"Marry me."

"Eh?"

Yashiro Nene, the heroine for the most part of this story. It all started when she finally accepted Yugi Amane was her type and therefore the love of her life. She thought he had a girlfriend at first but turned out to just be a prank on Natsuhiko. Mitsuba made shit worse thanks to tea by telling them her crush was Teru instead of Amane and she continued this lie in fear of hurting Sakura because she was so nice.

In the end, things were discovered, Amane was upset at her for a while but eventually, they made up and even got together. Around that same time, Kou and Mitsuba discovered they had feelings for each other and also got together.

She had trouble with Aoi who was jealous and after 2 months she finally confessed to Akane, they got together and all was fine but problems were rising due to Tsukasa's negative emotions. He met a girl named Shijima Mei and eventually all of that was also resolved.

Then Kou and Mitsuba encountered problems with their parents forcing them to break up and be separated. It caused massive stress on Mitsuba and thus he fell sick.

Then the Yugi twins received bad news about moving to Tokyo once they graduated.

And now they're here…

Yugi Amane was asking her to marry him and he wasn't even joking.

He was serious.

"Amane…" She was bright red as his words settled in. Marrying him would be a dream come true! But marriage was also serious and…

"Marry me Nene, I don't want to be with anyone else… I know it's crazy but…" He was nervous, he wasn't sure if this was a bad move on his part as it was something they never actually discussed and they've only been together for a year.

A part of Nene wanted to yell out a yes but the other part kept nagging her that she was still too young to consider such an option. She loved Amane too much to not say yes though… so don't judge her! "Yes… I want to marry you."

Amane felt extremely relieved as he hugged her tightly and kissed her. "Thank God." He said as he breathed in shakily from all that anxiety.

Nene giggled. "There's no way I can say no to you."

"Oh really?" He said curiously.

She's probably going to regret this.

Neither of the twins made it home that night which prompted their parents to get worried. They knew this was probably their way of getting back at them for this unexpected news. They didn't want to leave and that much was obvious with their reactions.

They called Nene and Mei's parents for any signs of them. Apparently, even those girls are missing. Their stuff was in their room so they did pass by at one point. They were tempted to call the police but they didn't want to make a big deal.

Perhaps they'll come back on their own?

They eventually did along with the girls who came to get their stuff, they asked them questions but were promptly ignored as they left again to go drop off the girls at their respective houses.

When they came back they refused dinner and went back upstairs to lock themselves in their rooms.

They felt a migraine incoming.

It went on like this for the next two months, the boys were prepping their stuff so they knew at the very least they weren't going to protest at the very end and delay everything. They did notice Tsukasa coming home way later than Amane but considering how Tsukasa has always been they figured he's probably been staying at Natsuhiko's place for a while.

Or even Mei's place.

Either of the two.

They went to school, as usual, taking their final exams and chatting with their friends. Mitsuba wasn't sick anymore, he hasn't been for a few weeks now, however, his stress wouldn't really let him be but he held on so he could pass his exams.

He still couldn't get near Kou and Kou still had no idea what to do about their situation. He felt anxious the more time he spent away from Mitsuba. Even during lunch, they have to sit separately. Their parents had their teacher watch over them, he didn't want to but he gave in.

Kou got smarter in terms of being subtle with trying to show Mitsuba affection though. It definitely helped with his stress whenever they would coincidentally end up in the bathroom at the same time and coincidentally end up alone. He would take advantage of it, holding his hand, kissing him for a bit, exchanging their love for each other.

He hated this arrangement but it was the best he could come up with. It was also helping so it was a plus.

Final exams hit differently for everyone once they came around. It was no longer a cause for celebration once they passed and graduated.

Nene still had Amane's marriage proposal in her mind, he even bought her a nice ring. It wasn't fancy, it was more like a toy ring but it was enough for her. She wondered if this was his way of maintaining them connected even if he left. She sighed, it was wonderful, and yet she still hated the idea. Being far away from her love, it was torture!

Speaking of love, she did notice the subtle hand-holding Mei and Tsukasa were having these days.

Are those two finally together? She hoped not, he's also leaving soon.

Unless he had a plan.

In times like these, she wanted to remain positive. Even if Amane can't come up with anything she can always count on Tsukasa to be the one to cause chaos in the end right? Yeah, she'll just assume he has a plan.

And little did she know he did, in fact, have a plan. He'd been working a part-time job these days and even found a nice cheap place for him and his brother. They were packing because they were moving alright. Granted Amane doesn't know yet, he plans to surprise him. They were going to essentially run away, their parents will forgive them one day anyway.

