Nene looked around the squad table with the biggest grin ever.
Had someone told her she would be dating her crush and befriend lots of people in the progress she would have called them crazy. Because it really was crazy.
Despite all the drama that had been going after her and her friends- things were finally calming down. And a good thing too since a new girl arrived and well… she's definitely strange but she was Tsukasa's new friend. He introduced her to them a few days ago after being by themselves these last few months. Nobody really questioned it since Mei herself already had a strong presence despite not being known by name.
Mainly because she can't forget the time she tried to draw her legs.
Mei spent Halloween with Tsukasa, apparently, they went around scaring little kids in order to get their candy. Natsuhiko was the getaway driver.
How nice…
Nene's family spent Christmas with Amane's family, Sakura and Natsuhiko tagged along so they could wear their usual ugly Christmas sweaters. To their surprise, Mei's family also came due to Tsukasa inviting them over.
Due to this Nene naturally grew close to Mei and reluctantly let her draw her legs… just for practice not because she was starting to enjoy the fact that someone other than Amane liked her legs.
Eventually, Mei became part of their group once they all spent new years together. She noticed how much happier Tsukasa seemed to be now. She was sure Amane noticed it too. He got into art thanks to Mei and has even won some competitions.
They once competed together and the judges couldn't decide who to pick as a winner so it ended in a tie. His parents were so proud they cried for a whole week as they told everyone about Tsukasa's artistic accomplishments.
Tsukasa felt better than he ever had in years.
Sakura had managed to find time to come visit him that day as well and congratulated him.
"I knew you could do it."
His old group of friends spent a weekend together, Mei tag along, of course, they all got along nicely. Sakura has been doing well in school and Natsuhiko still cried when she left again despite telling everyone he wouldn't.
Old habits die hard it seems.
Now it's been a year since the events that started everything. Those events being Nene's lie about who she really likes. She still feels embarrassed about it and didn't want to even remember it. However, it's hard to forget when it's your anniversary.
That's right, it's Amane and Nene's anniversary!
Well, actually it's also Kou and Mitsuba's anniversary…
Double anniversary!
Amane had been planning this for a long time and he hoped nothing would go wrong on this special day. To ensure such he bought Tsukasa tickets to the movies so he could take Mei with him. Tsukasa was suspicious but took them anyway since it was a movie Mei wanted to see since the day it came out.
Aoi and Akane had decided to take the day to plan their fake wedding since they plan to get 'married' as soon as they can.
Meanwhile, Kou had something important to discuss with Mitsuba once they went out later today.
"You guys are so cheesy I swear." Mei joked as she took a bite of her granola bar while drawing an assignment she was given.
Everyone narrowed their eyes at her.
"You say that as if you and Tsukasa aren't cheesy as well," Nene said with her arms crossed and looking at her all smugly. "We've seen the way you two flirt."
A pink hue appeared on Mei's cheeks. "What? We're not cheesy and we don't flirt, we're not even a couple!" She forcibly closed her notebook as Tsukasa walked back to the group with two cans of soda.
"What did I miss?" He handed Mei her soda as he looked at everyone trying to act casually.
"Nothing." Mei wanted to facepalm at how fast she said that- she opened the can and began to chug down the soda trying not to think about what just happened.
Tsukasa raised an eyebrow but decided to not ask, she'd probably just tell him later anyway.
The day proceeded as normal, at least as normal as it can be after that embarrassing display, she didn't know such a joke would bother her so much because it's obvious that Nene was just joking.
They were all bit with the love bug as well. She remembered how lovey-dovey all of her new friends were on Valentine's day. It was kind of hilarious watching everyone making chocolate in a panic or trying to get tickets to a concert.
All she did that day was take Tsukasa to an art museum just for the fun of it. It wasn't even that hard, why was everyone even panicking?
Granted, it's probably different if she were to date him.
Not that it would happen.
"So what exactly does your brother plan to do with Nene later this evening?" She asked Tsukasa who was semi-busy trying to draw something for the assignment they were both assigned the other day.
