Everyone was sitting down for Dinner. It was quiet and awkward, most people couldn't help but shoot glances at Percy and Harry not sure what to expect. Neither liked to be the center of attention and felt like running from it. Still, they had agreed to give it an honest try for Arthur's sake as well as there own.
Attention was pulled away from them both when the twins came down the steps with Slytherin green skin and shining silver hair. They stomped down annoyed as everyone gaped. Percy at the sight of them choked on a bite of his food and began coughing. Harry patted his back snickering. "What happened," Percy asked surprised. No one ever dared prank the twins after all.
"Nothing," the twins returned together sitting down.
They shot annoyed glares at Harry who just chuckled. "I like it, Go Slytherin it seems."
"We don't want to talk about it," they said together taking a plateful of food.
After a few moments, the laughter settled and the awkward chats and silences resumed. Sirius looked to his goddaughter who did not seem at all interested in a relationship with him, she had straight up said it. He, however, had to try so he decided to ask some easy questions to start up a conversation with her. "So Harry, how do you like Hogwarts?"
She barely even looked at him but with a subtle nudge from Percy answered. "I don't, I considered transferring but I'd have missed Percy and as I am entering my fifth year, I have to take my OWLS to properly fill the paperwork even with my emancipation."
This shocked everyone but Percy and the twins, both of whom knew how much Harry despised school. "Hogwarts is the best school in the magical world, everyone knows that," Hermoinee said pompously. The very idea that someone would choose to change schools was horrifying to her.
Percy ran his thumb gently over his girlfriend's hair knowing that she was doing this for him. Neither of them was fond of the no it all and the questions. "I prefer the dark arts program at Durmstrange," she said mockingly causing the order to look at her strangely tensing.
Percy couldn't help but roll his eyes, it was clear she was having them on but with such a little comment half of them looked at her like she was a death eater. "That was a joke, Durmstrang is a boys only school," Percy said annoyed, and people claimed he could not take a joke. "Honestly take a joke and relax. Hogwarts lacks in many focuses especially History, Defence and Potions not to mention it completely lacks sections on dueling and etiquette. There is also no linguistic options offered at Hogwarts which are all key magical tracks of knowledge."
That was not the answer he had been hoping for but Sirius was stubborn and decided to try again, he wasn't entirely sure how to take his goddaughter but he was still going to try. "Surely there is something about Hogwarts you like."
She glanced at her boyfriend who blushed as she wiggled her eyebrows suggestively. "You know, now you are just doing it for fun," Percy said as she smirked deviously. "Do you want me disowned. Or dead, he is a werewolf. No sexual humour baby or else you are going to get me in trouble." He found her defensive attitude and joking demeanor comforting as it was something constant.
"Too bad, if they wanted to protect my virtue they should have been there earlier," she looked to her godfather while everyone looked disgusted at the crude way she put it. "Do you want the socially acceptable answer or are we going to stop this game. I find small talk like this grating on my nerves. I'm here for Percy not making up some relationship we have never had. It would be best if we just coexist and ignore each other."
"Why do you hate me," Sirius demanded, "Look pup, I know I screwed up, I know you don't know me from a hole in the wall but why do you hate me?"
She looked him over, "I don't hate you, Sirius Black hates a very strong emotion, I am indifferent. I could care less," she replied calmly. "It's too much effort to hate you. What I don't get is why you are trying so hard. Move on."
He flinched as if struck. "You're my goddaughter, I can't move on, look harry just give me a chance."
"Take advice from uncle Moo'ey then, he's very good at forgetting and moving on," Harry said coolly. "After all, he forgot my existence for over a decade. I don't need parental figures or a blast from the past. Dads dead, moms dead. We aren't anything to each other except a useless title of godparent between us. There is nothing else there. Get over it and move on. I have."
"Potter," Molly growled, Both Marauders flinched at nearly every word. It was shockingly harsh to everyone there especially the mention of her parents who had been friends to many of them. Harry, however, did not care about there delicate sensibilities or what they thought. She said what she wanted and no one would stop her. She was an adult after all and didn't need friends of her parents suddenly popping in to mess with her life when it was finally getting good.
Harry looked to her coldly not fond of Percy's mother at all. She would likely hex the women if it would not upset her boyfriend, "We are all Gryffindors for the most part, figured blunt is best, what am I saying that's not fact?"
Percy looked to her and they seemed to have a silent conversation, neither saying a word. "Thank you for dinner, but I think it would be best if we were excused," Percy said putting down his fork and offering his girlfriend his hand. "We weren't exactly planning to stay here, we have some people we need to talk to."
Arthur nodded as Sirius and Remus tried to stop them but they apparated away too quickly. They returned late and told Arthur they were going to sleep. The older redhead decided to do the kind thing of telling Sirius and Remus that their goddaughter had returned safely since neither child had any interest in doing so themselves. He was happy to have his child home safe and sound but he knew there was going to be a lot of issues with it. He just hoped he could convince them both to stay.
