Epilogue
On stage, Niko decided to rehearse. The audience who was still sceptical due to his initial failures to be an actor decided to watch, one last time. Niko was sweating immensely. Margo held his hand.
"Margo?"
"I'm right behind you. You can do it."
Antonio and the girl looked at Niko and delivered a derisive tone.
"So, Margo decided to join the bulky kid. Look at that! Mr Gru is even there."
This led everyone to laugh to the cast.
"Quiet!" a little boy called. "Quiet! I'm trying to listen! Hey, they are going to do the play. Go! NIKO AND CAST!"
Niko continued the rehearsal.
"So, Leimomi who is the Flower of Lāna'i has finally led the country's happiness to be still, despite it being flooded. She has brought a cluster of pineapples and sugarcane juice for the poor."
The curtain revealed a picture of a sunny day at the seaside. The performance began with Niko. And this time, Margo was with him. She was now in a hula dress. Niko acted.
"Oh, Leimomi, I'm not really that bad. I just had bad luck."
"If you are not, then you whatever was the cause of being an hour behind." said Margo.
"Oh Leimomi, how can I ever thank you? You have delivered the pineapples and sugarcane juice to the poor." said Niko.
"It's nothing, Honi, I am the Flower of Lāna'i. I want to see everything happy." said Margo.
"The sun gleams upon us and you beam at us, breaking our sadness. And this calls for a dance."
The minions played the radio. Paradise Maui played. Gru and his family were dressed in hula dancer outfits. As they started dancing, Edith and Agnes danced. Agnes held her unicorn in her arms. The audience danced to the music. Gru danced with Lucy who kissed him who in turn kissed her. Margo and Niko danced together.
Meanwhile, Antonio tried to sabotage the show by tampering with the set and special effects equipment, but his attempts instead cause her to inadvertently enhance the performance.
With this performance done, there was a moment of silence. One man applauded. Then a second. A woman applauded. This gradually led to the whole audience cheering at their performance.
Furious and fuming at the family, Antonio came onto the stage and viciously beat Niko. Margo came to his defence. This led to the jealousy of a group of teen girls. They decided to attack Margo. Edith and Margo fought the girls. Niko put himself in front of Margo. Edith and the minions fought against the girl gang. With the fight done, Margo thanked Edith. Again, Gru froze Antonio.
"Eh! It's to cool down the tension."
"You've done that before?" asked Lucy.
"Did it once. Now, that's twice."
Niko was being beaten by the girls. Margo tried to save him, but was interrupted by the jealous girls, resulting in Niko being beaten. Enraged, Margo and her sisters fought the jealous girls and defeated them all. The crew cheered at their victory.
"We did it. We've beaten them." Agnes cheered.
"Yeah, they weren't so hard. No one should…"
"Take a look!" Lucy prompted.
Margo mourned for the apparent death of Niko. The audience, Gru with his family and the theatre crew stood in his honour.
"He was… brave, although he may not look it. He will always be brave."
"Sad to see this happening. Lāna'i has lost one that will always be precious." said the director.
"I was blinded by hatred towards boys. I just wanted to say… that is… how to say this… I wanted to…" Margo wept.
"Wanted to do what?" Niko coughed.
"You? You're alive." Margo gave a sigh of relief.
"What happened?"
"You were being beaten by the girls, but you're safe."
"Woo hoo." Lucy cheered.
"Listen, Margo, I… I wasn't really good at anything. I'm done pretending to be someone I'm not."
"Actually, you're something. Besides the play that received bad reviews, your charity and your devotion to me is enough. I finally see that you're a nice person."
"I… I was meaning to ask you. Would you? Would you go on a date with me?" asked Niko, shyly.
"Of course, I will. So it concludes the scene of Flower of Lāna'i!"
Margo and Niko, at last, admitted their feelings for each other, and Antonio was forced to work as a janitor.
Back in the same restaurant where Gru's initial failed date happened, a slender pair of legs stepped in. An elegant finger nail pressed a floor button, and Margo asked Niko.
"Why of all countries would you choose Hawaii? More accurately Lāna'i?"
"I didn't think you'd come here. I wanted to be famous. Instead, I've ended up making a fool of myself."
"No need to worry. We shall enjoy our party."
"Our first date. It's just what I've always wanted."
"Yes and be sure not to make me regret my decision!"
The doors opened. In her little black dress and heels, with backpack strung off her shoulder as a purse, an immaculate Margo stepped out with Niko in a short sleeved shirt and garlands around his neck.
They had reached in good time for the party. They walked down a hall and stood for a moment looking down on the room. The party was in full swing though there was a relaxed
atmosphere. There were perhaps thirty guests, chic young guests in cocktail dresses, suits and tails, dancing or chatting in twos and threes. To one side of the room a bald-headed bartender in a white jacket stood alone behind a wide counter, polishing glasses.
Curved stairs led down either side of the balcony. The circular motif was carried from the floor, where a colourful modern art water feature stood in the centre of glass concentric rings, a pool flowing beneath. The light sound of laughter and chat carried across the room as Margo and Niko sat together.
A waiter placed the menu lists on the table. The redhead was inspecting the menu with a slight frown on her face as she struggled to understand exactly what kind of food was being advertised.
A number of posters of Niko and Margo of different plays were scattered about the ground.
"I finally know thanks to Niko that not all boys are to be hated. There are good and bad, just as with girls. Now, I would like to make it the best family picture ever."
Back at Gru's house, Margo's first and last picture in the album was of all of the minions, Niko, Gru, his family, including Dru, the minions and herself.