He hummed a bit before answering. "Dinner, like a romantic dinner of sorts I guess? I don't really know what he's thinking of these days." He sighed as he set down his pencil. "He's been insistent on asking for my opinion but like… I don't even know anything about romance! I don't know what girls like!" He exclaimed.
Mei rolled her eyes. "He's overthinking, but then again Nene-chan is kinda special in terms of being a romantic." She suddenly felt bad for Amane.
Tsukasa sighed again. "Well he knows what he's doing I guess."
Mei giggled. "He's probably panicking as we speak."
And Amane was in fact panicking… a lot.
For you see he had a nice dinner planned for the whole evening under the moon and stars but for some reason, a part of him kept thinking everything and anything could go wrong on this date. He sat with Kou and Akane trying to come up with a full proof plan that prepares for any type of scenario.
"A meteor hitting the earth?" He suggested.
They looked at him dumbfounded.
"What are the odds?" Kou said.
"It could happen!" Amane exclaimed, he looked like a mad man but he didn't care right now.
Eventually, they wrote off his paranoia and merely gave him a simple plan to follow, take Nene to a nice area, set up dinner, and wait for the stars to show up. Be romantic while under the moon and kiss.
So Amane found a nice place at a park and set up a literal table full of dinner. He walked with Nene all the way there with her eyes covered.
"Amane you're too mysterious today."
"Just keep walking."
Eventually, he sat her down, her eyes were closed even as he took the blindfold off and quickly sat down across from her.
"Okay, you can open your eyes now." He was nervous, to say the least, this dinner was everything to him and he wanted it to represent their love for each other.
When Nene opened her eyes they immediately lit up, it was a beautiful sight to see, dinner plates with candles, a fancy looking bottle of soda, and of course donuts for dessert. "This is… this is beautiful Amane." She felt tears begin to form.
Amane felt his heart skip a million times. He wanted to go over and kiss her already but he had to contain himself. "I'm glad you like it Nene, it was rather hard to get this set up but it's all worth it just to see you smile."
Nene blushed, why did her boyfriend have to be so smooth? "Oh you, don't make me blush so early in the evening."
He chuckled and got up to get her dinner ready. "Wait for a second."
Nene was anticipating this evening, ever since she realized their anniversary was coming up she figured she would do something special but Amane ended up beating her to it.
As Amane set down their dinner she noticed it was starting to get dark. She wondered if this was on purpose. He lit up the candles and poured Nene her drink and began eating.
It was delicious, to say the least.
They chatted for a while as they shared laughs and memories of the things they did before they started dating.
"I swear I wrote you a Valentine's card but it got ruined and I was too embarrassed in the end." Nene blushed as she giggled.
Amane chuckled. "I was dared to give you chocolates but Tsukasa ended up eating them all."
They burst out laughing.
They finished eating and drinking and moved onto the donuts.
Nene took a bite of her donut. "You definitely can cook and bake better than me." She joked, although honestly, it wasn't really a lie.
Amane blushed. "I'm glad you think so." He laughed as he tried not to blush. Everyone doubted his cooking skills, even his parents!
The stars showed up and the moon was shining brightly. Amane knew this was the perfect moment.
"Nene." He grabbed her hand into his. "Ever since I met you my whole world changed and soon I'll be leaving for college, we'll be apart for a while and I know that causes you anxiety… I just want you to know that I love you so much Nene… too much even… and I don't think I'll ever love anyone else."
Nene's tears streamed down her cheeks, smiling from ear to ear from happiness. "I love you so much too Amane."
They got closer in order to kiss and end this perfect night… however…
Perfect nights don't exist!
It began to rain as they were close to sharing a kiss.
"Oh shit!" Amane exclaimed as he quickly covered everything and grabbed Nene's hand in order to run to the car.
He was glad his dad let him borrow it.
They sat there drenched as the rain was pouring heavily, clouds blocking the moon and stars.
"Well… we probably should have expected that…" Nene sweatdropped.
