Chapter 7
Edward's heart skipped a beat as he heard the noise he had longed to hear again after so long. It had been months since he had heard the banging. Since they left the cave, the box had been completely silent.
Until now.
And now the pull was even stronger.
He took an unconscious step towards the box. The king stood next to the box in shocked silence. Impossible. He thought to himself as he gazed at the beautiful but unsuspecting box. His eyes trailed up and down its carvings, looking for a way to explain the noise. But he drew a blank. As he caught the movement of his eldest son out the corner of his eye, he snapped back out of his thoughts. He lifted his hand to signal his guards. Within seconds, Edward and his bothers had soldiers surrounding them, pointing spears and blades at their chests and throats.
"No," The Queen whispered in shocked surprise as all of her children were threatened with a weapon. Suddenly she had a blade pointed at her. She hadn't realised she was beginning to stand up from her throne until her husband brandished his sword and forced her to sit back down. Once the King had lowered his weapon, he turned back to the mystery box. He circled the box on its pedestal. He couldn't wrap his head around it, when it knocked again.
Bang, bang, bang.
He let out a incredulous laugh.
"What on Earth have you found?" He asked Edward as he smiled cockily at his son.
Bang, bang, bang, bang.
Edward frowned. Out of all the knocking he had heard the box make, both in his dreams and in person, it had never knocked any more or any less than three times in succession. Never. Not looking at his gleeful father at all, he focused solely on the box.
Bang, bang, bang, bang.
As his father jumped for joy at this once in a life time discovery, Edward's focus never wavered.
Bang, bang, bang, bang.
He stayed staring at the box.
Bang, bang, bang —
The sides of the box burst off with an almighty explosion. Everyone was knocked off of their feet. Wood chunks and splinters went flying. The King was thrown backwards into the wall and fell to the floor with an undignified thump. The Queen was knocked off her throne and tumbled down the small ledge of the platform. Emmett and Jasper, along with all the guards were thrown onto the ground, knocking all of them unconscious.
As for Edward, he found himself crouched on the floor with his arm thrown over his head in protection. He slowly lifted his head in shock as he didn't remember crouching down at all. Almost like he…knew what would happen. He looked around the room at the devastation and the smattering of unconscious bodies surrounding him. He could faintly hear the yelling and barks from behind the doors leading to the hallway of guards trying to get in. But Edward was too distracted by what he saw before him. There, a top the pristine marble pedestal that once housed his beautiful ornate box, sat a… woman.
