"Commander?"

As Hackett said those words, the world around me started to fade and just before I blacked out, I heard my own voice speak.

"Rest now, let me take your place just this once."

Then a sting from medi-gel and I was out cold.

The Clone

I left her there, and as I looked at the console trying to figure out why the Crucible wasn't firing, I was lifted by a platform. When I looked up, I was blinded by a light. After my eyes adjusted, I didn't know where I was only that there seemed to be three paths in front of me. I saw a white figure walk towards me.

"This is kind of weird."

"Who are you?"

"I am Commander Shepard."

"No, you are not."

"Fine, I am her clone."

"And what makes you think that you can take her place?"

This question caused me to stop in my track. I really didn't know the answer. I honestly don't think I can, but I did know she needed a break. She deserved it; she was a good person. Even after I tried to kill her, she tried to save my life. Who am I?

"Honestly, I don't think I really can, but she deserves a chance at surviving."

"Interesting. Well if you have come to destroy the Reapers, be warned that you will destroy all synthetic life and even all those who use technology to survive."

"There has to be another way! Why does the cycle even exist in the first place?"

"The created will always rebel against their creators. Just as you have. You were created and when you no longer had a purpose, you ignored your creators."

I thought about this. It wasn't wrong, but even so, the war between the Geth and the Quarians ended in peace.

"Rebellion doesn't mean violence."

"Rebellion leads to chaos. The world cannot exist in chaos."

"Life is chaos. Nothing ever goes as planned. If I remember, we call it Murphy's Law. Do I have any other choice?"

"You can control the Reapers or synthesize organic and synthetic life."

I knew synthesis couldn't be chosen. Changing people against their will is not something she would choose. Control wasn't the best option, but maybe…

"If I choose to control the Reapers will they do anything I want?"

"Yes, they are completely at your disposal. You can even order them to destroy themselves, which is what I guess you are thinking."

I lifted my omni-tool and sent a quick message. I then began my walk. I will take control; I will force them to die. I would be her if only for a moment, but that was all I needed to take.