Mei nudged his shoulder in order to get his attention, he turned to look at her, and as soon as he did she gave him a surprise kiss.

Did he mention they were dating now? Because they are, but he didn't want to announce it yet since it would ruin his surprise.

While he did have a solution for their predicament he wondered if Kou ever found one for his.

Classes ended, everyone was packing up. Their grades for the exam were posted, they were an improvement for the most part so that was a plus.

Aoi Akane: 100

Akane Aoi: 100

Yugi Amane: 95

Yashiro Nene: 90

Yugi Tsukasa: 90

Shijima Mei: 90

Minamoto Kou: 85

Mitsuba Sousuke: 85

"Man final exams suck so much, my head still spins from all the damn information I had to cram in there." Mei joked as she stretched her arms.

They were walking home, all 8 teens, as they knew it was the last few days of class. Things didn't seem to be improving for some.

"Can't believe you guys are actually leaving," Akane commented as the twins looked at their friends and then to each other.

Tsukasa figured it was time to come clean however before he did so Amane decided to announce something.

"I asked Nene to marry me." He blurted out.

Everyone paused.

"What!?" Tsukasa was the first one to voice his thoughts. When did his brother get so bold? That sounds like a him move, not an Amane move.

"Yeah, I asked her to marry me." He repeated.

Aoi squealed and congratulated Nene who was blushing brightly while smiling. "I'm so happy for you Nene."

Despite the fact that it's a happy announcement Amane didn't look so happy. Oh, right he doesn't know what Tsukasa has planned, well buckle up buddy because he's been planning this for the past two months, any and all scenarios taken into consideration. He'll be upset but he didn't care.

"Amane." He liked being dramatic if he were honest. "I have something to tell you."

"Yeah?" He raised a brow waiting for his brother to drop whatever news he has.

Tsukasa grinned. "We're not leaving, we're going to run away together!"

It was like a pin had dropped in Amane's brain. "Wait what!? What do you mean we're not leaving and running away together??"

"It's exactly what I mean, we're running away!" Everyone was looking at him as if he grew two heads. Yeah, he would need to explain some more but he wants to be dramatic.

"Tsukasa we can't run away, where are we going to live!?" Amane asked the real questions.

Tsukasa smirked. "I have it all planned out."

Amane felt his jaw drop. "When? How? Why!?" He had so many questions but he should have seen this coming. This was Tsukasa they were talking about.

"Two months ago, I've been working this whole time and I found a cheap place for us to live in." He did a peace sign and had his tongue out. He was a genius, no need to thank him. "As for why… well… why not? We don't want to leave, we want to stay here right?"

Amane immediately tackled his brother in a hug. "I think you're insane!"

"I know."

"This is stupid."

"I know."

"This is too risky!"

"I know!"

"Why do I still love you?"

"Because we're siblings."

Tsukasa's idea sparked an idea in Kou at that moment. Well more like inspiration, they were willing to do anything to stop from leaving. He should be willing to risk it all for Mitsuba.

When he went home that day he was nervous but honestly he just couldn't take it anymore. With his determined expression, he went up to his parents and slapped the counter.

"I'm done listening to you two." He said an angry expression on his face. Teru looked at his little brother in admiration.

His parents looked at him with a frown. "What are you talking about?" His father said as he put down the plates.

"I'm done listening to you guys! I've been miserable these past months! I want to be with my boyfriend!" He was immediately silenced by a slap to the face from his mother.

"Shut up! It's just a phase of yours, you'll get over it!" She screamed out.

Teru immediately went to his side. "What the hell is wrong with you two!?" He has never seen his parents act this way before.

"We don't want him to ruin the family name with his childness antics." His father explained. "This is for his own good."

Except it wasn't and Kou had enough. "NO! I'M DONE! I'M NOT GOING TO LISTEN TO YOU TWO ANYMORE!"

They looked at him stunned. "We'll transfer you to another school!" They threatened.

He merely shrugged. "Go ahead! That's not going to stop me!" As he turned around the words he was dreading to hear came out of his father's mouth.

"We're kicking you out of the house then!"

He shut his eyes and held back tears. "Fine… I'll pack my shit." And he did just that. Teru followed after him and entered his room as he grabbed a suitcase and quickly packed essentials, there was a possibility of them getting more upset and kicking him out without anything.

"Kou where will you go?" Teru asked, this was bad, he was sure Tiara overheard everything as well and is probably going to be crying when he leaves.

"I don't know, probably crash with my friends or something." He put his phone in his pocket and zipped up his suitcase. He walked past Teru and down the stairs. His parents are still in the kitchen too stunned to even move.

