3. Dreams
It was a typical quiet night filled with books, old movies, and grading papers and essays of your students. As you were finishing a second cup of tea while curled up under a thick blanket reading over essays your email chimed.
When you picked your phone up you couldn't help but smile and roll your eyes when you saw who the sender was. As much as you wanted to be annoyed you actually had a slight flutter while reading what he sent.
Y/N, I would have called but I don't seem to have your number. Anyway, I came across this today and it made me think of you.
"It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting." - Paulo Coelho
As you read over the email a few times you couldn't help but smile even harder. How is it he already had your stomach and heart fluttering? You knew it was just nerves but as you started to type him a response you had to retype a few words.
Dean Barba, It seems you have an interesting taste in literature. What are these dreams you are thinking about?
PS - I don't typically hand my number out to random men at the bookstore who then become my boss. ;)
You laughed slightly as you pressed send and picked up the next essay in your stack to grade. As you were midway through grammar notations you heard the familiar chime once again.
Ms. Y/L/N, All dreams are just possibilities of what's yet to come, am I right? So for now I dream about a coffee date over a stack of books.
Also, I would agree with not giving your number to random people but if I remember correctly said "random man" is someone who you, clumsily, decided needed a broken foot. ;)
PS - are we really using formal titles here?
You smiled and moved towards the kitchen with your mug and phone. You couldn't help but allow the memories of the bookstore cross your mind. With a smile plastered to your face you decided to keep up the chase a bit longer. While you let your tea steep a bit you sent back a quick reply.
"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams" - Eleanor Roosevelt
:)
As you moved back towards the couch in the dimly lit room you felt at peace. Your light had been out for so long and you could not remember the last time you felt the flutters you were feeling at the moment.
Looking out the window into the dark New York night you couldn't help but think of all the dreams you had yourself. You were on a new path and with such meant your dreams had to be altered, to be shifted. You once believed love and marriage were the next step in your dream. A dream within a nightmare.
However, now, sitting alone in your apartment looking out to the night sky, your dream has shifted. The darkness of only a few short months prior had started to fade and your smile had started to return. The peace you felt in your mind had also started to build in your heart and soul, awakening a desire you had abandoned.
As you sipped your tea the chime of your phone rang once again bringing you back to reality. You opened his message with a small smile covering your face.
Such a beautiful dream it is. :)
PS - What are you doing this quiet Friday evening?
As you read his words you couldn't help the slight blush that crept across your face and flutters in your belly. Had this man, someone you only knew for a short time, really made you blush and flutter? Were you 13 again?
It's a real crazy night here! Partying hard!
You took a quick picture of the stack of essays and your cup of tea and attached it to your email as you settled back into the blanket. As you did you grabbed the essays to finish grading before you got too off track that evening. Before you could pick up the pen another email came through.
That seems like a real exciting party! Don't let your boss know how crazy your weekends are ;)
PS - There is a Shakespeare re-enactment in the park tonight in about an hour. Care to join me? I'll even put in a good word with the boss if the grading isn't done ;)
You wanted to say "no." You wanted to run from the flutters and the smiles. You wanted to flee back to your solitude.
Seems like your dream of coffee and books might just come true after all. Although, I wouldn't begin to know how to get to anything in the park.
Did you really just agree to going with him? Was this a date? Could you date again? Your mind rambled as you heard the chime once again.
"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." - Walt Disney
Send me your address. I will pick you up in 30 minutes.
Before you knew it you sent him the address and quickly started to straighten the living room before changing into jeans and a sweater. You were midway through trying to get your hair to cooperate when you heard the soft knocks of the man who had you nervous and anxious for the night to come.
