After ending summer vacation on a high note. The squad of teens enter school with a new sense of pride and anguish as it is the final year for some.
Before class began Nene went to go look for Amane.
"Amane!" She attacked him from behind with her usual cute hugs.
"Nene!" He responded by hugging her back and kissing her lips that still felt soft and nice… was that strawberry?
"How are you doing?" She asked him, it had been a week since they last saw each other.
Amane patted her head. "I'm doing well, you?"
"I'm better now that I'm here with you." She cuddled close to him, not even caring people were staring at them.
Amane responded by giving her more kisses.
Tsukasa sweatdropped as he watched the scene. "Get a room." He joked.
They both glared at him. "Shut up Tsukasa." They said in unison.
Tsukasa cackled, same old shit, nothing ever changes.
Suddenly their teacher came in which was Nene's cue to leave.
"See you two at lunch." She waved at the twins goodbye.
Once everyone was settled in their seats the teacher cleared his throat. "As you guys know it's the start of a new year, usually I just go through roll call and let you guys talk for a while before starting class officially but we have a new student this year so I have to present her, come on in."
Everyone was on the edge of their seats as a girl with green hair and glasses walked in with a smile.
"Hello everyone, my name is Shijima Mei." She wrote down her name on the board and turned around to bow at everyone. "I hope to be friends with everyone!"
Tsukasa stared at the girl, his eyes wide, his heart was beating fast as he immediately recognized her the moment she walked in. He got up from his desk and yelled out. "Shijima-chan!?"
Mei looked up to see Tsukasa looking at her with a massive grin. "Yugi-kun!? I didn't expect to see you again!" She waved at him back with a smile of her own.
Everyone including Amane was staring at the scene in confusion.
Amane was even more confused as to why he never knew Tsukasa had made a new friend. He wanted to be angry but perhaps he had simply forgotten? No, no way he could forget that.
Maybe this is Tsukasa's way of getting back at him for what happened during summer…
Yeah, he totally would do that.
Everyone in the classroom began whispering amongst themselves which kind of annoyed Amane. Why do they care so much about what his brother does? He's just like everyone else, he can make friends too!
Due to their closeness, the teacher decided to seat Mei behind Tsukasa since nobody ever seems to want to be near him for one reason or another. Mei immediately noticed this when she sat down, it kind of set her off, especially with all the things Tsukasa confided in her.
Despite ongoing classes, they kept talking to each other via passing notes.
I had no idea you were moving here
Omg me either, and to think I was asking you to come to the school you were already enrolled in lol
Imagine if I had accepted lol
They giggled as quietly as they could in order to not alert the teacher. They definitely didn't want detention on the first day of class. It was also their final year, it would look bad for any future colleges they decide to apply to.
Speaking of college, Tsukasa had no idea if he wanted to go. He knew Amane wanted to be a science teacher but what did he want to do? He quickly wrote a note to Mei.
Say Shijima-chan what do you plan to do in the future?
He quickly got a response a minute later.
I'm enrolling in an art program!
In fact I'm totally going to pass ;)
Tsukasa tried not to laugh as he wrote his response.
Did you just draw an emoji?
Also that's nice you're so good at drawing
The teacher stopped writing on the board and turned to look at his students. "Open your book to page 51."
As everyone turned the page Mei gave a quick response.
I did lol
Yeah I am but you're also pretty good too Yugi-kun, why don't you try enrolling?
When he got the response Tsukasa's heart skipped a beat. Him? Good at art? He hasn't really tried drawing before he just tended to make weird shapes and build stuff.
I'm not lol
I make weird things
Mei glared at his head as she wrote out her response.
That's art dummy!
Are you forgetting you made a god damn replica of my house with paper!!!
Tsukasa eyed her with a nervous smile.
I mean yeah but idk
Mei rolled her eyes.
Just come along with me!
Heck let's join the art club!
Tsukasa was about to respond until the teacher grabbed the note out of his hand and was semi glaring at him. "Shijima, Yugi, you two should pay more attention in class."
They both sweatdropped as everyone stared in awe at them. Amane looked at his brother in surprise, out of all the things to get in trouble for… it was for passing notes.
