Liara

We had now been on this unfamiliar planet for a couple of days, and for almost all of it I had stayed within my room. I couldn't leave it because I knew I wasn't emotionally stable, and I didn't want anyone to see me like this. Dani didn't even see me like this, and she was my bondmate.

"Not was, is." I always caught myself doing this. I knew that she wasn't dead. I hadn't felt anything that would lead me to believe that. I had felt it the first time, and it would have been stronger this time. As I continued to think about this, I heard a knock at my door.

"Come in." I knew it probably was Tali or Ash coming to check on me. I took a deep breath and composed myself but was surprised by who walked through the door.

"Liara, there is something I needed to give you." She handed me a datapad that was all too familiar. It was Dani's personal one. It was worn and battered, yet all the keys were still in place. "She asked me to give that to you. She said there was a message on there for you." After she said this she left. She knew I needed to be alone.

I looked at the datapad and suddenly I remembered when Dani, was telling me that she didn't need a new one because this one "works just fine." I chuckled at the fact that she was so stubborn. No *is* so stubborn. I powered the pad on, and surprisingly it turned on just fine. The datapad used facial recognition and started to play a video.

"Is this thing even recording? Liara's right I do need to get a new one. She doesn't need to know that I said that, or else she'll give me that smirk that says I always right. Which she is." I chuckled when I heard this. Hearing Dani's voice, even if it was a recording, was calming and it put me at ease. I was still surprised that she had that kind of effect on me. I continued to watch her fidget with the camera until she realized it was recording. "There we go. Hey Liara, if you're watching this, then Joker didn't pick me up. I honestly can't know if I will survive what happened, but I will try my hardest to. I love you so much you have no idea. Liara you are the light of my life. I want to spend whatever time I have left with you. You are the most beautiful person, both outside and in. You are brilliant and are resilient. Sometimes though that means you keep people at a distance, though I am not really one to talk." She chuckled as she said that, and pushed her short brown hair to the side. I realized that as I was watching this I had started to cry and that's when I noticed similar tears falling down Dani's face. "Liara I don't know what you see in me, because sometimes I feel like there are a lot of people in this galaxy that are better than me. Whatever you see that I don't see, I'm glad that I have it. After Akuze, I had lost all hope in my life, and so I just followed orders, but then I met you. You showed me that life can be bright. It wasn't 'til I met you that I accepted that what happened was out of my control. There is something I want to give you. I need you to go up to my cabin and on my desk, there should be a small box. Before you continue watching this you need to get it."

I paused the video and stood up from my chair. I looked at the door that just a little while ago, Edi had left through. I took a deep breath, and walked out the door. What I didn't expect was for the mess hall to be completely empty. I walked towards the elevator, and when I got in I pressed the button that sent me to the Captain's cabin.

When I stepped off the elevator I was faced with a door. I opened it and walked through, when I got hit with many memories made just a few nights before. I looked around and saw that everything was just as she left it. Her bed was a mess, and when I looked at it I thought of that night. I felt blood rush to my cheeks. I couldn't believe that she could make me feel like a child even though I was 110. I then turned towards her desk. I saw the small velvet box, and my heart skipped a beat. I already knew what was in the box, a ring. What it was for I didn't know. I was now reminded of the datapad that was in my hand but I noticed that the video was over. I then looked at her computer seeing if she had a copy of the video on it. When I opened it, I saw a video already open labeled "For Liara". I played it wondering if this video continued where the first left off.

"Okay Liara, I now have to say it. I need to get a new datapad. I hit the time limit for a video, and thankfully you checked my computer. You probably already know what is in the box, it's a ring. The purpose of the ring is…" She took a deep breath and looking at the face on the screen, I knew she was nervous. "Liara, I love you more than anything in the galaxy, more than life itself. If you're not a part of my life, then it's not worth living. Whatever life I've got left, I want to spend it with you. Liara I want to ask you to marry me. I know I'm not that brave, I mean I am proposing to you through a video. I mean I have had that ring for months and I couldn't even ask you. Liara, you always give me the strength I need to make it through each and every day. So, if you do want to marry me, you can put the ring on. I promise you we will be together again."

The video was about finished when I saw Dani give me her dorky lopsided smile. I then noticed that she was crying, and then noticed that I had been crying. I wiped my eyes and then turned my attention to the small velvet box. I opened it and saw that it was a silver colored ring with a clear gem in the middle and then I saw a small message within the lid of the box that read, "This ring and its twin contain a metal from your partner's home planet and a crystal from your home planet. This ring contains Earth titanium and a clear Thessian crystal. Its twin is Thessian steel and Earth diamonds."

I looked at the ring again. I felt the largest smile appear on my face. Dani wanted to spend the rest of her life with me! Of all of the people in the galaxy she chose me. I didn't want to be questioned so I decided to stay up here for the night. I went over to Dani's dresser to grab some more comfortable clothes. I grab one of her Alliance t-shirts and a set of black sweatpants I changed and put the ring on her nightstand. I knew I would want to wear it once I got up so I put it where it would be easy to find. I then laid my head down, fell asleep, and for once didn't have nightmares, just a nice dream of the future.