Amane couldn't help but agree. "Yeah… seems to be common these days."
They laughed and shared a long kiss despite how uncomfortable they felt in their wet clothes.
Kou and Mitsuba…
Kou wasn't sure what to do for their anniversary so he decided to merely just take Mitsuba out as if it were one of their usual dates. He had an important topic to discuss with him… especially with the recent changes that have been happening these days.
They sat on a bench holding hands not even caring at some of the glares they were getting from random people.
They were eating some ice cream together in silence until Kou figured it was time to pop the question.
He gulped and sighed as he threw away his wrapper. "Sousuke…"
Mitsuba blushed, again with using his first name… it was too embarrassing. "Yeah?"
Kou gave him a quick kiss on the lips. "There's something I need to tell you."
Mitsuba was a literal tomato as he felt his brain-melting. "Gosh Kou, you're embarrassing me." He jokingly pushed Kou away.
Kou chuckled and placed his hand on his cheek. "I wasn't sure how to ask you but… I want you to meet my parents."
Mitsuba froze and looked at Kou with wide eyes. He really wanted him to meet his parents!? They both hadn't come out to either of their parents yet and it's not like anyone really knew. It was a mystery whether or not Teru knew, they didn't really bother to ask him.
"I…" He was speechless! They were both always keeping it low key at times just in case but Kou is clearly done with hiding, at least from their parents. "I do… I do want to meet them." He wrapped his arms around Kou and kissed him passionately.
And in public!
They separated for air.
"I'm glad you do! I was really nervous and freaking out honestly because this is important to me and to you too-"
Mitsuba rolled his eyes as he interrupted him. "Kou don't start rambling."
Kou chuckled. "Right."
They sat there embracing the other until rain hit them out of nowhere. They were both forced to take cover in a nearby store.
"Why do things like that always happen? It's like another worldly being wants to ruin the moment." Mitsuba sighed as he tried to dry his hair.
Kou shrugged. "Honestly no idea, but hey at least it happened after I asked you that important question." He beamed but suddenly remembered Amane's plans with Nene. "Oh, shit Amane-senpai took Nene-senpai out for dinner in a park."
They both looked at each with wide eyes before laughing at how panicked they must be over this unexpected rain.
The night was truly perfect in their eyes.
Aoi and Akane…
They looked around a bunch of stores with decorations in order to get some ideas. While they were planning a fake wedding they were willing to go all out.
"Do you think we should get blue flowers?" Aoi asked as she looked at some pretty blue flowers in a flower shop that was on display.
"Anything you want, Aoi-chan," Akane said as he looked at their long list of things to buy for a wedding.
Aoi frowned a bit. "Alright, blue flowers it is!" She said cheerfully.
The next stop was a cake shop.
They looked at all the pretty cakes on display and decided to order a few to see what flavors they would like.
"Red velvet or the standard vanilla?" She asked again.
Akane gave her the same enthusiastic answer. "Anything you want, Aoi-chan!"
She once again frowned briefly before smiling again. "Alright, we'll go with red velvet then."
They marked it down on the list- well Akane did, he was the one making sure nothing was out of place and that all of Aoi's wishes were noted, written, and locked.
Aoi didn't feel like she was having too much fun though and not for whatever reasons you might think, more like she wanted to plan this wedding with Akane but all he would do is invalidate his own opinion in favor of hers. While she already knows how her boyfriend is she would appreciate it more if there was a bit of himself in this wedding as well.
So when they went to go look at decorations and he responded with the same answer she frowned this time, completely visible.
Akane began to panic, did he make her mad!? Is she not satisfied!? "What's wrong Aoi-chan!?"
She sighed and set down the decorations. "I want to know what you want Akane."
He stood there stunned for a bit. "What I want?"
"Yes, what you want." She held up the decorations again, she wasn't going to let this go, he was going to pick one them one way or another.
Akane was still a little confused. "Like I said, whatever you want is fine."