Lunchtime…
Amane told everyone what had happened during class. "They were passing notes and I didn't even notice." He took a bite of his onigiri trying to understand what happened during the first period. "I've seen Tsukasa get in trouble over many things but they were ALWAYS outside of class!" He was stress eating at this point.
Nene sweatdropped. "Tsukasa-kun made a new friend, it's only natural he'd want to talk to her." She looked at her boyfriend wondering if maybe he's just having a case of big brother blues.
"Well yeah but how come we've never seen this girl before? What if she's a bad influence!! What if she turns Tsukasa into a delinquent!" He was frantic as all the worse case scenarios came to mind.
Everyone couldn't help but feel Amane's gloomy aura, big brother blues indeed.
Nene patted his back. "Hey now don't go panicking, we wanted him to be able to be on his own and open up to people, remember?"
He paused and slowly nodded. "Well yeah… I guess after everything that happened during summer I feel bad…"
Nene completely understood where he was coming from. "I know but you have to let him walk on his for now."
He merely nodded and placed his head on her shoulder. "Always my voice of reason."
Nene giggled. "Always."
Everyone looked at the couple as they ate and didn't dare voice a question they all had in their minds.
Where's Tsukasa?
Tsukasa was in fact in the art club with Mei looking around at the painting and artwork people had hung up.
"Wow, they're so pretty." She admired them all as she eyed them all carefully and touched the sculptures with delicate hands. As delicate as they can be because she fears she'll somehow drop them.
Tsukasa watched Mei as she admired everything in the room. He wanted to do that too but he felt a bit uncomfortable, almost as if they shouldn't really be here. Truthfully he wanted to go eat with Amane but… well… the art was pretty and he definitely did like it…
A little too much.
Mei sat down in front of an empty canvas and began drawing.
"Shijima-chan!? What are you doing??" Tsukasa asked her, panic in his voice. "We could get in trouble!"
Shijima smirked. "It'll be worth it Yugi-kun! Just grab a canvas and you'll see!"
Tsukasa sweatdropped, it was as if he finally met his match in terms of doing things you're not supposed to. Naturally, he gave in since the idea of drawing sounded really good right now. He grabbed a blank canvas and a pencil and just… moved. He didn't know what he was drawing but he was drawing… at least that's what he thinks he's doing.
He didn't notice Shijima staring at his drawing in amazement. She knew he had hidden talent! He just needed to stop thinking and just do it. At first, she couldn't make out what he was drawing but the more he did the more she noticed he seemed to be drawing himself wearing weird clothes and floating.
Wait, was he drawing himself as a ghost or something?
When he finished he blinked and was rather taken aback by what he drew.
"What the hell?" He whispered.
Mei merely looked at him in shock. "What? You didn't notice what you were drawing?"
His eyes went wide as he dropped the pencil. "No… I just… moved?" He stood back and saw the painting properly. It was definitely a picture of himself but he looked weird. He was wearing a white western shirt with a black kimono, a grey hakama, black shoes, red ankle-height socks, and a hat. On each of his sides, there were two black orbs with pink and blue markings and he was floating. He also has a black seal on his right cheek.
Like a ghost.
"Did you imagine yourself like that or something?" She joked a bit but noticed Tsukasa seemed rather disturbed by his own creation.
"Sorry I… I have to go!"
"Yugi-kun wait!" She called out to him but he shut the door behind him, running away from whatever was troubling him.
She looked at the drawing again and decided to fold it up and keep it just in case.
A few days later… after school...
Mei kept looking at Tsukasa's drawing in wonder, truthfully she's been there before in terms of drawing herself in many ways or what's on her mind or even how she's feeling. However she couldn't exactly decipher what Tsukasa had drawn and judging from his reaction, neither could he. She had theories, perhaps he's still going through the same problem, he claims to have worked it out with his brother but there could still be more problems… or he could just view himself in a bad light.
Someone who's evil in the eyes of the people and yet transparent and invisible at the same time.
Like a ghost.
While she doesn't exactly know much about his twin she figured it would be good to talk to him. Since his talk with Tsukasa, Amane was finally comfortable with joining the astronomy club without the worry of his brother getting upset with him.
Apparently, he joined it last year but didn't tell anyone. He managed to get a pardon from Teru to let the broadcasting club live on until Sakura left.
