Chapter 10
Edward poked at the small fire he had started, glad for the flicks of heat and the comforting glow. His gaze flickering occasionally over to the woman asleep on the small cot by the wall. He and his brothers hadn't spoken since they arrived at the old hunting lodge, apart from deciding who would fetch wood, build a fire and find water. It had been a few hours since they'd found their run down hide out. The brothers were all sat on the floor around the flames having completed their designated tasks.
"What do we do now?" Emmett mumbled, watching the water begin to bubble in the large metal pot that had been hanging on the wall.
"I'm not sure."Edward mumbled. A frown that hadn't left his face for hours still firmly in place. He used his fire-poking stick to draw in the gathered dirt and dust on the floor, creating swirls and shapes.
"Who is she?" Jasper whispered, looking from his eldest brother over to the sleeping girl and back again.
"I'm not sure about that either." Edward breathed leaning forward and rubbing the back of his neck with his left hand as he continues drawing with the stick in his right.
The night had turned bitter and all of them were exhausted from the hours spent fleeing but they were too hyped to even contemplate sleep. Emmett had kept himself busy keeping their water supply steady. Whilst Jasper was twirling a charm on the end of a string around his neck. As the sky began to show the first signs of sunrise, they all realised they still didn't have a plan for what to do next.
Edward hung his head in exhaustion and confusion. Nothing was making sense. He squeezed his eyes shut as he breathed in a deep breathe to try to piece together his wild thoughts.
He suddenly felt a soft hand touch his cheek. He snapped his head to the left to see his beauty staring back at him as she knelt on the floor beside him. Startled by having not heard her move, he continued to hold her gaze. Her soft hand roamed over his stubbly cheek comfortingly. He relaxed his tense shoulders in what felt like days and his eyes drift shut ever so slowly.
He snaps his eyes back open and takes her soothing hand in his. Now is not the time for feeling relaxed. Emmett and Jasper look on as their brother is captured in the spell of the mystery woman. Edward holds her hand between his like a life line. Emmett leans forward to offer her a cup of water, of which she accepts with a grateful smile. Holding it in the hand not grasped between Edward's large ones, she downs the water greedily. "Thank you," she sighs with relief as she hands the cup back to the large man. He nods in acceptance as he continues to look between her and Edward.
"What is your name?" Edward blurts out, as he had been wanting to know the name of his beauty.
She smiled as she opened her mouth to answer, when she hesitates. She flicks her eyes down for a split second before continuing. "Bella…my name is Bella." She says in her melodic voice. Whilst her hesitation intrigued him, Edward doesn't bring it up.
"Bella," He murmurs softly, trying out the feel of it in his mouth. He loved it. It suited her. He repeats it again. "Bella." He smiles at her fully as she she smiles back. She leans forward slightly.
"And what is your name?" She asks him as she lets her gaze dance over his face. Her eyes took in the copper highlights of his hair and the strong line of his jaw. How magnificent. She thought.
"Edward." He whispered back. She grinned as she once again found herself looking into his jade eyes.
"Edward" She tried out. She squeezed his hand as she smiled. "Perfect."
