DCeased: Borrowed Time

In DCeased, we saw what happened when DC's most popular heroes and villains dealt with a deadly virus that ended Earth, killing many heroes and villains alike. One of the many to fall and turn into the Anti-Living was Barbara Gordon, AKA Batgirl. In this storyline, we see what would happen if Barbara had not died, and what she would have done in this apocalypse. This is her story.

5. The Road To Bellevue

Barbara continued to drive, with the intent of leaving Gotham. She took time to take off her mask. "Barbara, where's Batman? Where are we going?" Jim asked. "Dad, Batman's gone. I heard him die and I helped Jason bury him. I know that you've known who was behind the mask," said Barbara as she looked at her father. "Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Cassandra Cain, and you..." Jim said, recollecting. "Cass, Jason, Alfred, Damian, and I are part of what's left," said Barbara. There was silence while Barbara drove. "You knew I was Batgirl, haven't you?" Barbara asked. "I have," confirmed Jim, "do you think it was any coincidence that Batgirl suddenly disappeared when you were crippled? Or that Batgirl suddenly came back when you got your legs back? I've always known. Now where are we going, Barbara?"

"We're going to Bellevue, Washington." said Barbara. "What's in Bellevue?" Jim asked. "Bruce has another biological son," explained Barbara, "his name is Kevin Beaumont." Jim stroked his mustache and said, "Beaumont... Isn't he related to Andrea Beaumont?" Barbara nodded and said, "he is. You've met him before, Dad. He's on vacation in Bellevue visiting Andrea. Bruce wanted me to find them and rescue them." Jim nodded and said, "should've realized he was Bruce Wayne's son. He has his father's eyes. So we're going to Bellevue to find them. You do realize it takes 43 hours to get from Gotham to Bellevue, right?" Barbara nodded and said, "I know. But I have to see if they're alright." There was silence for a few minutes as Barbara continued to drive. Jim put two and two together and said, "you love him, don't you?"

"I do," confirmed Barbara, "that's also the reason I want to see if he's alive, Daddy. This damn apocolypse, whatever it is, it's taken enough from us already. I'm afraid to lose Kevin." Jim nodded and said, "I understand. If I was in your position, or Kevin was, we would have done the same to see if you were alive. I'll help you, Princess. Because of how long this drive is going to be, let's take turns driving while the other rests. We've got enough weapons and ammo to protect ourselves from... Whatever these monsters are." And that's what Jim and Barbara did as they left Gotham City. After that, Jim took a nap while Barbara drove. They would stop to resupply for gas and eat, killing any Anti-Living Carriers. When the sun set, Barbara would take a nap in the passenger's seat while Jim drove. And when the sun rose again, Jim would take a nap in the passenger's seat while Barbara would drive. And that's what they continued to do during the 43 hour road trip to Bellevue, Washington.