Their last broadcast consisted of exposing a secret they had… in order to make up for whatever they did to a girl named Yashiro Nene… she didn't really know, Minamoto Teru just kept talking to her as if venting all his frustrations to her. He was off to college now but passed by when she was getting settled in and decided to show her around.
The secrets consisted of…
Hyuuga Natsuhiko would wet his bed at age 10.
Nanamine Sakura has a crush on Natsuhiko.
Yugi Tsukasa still demands his mom to make him dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets.
She kind of giggled at that one, that was cute, she did kind of expect Tsukasa to be kind of childish.
And yet Tsukasa was also pretty dark as well.
His pranks, his blackmail, and the things he's done before were all well known to everyone. She would hear whispers and some people in her new class kept staring at her because she talked to Tsukasa. Like it's a taboo to be around the dude.
He's not going to kill you guys, geez.
She's pulled pranks before, they're not that big of a deal honestly.
Despite Tsukasa being so dark, that stuff didn't really bother her- not even the blackmail or his issues. In fact last she heard he has yet to use any of it anyway. She was sure Amane was probably the same way in terms of being dark but he seemed to be finding ways to cope, unlike his brother.
The painting was probably that, his need to get a lot of unresolved feelings off his chest. It was clear from the start that Tsukasa wished to be more like his brother. There was also that whole 'if I can't have his attention nobody can' mentality that Tsukasa developed.
She sighed as she realized she ended up befriending someone with a lot of baggage they can't seem to stop holding onto because they're unable to. At the very least when it comes to the whole drama with his brother, for the most part, it seems to be resolved, he's able to stop being in his shadow and actually leaves him alone now.
How does she know all of this?
She's been observing him these past few days of course!
She also tried to draw him on multiple occasions.
He didn't seem to mind that Amane hid a secret from him, then again it's likely Tsukasa had his own secrets. They were spending less and less time lately as well. She did notice this was making Amane feel a bit anxious.
Ah, big brother blues.
How cute.
During her investigation, she finally found out who Yashiro Nene was. She had such fat legs! She almost ran up to touch them and maybe even draw them! They were so amazing she couldn't contain herself in the end. She ended up pissing her off along with Amane.
"Just for a bit please!!" She begged she was on her fucking knees.
They kept looking at her judgingly, she didn't mind honestly, she just wanted to draw those fat legs!
In the end, she did get to draw her legs, albeit at a distance but she got to draw them!
Getting close to Amane again at the end of club activities was a chore though. Tsukasa had no club yet and she finally got into the art club and hoped Tsukasa would eventually join her.
This basically meant Tsukasa had to go home these days by himself since Amane has astronomy club. She felt bad and considering he barely talked about the drawing he drew a few days ago she really needed to speak to Amane.
Naturally, the easiest way to get to Amane is by going through Nene first.
"I need your help to talk to your boyfriend." She pleaded, again she was on her fucking knees. She didn't know why she decided to go this far for Tsukasa- he just seemed like a decent guy.
Nene had that expression all girls have when a random unknown girl asks them to talk to their boyfriend- the look a predator has when it looks at its prey. "Why?" That simple and small word was enough to set off Mei's alarm bells. Nene was the jealous type… the jealous type that will end your career in a matter of seconds.
"It's about his brother!" Mei quickly said as she felt extremely threatened by such an intense glare from a girl that seems so lovely and nice and… well many positive things. "I have something important to discuss to him about his brother." It wasn't a lie, she was being sincere and yet something told her this girl will be reluctant to let her see her boyfriend regardless.
She barely even knows Amane, stop eyeing her suspiciously! "You can come with me if you want, I'm not trying to get to your boyfriend." She finally said out loud because honestly any time they waste with this nonsense- they could have used it to help out Tsukasa.
Nene blushed deeply as she nodded and told her to follow her. Finally, some progress, she barely knew these people and yet they weren't what she was expecting.
She certainly isn't sure how to feel.
Ironic considering she definitely took a liking to Tsukasa despite the whole school telling her to stay away from the dude.
She must be weird then.
Nene led her to the astronomy club that was currently packing up as it was time to go home. Amane greeted Nene with a kiss of the lips and looked at her lovingly as if she was some goddess that came down to earth to grace him with her presence.
Ah, that could be a good drawing concept.
