell is she thinking!?
She felt her face heat up, she was glad nobody seemed to notice.
Sakura nodded, satisfied with the answer. "I'm glad, he doesn't make many friends, Tsukasa was kind of clingy too so you can blame him."
Tsukasa who had overheard stuck his tongue at Sakura. "I was not! Don't make up lies!"
Amane facepalmed. "But they're not lies, you didn't even want to join the broadcasting club because I wasn't going to join."
Nene jumped at this revelation.
So Yugi-senpai isn't part of the club, his brother is.
Tsukasa pouted as he practically jumped on Amane. "But Amane! We always do things together!!" He whined like a child.
Amane sighed. "Yeah but we're growing up, we're almost adults, Tsukasa, we have to be independent soon."
Tsukasa buried his face into Amane's hair. "I don't want to be an adult." He sounded sad.
Nene actually felt bad for him despite the bullshit he pulled yesterday.
Sakura shook her head. "Tsukasa we had this talk already."
"But I don't want to let go of Amane!" His hold on Amane got stronger, usually, Amane wouldn't mind but he knew his brother was getting upset.
Sakura got up and pulled Tsukasa off of Amane effortlessly. "Now, now, don't be that way okay? Eat some sweets." She gave him a cookie which magically seemed to get him to calm down.
He was like a kid.
Nene was impressed honestly, perhaps that's the whole reason why Amane fell in love with her. She couldn't possibly ever pull off such a stunt.
She continued drinking her tea.
"He's a baby." Amane sighed thinking of how much of a pain Tsukasa can be.
Nene giggled but quickly covered her mouth as she felt eyes on her. Amane swore he had never had a favorite sound until now.
"Anyway, I have to get going." Nene got up realizing she had overstayed her welcome.
Tsukasa looked up and smiled as an idea popped into her head. "Yashiro-san!"
Nene froze in place rather shocked that Tsukasa was calling her. "Yes?"
"Have you and Amane ever kissed?" He asked innocently.
No literally, that was the most innocent-sounding question she had ever heard ever.
Nene and Amane both blushed a deep red.
"WHAT!?" She shrieked rather loudly, she could see Sakura looking annoyed which caused her to panic. She must be really upset thinking that she'd kiss her boyfriend!
Except Sakura was actually annoyed at Tsukasa's idiocy. "Tsukasa…"
"What? I heard kisses taste like lemon! Can we kiss Sakura?" He got closer to Sakura and pointed to his lips.
Natsuhiko punched him in the head. "Shut up!"
Nene was rather mortified that Tsukasa would even ask his own brother's girlfriend to kiss him! What the hell? And why is Amane super cool about all of this??
Without thinking she merely escaped the scene completely undetected.
By the time Amane was about to walk out with Nene, he realized she was gone. He felt upset but he guessed she must have been in a hurry. They're friends now anyway, he can just text her.
Right?
…
The next day Nene explained everything to her group of friends including the last bit with Tsukasa.
"I swear he straight up asked her to kiss him!" She exclaimed as her friends went wide-eyed. "And Yugi-senpai just… stood there!"
"That's… wow, I have no words Nene-chan." Aoi was at a loss for words.
Mitsuba was about to say something until he remembered that boy Natsuhiko. "Now that I think about it… that guy Natsuhiko also called her my lady, in front of Yugi-senpai!"
"Eh!?" They all exclaimed in unison.
"Never a dull moment with you guys." Kou who was still hanging out with them decided to add his two cents. "Perhaps he trusts her?"
They all looked at Kou, it was a possibility but wouldn't it be annoying regardless?
"If that were me I would be upset." Aoi pointed out, Nene and Mitsuba nodded.
Kou sweatdropped. "Well yeah but maybe he just knows they're joking or something?"
Mitsuba shook his head. "No way, that guy Natsuhiko was clearly serious."
They all thought for a bit before Aoi pulled out her phone realizing she had a text from Akane.
From Akane:
Aoi where are you?
Aoi had an idea. "I know… let's have Akane-kun to spy on them!"
Nene went wide-eyed. "What? Spy? Didn't you guys already do that?"
Aoi shook her head. "Yeah but Mitsuba sucks at that stuff."
"Yeah, wait!" Mitsuba glared at Aoi. "Don't insult my cute self!"
Kou chuckled. "He does seem like the type to suck at that stuff."
Mitsuba hated everyone.
"Anyway Akane-kun will definitely do it! He always does anything I asked." She smiled sweetly which didn't sit right considering she was kind of using him.
"Aoi-chan…" Nene said nervously as she realized her friend really did have a not so nice tone to her. "But why do we need to spy on them anyway?" She asked, rather confused as to how they even got here.
"It's all weird you know? It just seems like something is amiss so we should find out for ourselves and save Yugi-senpai!" Aoi said as she clasped her hands together. "Let's start a new operation!"
Operation: let's unveil the secret!
Nene wasn't so sure about this. "Are you guys sure? I mean maybe it's like Kou says and they're just joking but you guys are overthinking!"
Mitsuba and Aoi glared at her.
"Daikon-senpai… don't you want to be with Yugi-senpai!?" He grabbed her shoulders and started shaking her.
Nene would normally feel upset but the idea of being with Yugi-senpai was making her not think straight. "Yes, I want to!"
"THEN LET'S DO THIS THING!" He yelled.
Next thing they know they had a meeting with Akane in a closet.
"It'll take a while but I'm sure to get results, anything for my love Aoi-chan!" He got on one knee and was looking at Aoi lovingly. "I love you Aoi! Go out with me!"
Aoi stood silent, smiling as she hummed. "Five points."
Akane felt an arrow go through his heart as tears of joy showed up on his face. "That's more points than yesterday!"
Nene, Mitsuba, and Kou watched the scene feeling weird and a little disturbed.
Akane started his work as he took out some questionable gadgets from his backpack. "I'm going to set these up in the broadcasting club tomorrow. Minamoto-senpai needs to go in there anyway so while he's not looking I'll place them around."
Truthfully this was all crazy but Nene couldn't really fight it. Even if she said no they would still go ahead and do it anyway.
Her phone vibrated which surprised her.
From Amane:
Hey I hope you're okay
Nene smiled feeling rather happy that he was worried about her. Seeing as how her friends were looking at Akane's weird gadgets she decided to answer.
To Amane:

I wanna be with my new bestie too ;D
Nene felt her heart race upon reading that. The mere fact that he wanted to be with her was enough to send her over the moon.
To Amane:

Alright! It's a date!
Nene gasped in horror as she jumped from her chair. Her friends looked at her weirdly at the sudden noises she was making.
To Amane:

OMG IGNORE THAT!
Nene fucked up, if his girlfriend read that then she'd be so damn screwed! She was blushing madly as Aoi was trying to get her attention. It wasn't working as Nene could no longer feel her god damn legs. She had stopped working, like an exe file on a computer.
On the other end, Amane was blushing madly realizing he kind of was asking her out on a date, which was bad! She's dating that idiot Minamoto Teru now!
Tsukasa turned to see his brother trying to hide his reddish face. He was confused and would usually question it but had no time, he needed to get his stuff ready.
"Let's see here…" He looked at all the questionable camera gear he had on him. Don't ask him how he got them, he doesn't remember.
He picked out one of the tiny cameras and looked at the map of the school he had drawn. He had some places marked in order to start his work. He set each camera on the marked places deciding where he would put each one. While people would say it was a bad thing what he was doing, he didn't care!
Things were about to get interesting after all.
Amane set his phone down and noticed Tsukasa doing illegal shit again. He sighed and facepalmed. "What are you doing?"
"I'm setting up devices all over the school." He stated normally. At this point the shit Tsukasa says is never normal.
"Why?" Amane looked at his twin as if he had grown two heads. "Tsukasa I swear to god." He felt a migraine.
Tsukasa rolled his eyes. "It's for the greater good Amane!"
"How!?" Amane felt stressed all of a sudden.
"You'll see." Tsukasa's smile never meant anything good.
Amane deadpanned. "I'm going to regret letting you be right?"
Tsukasa kept his smile. "Nope! Don't worry Amane, I'm going to tell you soon okay, for now, it's our secret."
Amane knew the day he let Tsukasa be was the day the world would burn. He loved his twin but Tsukasa was always special even when young. "Just don't get arrested or something."
"Why would I be? I'm not really doing anything that bad, especially if nobody ever finds out." Tsukasa placed his equipment back in his backpack. He rolled up his map and placed it inside as well.
Amane knew he wasn't lying, at most, it was probably one of Tsukasa's end of school pranks that usually took months to prepare. "Okay fine." He hugged his twin. "I don't want you to get hurt or in trouble okay."
"I won't!"
Satisfied, they both walked out of the classroom and started heading home. They wondered what they would have for dinner today.
However, Amane was also concerned about the date he accidentally set up with Nene.
Oh shit, he hadn't responded to her yet!

Despite his heart beating in joy over being alone with his love for a while he couldn't help but feel how bittersweet it all was.
They were only just friends after all.
