Chapter – Familiar face

Gru brought the family to the seaside.

"So, we're going to the seaside and enjoy the sun, the sea and yada yada yada. Rule one, don't just jump and shout! Rule two, you know with the…"

On the shores of Lāna'i, Margo saw a poster of a play with the label – "The Flower of Lāna'i". Margo recalled how she fell for Antonio, and all she got out of it was a broken heart. After her painful break up, she bore a loathing towards boys. How about now?

"Margo! Margo! Margo! Margo! MARGO!" shouted Gru.

"Huh? What?"

"Did you hear me?"

"Hear what?"

"You weren't listening. Alright, let's get to it!"

The family excitedly enjoyed the seaside. The girls built sandcastle. Lucy enjoyed windsurfing and encouraged Gru to join in.

"No, no thanks."

"Oh, come on!"

Lucy pushed Gru and sent him windsurfing. However, he lost control.

In the evening, a play was held. The viewers were silent as a portly man hosted.

"Ladies and ladies…"

"Don't you mean gentlemen?"

"Of course I mean ladies and gentlemen."

"And children…" prompted a little boy.

"And children…"

"And animals…"

"And… will you quit this? It's distracting. I need to restart this. I now show you the play done by the performance based on the story The Flower of Lāna'i."

The group laughed at the host.

"SHUT UP!"

He surveyed the public back and forth lest someone would laugh at him.

"Now I present to you the one and only Niko!"

Crickets chirped. And a teen boy scorned.

"You'll be SORRY!" called a teen boy with glasses.

"Excuse me! Why not keep quiet?"

"Sorry."

"Don't say sorry! Just SHUT UP!"

"Sorry."

"Gah! Anyway, sadly there's no girl in this play. I wish there's one let the performance begin!"

Margo arrived just in time for the performance. The curtain revealed a picture of a sunny day at the seaside. The performance began with a somewhat partially muscular teen boy who recited, pretending to have a girl with him. Margo noticed the same boy on the poster on stage.

"Oh, Leimomi, I'm not really that bad. I just had bad luck."

"If you are not, then you whatever was the cause of being an…"

The crew from behind repeated the lines.

"hour behind? Hour behind? Hour behind?"

This caused the person to struggle to be back on track. Behind the scenes, the crew scolded him.

"Look at this! Do we have to go through this a hundred times? Go off stage! That will get your small head refreshed."

Feeling saddened by this treatment, the boy walked much to the audience's consternation. Margo decided to meet him and reassured him.

"You did your best. Who are you?"

"You may not know me, but I remember you well, Margo."

"Antonio?"

"Uh… Antonio?" the boy wondered.

"What did you do to me, that day?

"I think you've mistaken me for someone else." the boy protested.

"Explain!"

"Yes, you did say we won't forget each other. Listen, I understand how you felt the first time we met. I'm sorry I hurt you terribly about what happened at the cheese festival."

The cheese festival where little girls chose a boy to take a piece of cheese from his plate. The boy was the only one who wasn't chosen by any girl, causing him to get depressed. Margo instantly realised.

"Wait. You're the boy I've met."

"Come on! I know we've been rough, but how about we start over? I'm Niko."

"How in the world did you end up being on stage? Good luck."

Niko saw a group of girls passing by Margo and they chased her. The stage actor decided to go behind the pursuers. The girls surrounded Margo and shook her. Another threw Margo to the ground. Niko climbed on the stairs towards the roof. Suddenly, his foot was caught in a rope, sending him falling onto the girl gang, indirectly saving her.

"Thank you, for saving me."

Margo left him.