Tiara ran down and was crying her eyes out. "Don't leave!"

Kou smiled and patted her head. "Don't worry, I'll come to visit you… if I can." He looked at his parents one last time and quickly left. His sister's tears were hurting him but he knew she'll be fine.

He shot a quick text to the group chat.

Friends chat:

Kou: I left my fucking house

Kou: I was practically kicked out

Aoi: what!?

Nene: I'm so sorry Kou!

Amane: bro wtf where will you go?

Kou: don't know man

Mitsuba: they kicked you out too?

Tsukasa: what shit did I miss now?

Mei: Kou and Mitsuba got kicked out of the house

Tsukasa: oh shit you guys can crash at Natsuhiko's place he won't mind

Natsuhiko: excuse me?

Akane: oh yeah he's in this chat

Natsuhiko: -.- yeah okay you two can crash here

Mitsuba: thanks

Kou: thank fuck

Kou was stunned to hear Mitsuba was also kicked out. Did he have the same idea as him to confront his parents?

Mitsuba did, in fact, confront his parents. He was tired of feeling like shit, missing Kou all the time. His parents had the audacity to say that whatever he was feeling will go away. Eventually, the argument escalated and he was kicked out. Luckily he was able to get most of his stuff packed and out of the house.

They both met up in front of Natsuhiko's apartment. They embraced and kissed.

"I missed you."

"I missed you too."

"Let's not break up like that ever again."

"Agreed."

They knocked on his door and were immediately let in.

Nene was worried about her friends after the messages from last night Natsuhiko let them know they're both at his place safe and sound. Apparently, Teru had also texted Kou wanting to know if he was okay. Things were getting complicated.

Love was indeed complicated.

No wonder people keep thinking it's overrated. She was almost the same in that regard.

Graduation is tomorrow, apparently, the twins have a whole plan of sneaking out before the moving truck comes by. She looked at her plastic ring and smiled fondly, is she really going to marry Yugi Amane?

Instead of Yashiro Nene, she'll be Yugi Nene. She squealed a bit at that. She wondered what their future children would look like. Will they have her eyes or Amane's eyes? Her hair or his hair? A combination of both perhaps? She hoped they weren't cursed with daikon legs like hers.

That would just be cruel.

Granted she wouldn't let them develop her same insecurities. They were hard to deal with.

She went to bed awaiting tomorrow.

The next day she waited patiently for third years to be called up one by one to receive their diploma.

Mei was the first of their group to be called up. As she received her diploma everyone cheered loudly.

Tsukasa whistled loudly. "THAT'S MY GIRLFRIEND!" He announced cheerfully.

Mei blushed in embarrassment.

When Amane was called up Nene cheered loudly not even caring about the weird looks she was getting from people that didn't know her.

"I LOVE YOU!" She screamed out as she waved her hand.

Amane didn't hesitate to answer back. "I LOVE YOU TOO!"

Up next was Tsukasa, he got cheers of his own from his fellow art classmates, friends and family.

Mei decided to embarrass him back. "THAT'S MY BOYFRIEND!"

But jokes on her because Tsukasa didn't feel embarrassed. "LOVE YOU!"

Mei hid her face as Tsukasa ran up to her and kissed her on the lips. In front of her parents too… what a mad lad.

Nene laughed loudly. "THOSE ARE MY IN LAWS PEOPLE!" Everyone around her laughed.

After the celebration was over it was time for everyone to go home which meant it was time for the twins to leave.

Prior they had packed their stuff and left it at the new apartment they were going to stay at. All they had to do now is let their parents know and peace out as quickly as possible.

Nene watched them leave hoping everything will be alright.

To say they were nervous was an understatement. They grabbed each other's hands for support knowing full well what they were about to do.

They got out of the car, the moving truck was going to be here soon. Their parents were happy and cheery as they moved some stuff into their car.

"I'm glad you two aren't making any protests." His father put some small suitcases in the trunk.

Both Amane and Tsukasa gulped.

"Actually we're…" Amane said.

"Leaving." Tsukasa finished the sentence for him.

Their mother and father had a sudden whiplash as they looked at them in shock.

"Wait what!?" Their mother yelled out in shock, she was trembling a bit.

"We're leaving." Amane reiterated. "We don't want to move to Tokyo so we're declaring our independence."

Tsukasa nodded agreeing with everything this brother was saying.

They stood there stunned for a few minutes. The moving truck had come by around that time. Neither of the four had noticed.