Nene whispered to Amane something she couldn't quite hear. She assumed it must be the fact that she needed to talk to him about Tsukasa.
Amane looked at her and walked up to her with his arms crossed expecting her to state her business.
She did, of course, but now she kind of hates this guy. "I'm here to talk about your brother."
Amane got a bit frantic. "What about him? Did he get in trouble? Is he hurt?" He was looking at her desperately for an answer.
Mei sweatdropped, big brother blues indeed. "Well no… but see a few days ago Yugi-kun and I entered the art room and did some drawing." She took out Tsukasa's drawing from her backpack, gently. "He drew this and was kind of freaked out about it and after trying to think of an answer all I have is theories so I have come to you." She passed him the drawing.
Amane and Nene stared at it with wide eyes. They definitely didn't expect Tsukasa to be that good at drawing. It was amazing! Despite how weird it seemed.
Amane hummed as he inspected the drawing trying to decipher his twin's possible hidden message if Mei is telling the truth about Tsukasa freaking out then he must have not liked the results. Why wouldn't he? It's pretty cool, especially with the way… actually, he looked kind of evil in this drawing…
He had a bit of a migraine as he realized Tsukasa probably still has unresolved issues. "Thanks, Mei, I'll talk to Tsukasa once I get back home."
And talk he did.
Once he got home he dragged Tsukasa off the couch and into his room. Their parents looked at him weirdly but decided not to question it.
Amane locked the door and showed Tsukasa the drawing. "You want to explain yourself? I thought things were getting better Tsukasa, are you having problems again?" The idea of his twin still having problems was definitely eating at him.
Tsukasa was freaked out about the fact that the drawing finally got to Amane. "I…" He snatched the picture from Amane without hesitation. "How did you even get this?"
"That's not relevant right now, tell me what's the matter?" Amane grabbed hold of Tsukasa's hands.
Tsukasa looked away before sighing. "Nothing, I just feel terrible… I definitely haven't been the best person or sibling to you at all. I mean I got angry when you said those things and yet I failed to see your point of view as well. Not to mention the whole becoming an adult- once we graduate you're going to go to college and be a science teacher and I'll… what will I do?" He groaned as he sat down on Amane's bed. "I kind of hate myself right now… I can't even properly apologize to you for all the trouble I've caused."
His sudden confession made Amane freeze up, his heart felt heavy and he felt tears starting to form. "Tsukasa…"
He sighed again. "Just forget it… I'm being dumb again…"
Amane hugged him tightly. "No Tsukasa you're not… listen… it's okay to feel conflicted and stressed out about the future. And you don't have to apologize to me if you don't want to."
Tsukasa suddenly felt extremely heavy, as if he was carrying a massive weight on him formed from his stupid feelings. "It's been difficult letting you go… moving on… I've been trying but it's all new to me… feeling things and realizing how stupid I've been… I'm sorry Amane… I'm so sorry…"
Amane cupped his cheeks and began to squeeze them. "Tsukasa you're always keeping things to yourself! Just because you're trying to find yourself doesn't mean you can't talk to me about how you're feeling. Also, I forgive you, ya dummy." He patted his head as he smiled at him. "I haven't been the best sibling either honestly."
Tsukasa groaned, whenever Amane would squeeze his cheeks it meant he's trying to make him feel better. It would work if it didn't hurt. "That's not true, you're the best brother ever… I'm sorry I made you feel bad and ran away… I know I'm childish- when I drew that picture I remembered a lot of things, my problems with myself and… our old parents."
The room went completely silent at the mention of those two… people.
"They can't hurt us anymore Tsukasa, they haven't been able to in a long time," Amane reassured him. "I know you're sorry about the whole beach thing like I said I forgive you, let's just start fresh."
Tsukasa nodded but still felt scared. "I feel like being a ghost would be better… a powerful one even… I would be way stronger than I am now and maybe even be mature."
Amane put his forehead up against his and stared into his eyes intensely. "I think you're pretty strong Tsukasa, you do a lot of things for other people despite being extremely chaotic. You also have lots of hidden talents." He smiled at him warmly. "You're growing up too fast for my liking now." He definitely was having some big brother blues.
Tsukasa chuckled. "Thanks… I kinda needed to hear that."
