A/N: Hello, after a long hiatus! As you can see, I am coming back and hopefully becoming an active member of Harry Potter fanfiction readers and writers. For starters, I thought to return with a one-shot, and then I might take on some bigger projects or, you know, finish the unfinished ones. I might also enter a rewriting phase where I will be taking my former drabbles and expanding upon them so if you have an idea what you want, I am willing to listen.

Disclaimer: I don't own anything you can recognize!

Hope you enjoy!

Could It Be

Harry is sitting in the Room of Requirement after yet another DA meeting. Something is bothering him about Luna Lovegood. Almost, like he has met her before in the muggle world, but that must be folly.

It was a warm summer day and for once Harry wasn't working some chore for the Dursleys nor was it the case of him being left behind. It was one of those weird days when they actually brought him along to the seaside. The rule of him being unnoticeable as much as he could still stood, but he could play and be a child as long as he didn't do anything freakish.

So, there he is, quietly playing and building a sandcastle when another child approaches him. It's a girl, probably younger than him, pale as moonlight – her skin white, untouched by the sun, hair a whitish blonde unruly mane and beautiful silvery eyes that glitter with unknown wonders and mystery worlds unknown to others.

"Hello there," she says in a childishly sweet voice.

"H-hi," Harry replies uncertainly. He has never had the freedom to communicate with other children so this is a bit of a novelty to him.

"I'm Luna, can I play with you?"

"I'm Harry, sure."

Such is the simplicity of children. For a bit, they build the castle in silence, but then, Luna in her boldness says, "I'm four, you?"

"Five."

"Not fair, you're older than me," Luna says pouting.

"And wiser," Harry says remembering what Mrs. Fig once said. 'I might be older, but I am also wiser.'

"Hey!" Luna shouts sprinkling him with a little sand and together they laugh.

They continue building their sandcastle when Harry says, "My favourite colour is green, you."

"Blue."

"Luna, are we friends?" Harry asks, uncertain and knowing that it possibly isn't true. For all his childish urges, he is being taken care of by the Dursleys.

"Yes silly, I wouldn't be playing with you if we weren't," Luna replies matter-of-factly.

Harry doesn't understand the logic, but he lets it slide by him. He's just so happy he found a friend that Dudley hasn't chased away yet. They continue to build the castle for another hour or so and just when they sit down to admire it a woman approaches them that resembles Luna so much.

"Luna, say good-bye to your friend. We have to leave," she says smiling.

"But mum! We just finished building a castle. Please let's stay some more, pleaaaase!"

"Luna, come on!"

"Fine," Luna says grumpily, "Bye, Harry!"

As she says that last part, she hugs him and Harry is confused once more, but he hugs her back and says, "Bye!"

As Harry continues to sit, thinking about Luna, he hears a shout of a very displeased Vernon Dursley, "Boy!"

Harry sighs and leaves the castle behind him as he goes towards his grumpy uncle and horse faced aunt that is right next to him.

(Back to present)

Harry sits on the floor with his back on the wall of the Room of Requirement when the memory finishes and he mutters, "Could it be that I knew you?"

He is startled when a voice answers him, or rather questions him, "That you knew who?"

It's a dreamy girl of a blonde girl with silvery eyes and moonlight skin untouched by the sun. Harry turn around and sees her with a mischievous glint in her eyes and a knowing smile. It's as if she has Seen what he has.

The Potters arrive at St. Mungos in time. They are lucky that they know a mediwitch who won't inform the Papers first and then deliver a baby. They trust her with their lives and lives of their children. She is of course Luna Lovegood. Luna leads them to a sterile room ready for a childbirth.

Laying in the bed, the pain is clear on Ginny's face. She screams every five seconds, although she knows the baby won't shoot out easily. She does have two previous experiences after all. Ginny tries breathing excuses like Luna says every time, yet, still, the contractions continue to wear her down.

Then, it comes. A powerful contraction hits Ginny's body, causing her to clutch at Harry's hand and his face to contort in a slight grimace of pain that he schools quickly.

"It's time," Luna says. "Ginny, you need to push."

And she listens… She pushes and pushes long and hard. An hour past before they make any progress. You'd think that the wizarding world had made some progress in making these things easier, but it seems it Ginny's luck isn't that great. The head finally shows up.

"Do you need water," Harry asks seeing that this might last longer than James and Albus did.

"Keep pushing, you're almost there," Luna reminds Ginny.

'Please come out baby girl,' Ginny thinks to herself, 'I held you warm in me long enough. It's time to come out and see the world.'

The baby doesn't seem like she wants to come out, anyway. Her head pops back into her mother's body so quickly. Because of the blood being slippery, Luna can't get a good grip on the head and she can't use magic exactly because young children are very sensitive to it. It isn't until the next long push that half the baby exits and Luna is able to pull out the rest of the body.

Immediately after Luna removes the cord, the crying baby girl is put on Ginny's chest.

"I love you," Ginny says, looking deep into the baby's eyes. And with that, the baby goes silent. No more crying, just silent.

One look from Ginny is all Harry needs to address Luna.

"Luna, you've been my friend for a long time, would you allow us to name her after you and would you consent to becoming her godmother?"

A smile and a hug is all confirmation Harry needs, after all they knew each other for 28 years.

Seeing the hug, young Lily Luna Potter gurgles happily.