"But…" Their mother looked at them in sadness. It's not like she could stop them, she wasn't angry either. Her husband came to her side, placing a hand on her shoulder as he smiled in understanding.

He looked at his boys, they've grown up so much, when did they grow up? "We understand." He said- it was painful but they knew one day this would happen.

Amane and Tsukasa went wide-eyed at this. They were okay? They thought a fight would break out or some shit. They were half expecting world war 3.

"Really?" Amane said unsure if this was some trick.

Their mother wiped a tear from her eye. "Really… you guys are adults now…" The hardest words a mother could ever say.

It felt like yesterday when she came across two little boys hugging each other, cold, hungry, scared. She could never have children and it devastated her and her husband but that day when she found the twins, it was like destiny.

"If staying makes you two happy then we'll let you stay… we're hard, overbearing… maybe overprotective." Their father laughed nervously as his sons narrowed their eyes. "Okay yes, we're really overprotective."

Amane sweatdropped. "That is an understatement."

"Anyway what we mean to say is… we've been keeping you two from being on your own for a change." Their father placed his arm around his wife. "Like all birds, they must leave their nest." He had never cried before but boy did he want to right now. They were both his pride and joy, even if they didn't share his blood, they were his sons.

The twins began to get teary-eyed as well as they both hugged their parents tightly. To think they were going to practically run away, good thing they decided to at least let them know.

"We love you guys." The twins said in unison as they began to cry.

"We love you too."

The 4 embraced as they cried out in the middle of their front yard.

One of the guys driving the moving truck was wiping his tears while the other was crying loudly and blowing his nose on some tissues.

They had watched the whole scene.

2 years later…

All was well between the group of friends.

As soon as Aoi and Akane graduated they got married, well… fake married. Tsukasa was the priest, believe it or not.

Aoi's maid of honor was Nene while Akane's best man was Amane because Lemon was too lazy to make it to the wedding. Kou and Mitsuba were groomsmen while Mei and Sakura were bridesmaids.

The wedding looked so realistic, everyone was invited and some thought it was legit. Even Natsuhiko cried.

Speaking of Natsuhiko, nobody was sure if he and Sakura ever got together. He peaced out to Tokyo once he graduated. They post pictures together and seem happy, even holding hands. Probably safe to assume they did.

If you're wondering if Nene and Amane also got married… well… not yet. But they were still engaged! Amane was studying to become a science teacher while Nene planned to become an author.

Tsukasa and Mei were at the top of their class in the art program and yes, they're in fact still together although Tsukasa has yet to pop the question to her.

Kou and Mitsuba live together now thanks to the help of Teru who decided to help them rent out a place. They got an apartment from the same building where Amane and Tsukasa were staying.

If you're also wondering how Amane and Tsukasa managed to afford it, they didn't have to, their parents offered to pay the rent until they both got a job.

Kou and Mitsuba's parents have yet to come around but they figured one day they will. Kou plans to join the police force while Mitsuba decided to become a professional photographer.

Aoi plans to become a fashion designer, Akane plans to help her while he's working at a big chain store owned by an old guy and his crazy assistant chick.

Nene sighed as she went over the final draft of her new book. "Do you think people will like it?" She asked Amane.

Amane walked over and kissed her on the cheek. "I'm sure they will."

She pouted. "Yeah well, you're biased."

He chuckled. "You know it."

She giggled as she saved her work, she still had trouble thinking of a title. Her novel was romance related, what kind of good title could go with it?

Romance…

Romance…

Romance…

Ah! She had a brilliant idea!

"Romance is overrated." She typed it out and saved again, she was satisfied with the title.

It seemed to resonate with her, at the very least that would be the title of her own life story… if someone were to ever write it that is. Lots of pain caused by such a feeling.

It just seemed so useless and overrated after so much pain.

But neither her or her friends ever gave up.

Love is truly amazing.

The end

I want to thank everyone that followed this story from the very beginning. I wrote this story while in a hananene mood and decided to give a shot at a normal school environment type AU.

Eventually it wrote itself with the constant drama. I'm glad I did this because it gave me a chance to meet some new and wonderful people and even make a new friend! (You know who you are lol)

I don't consider myself a good writer so when a bunch of people kept saying they loved my writing it made me feel happy. I've been writing for years but never felt like I was improving in any way shape or form. I realize now that I have and one day I'll be able to look at my work with pride.

I hope to see you all in my next project!

Until then~

Final thanks to everyone that followed and favorited

To everyone that reviewed:

I hope you enjoyed the ending

And to the person that asked if I had other projects in the works, my AN is self explanatory, I do have more ideas