Aoi huffed and pouted. "No, you pick." She shoved them into his face because he wasn't getting it at all.
Akane blinked and blinked again. "Uh… the red ones?" He said slowly.
She beamed, satisfied with his answer. "Alright, the red ones it is!"
While he was still confused he wrote it down regardless.
Aoi kept this up because Akane couldn't understand she wanted his opinion as well. Eventually, she got a bit frustrated.
"This is your wedding too you know!" She crossed her arms in anger. "I want to know what you want and what you desire!"
Akane was stunned once again. "Aoi-chan…"
She wouldn't really look at him as she felt kind of dumb for getting mad over this.
He grabbed her shoulder. "Sorry I was a little dense… let's choose things… together." He smiled as he gave her a kiss.
She felt like she was floating momentarily until it was ruined by sudden rain. Luckily they were in the store still when it happened so they didn't get wet.
"Raining during a romantic moment? That's a little cliche." Akane joked as Aoi giggled.
Everything was perfect.
Mei and Tsukasa…
They went to the movies thanks to Amane's tickets, although they both suspected he bought those just so they don't get the bright idea to ruin his date.
For starters that was offensive and secondly they only did that one time but apparently that was enough to traumatize them.
Weak.
It was fun honestly, they laughed, cheered, and even cried with the ending.
That was the greatest slasher film they've ever seen.
It's too bad the killer died in the end.
"He was misunderstood!" Tsukasa argued as he frowned at the movie's ending. "He killed them because those guys were bad!"
"I know right!" Mei agreed.
They usually agreed on a lot of things these days. From favorite movies, favorite series, hobbies, and even tend to share the same artistic views.
Mei suddenly remembered that joke from earlier and began to blush. Now it was getting weird to be around Tsukasa for some reason, but she didn't want to bring it up or let her weirdness ruin things. He was so happy these days. If she did something to make him sad then it would be the end of the world.
And it's not like she wants to feel weird either, lately, their relationship just seemed more than a friendly relationship… or maybe that's all in her mind?
They go out as friends, sure, but last time she checked friends don't hold hands or even take each other out for dinner and subtly flirt sometimes and…
Oh my god, they have been flirting these days, haven't they!?
Tsukasa would keep complimenting her looks these days and she would do the same honestly.
Were they both oblivious or was she just making this all up in her mind?
She's been kind of a loner for most of her life as well. After spending most of her childhood in the hospital you come out not really knowing how friendships work or even how relationships work. Middle school was mostly homeschooling mind you, high school well… she was mostly ignored.
Did she mention overprotective and overly complicated parents?
And Tsukasa had a similar experience, despite never being homeschooled his classmates kind of isolated him for being too chaotic. It's not a crime to be yourself!
They sat down on a bench taking sips of their juice. It was kind of awkward and silent, almost as if they were both thinking of something but couldn't outright say it.
They both subtly drew their hand closer to the other until they brushed the other's fingertips for a bit. They both felt electricity course through them realizing that holding hands now didn't seem like a friendship kind of thing between them.
Tsukasa would be stupid to not realize what he's been doing these days. He's definitely acting like his brother when he had a massive crush on Nene. Except he was more subtle about it since he didn't want to ruin his friendship. He was blushing a lot, his heart would beat and he stayed up a lot at night thinking about her.
Mei was the same way honestly.
If they made a move and the other didn't feel the same way? It would likely ruin their friendship or at least make things awkward.
But they were both kind of stubborn and couldn't get the idea of kissing each other out of their head.
So it didn't come to a surprise when they both turned to look at each other at the same time and kissed without hesitation.
Tsukasa pulled Mei closer in order to deepen the kiss. They felt their hearts leap out of their chests as they kissed rather passionately, as if hungry for the others' affection.
The moment was unfortunately ruined by sudden rain falling on them.
They pulled apart looking at each other with wide eyes not even caring they were getting wet.
Did they just do that!?
They were too freaked out about their own actions to even realize the other had kissed them back.
They ran away… in the rain.
