What Barbara did not know was that during her journey to Bellevue, an infected Captain Atom blew up and destroyed Washington D.C., Baltimore, and Metropolis, killing millions more. As Wonder Woman flew Batgirl all the way to Superman's Fortress of Solitude, she didn't waste time telling Batgirl the devastating news. There in the new hall of heroes, Barbara saw Alfred, Damian, Jon, Lois, Clark, Dinah, Ollie, Cyborg, and other survivors. And unfortunately, Lex Luthor. She saw that Damian was now wearing a new Batsuit. She walked over to Damian and Alfred and embraced them in a hug. This was all the family she had left. Damian took off his cowl and asked, "Barbara? Where's Kevin?" Barbara took off her mask and said, "I'm sorry Damian. Your brother turned... He's gone... I mercy killed him..." Damian looked down and said, "Yeah... I had a feeling... I'm really gonna miss him." Barbara hugged him and said, "I'll miss him too. But there is no doubt that your brother loved you." She then gave Damian the pictures of Kevin with his family.

Barbara never personally knew/never got a chance to meet Victor Stone, AKA Cyborg. But Dick had spoken highly of Cyborg. Cyborg considered Dick to be one of his best friends, from his time with the Teen Titans to his time with the Justice League. Barbara also heard that Victor was one of the most intelligent people out there, which impressed the woman with an eidetic memory. Barbara looked at Cyborg and asked, "Victor... Do you know what caused this?" Victor looked down and said, "Yeah... I was basically the cause of this... Ya see, Darkseid captured me and took me to Apokolips. Turns out I possessed half of the Anti-Life Equation in my system. He wanted the Equation completed for himself. But Darkseid and his cronies made the mistake of taking out a piece of death from the Equation, and in the process, they corrupted the Equation. The corrupted Anti-Life Equation latched onto Darkseid, and the power was too much for him. It drove him insane. He then went into the planet's pits, and destroyed Apokolips with his Omega Beams. Before the planet was destroyed, the corrupted Equation latched onto me like a parasite, corrupting my system and turning itself into an Anti-Life Virus. Then Darkseid's crony Desaad had me teleported back to Earth at the last second before Apokolips was destroyed for good. I tried to prevent the spread when I landed in Metropolis, but by then, the corrupted Anti-Life Virus evolved into a techno-organic virus that could transfer itself onto the internet and any piece of technology that contained the internet." Lex Luthor smirked and said, "quite ironic that Darkseid was destroyed by the very power he sought." Barbara glared at Lex and said, "shut up Lex."

"No, Lex is right," admitted Victor. "With the benefit of hindsight, if you had just died on Apokolips, maybe 600 million people and rising wouldn't be dead!" Lex stated. But that's when Clark's wife Lois punched Lex in the face and said, "fuck you, Luthor! Barbara told you to shut the hell up! We need your mind. We sure as hell don't need you for anything else." Barbara smirked and said, "Thanks Lois. I was this close to punching him myself." Victor then said, "y'all don't need to defend me, ladies. As much as I hate to admit it, Lex is right. Darkseid's arrogance and lust for power has damned us all. But right now, we need to settle our differences and put an end to this virus if we're gonna save the world. I figure you can help us, Babs."

For the next few days, the heroes got to work. They first focused on destroying the internet and taking down every technological piece of equipment such as satellites that contained the internet. The smartest superheroes (and Lex Luthor) thought of how to handle this apocalypse. Lex and Clark were debating about whether to put the remaining population (which was seven million survivors) on a space ark to another inhabitable planet. Clark was against leaving Earth, despite the logic in Lex's decision. Barbara overheard this and said, "I've thought of an alternate solution that could be better than your idea." Lex raised an eyebrow and said, "really? Well you have our attention, Miss Gordon. Please do elaborate." Barbara pulled out a device that looked to be a helmet made from complex contraptions. "This contains technology that can make anyone who wears it travel through time," explained Barbara, "specifically the past. Cisco and I created this ourselves." Lex laughed incredulously, "You expect to stop this undead apocalypse through time travel?!?!?! That's impossible and unrealistic!"

"It's not impossible," said Barry Allen, The Flash, "Wally and I have used the Speed Force to travel through time." Barbara nodded and said, "and the way this machine works is that the present consciousness travels to their past body, with knowledge of the previous timeline. It requires Cisco's Vibe powers, but it's not impossible. In fact, if you look at the calculations, they are correct." Lex and the others made the effort to look at Barbara and Cisco's time travelling calculations. They were indeed accurate and correct. "But is travelling through time to prevent a major event worth the risk?" Lex asked, "You could potentially damage the Space Time Continuum!"

"The risk is better than the alternative!" Barbara shouted, banging her fist on the table, "what kind of world are we living in? A world of undead monsters that will destroy humanity? I'm talking about the potential to save billions of lives with this endeavor, along with saving the people of Washington, Baltimore, and Metropolis, even if it's at the cost of this timeline!" Cyborg nodded and said, "if preventing this particular point in the timeline from happening is the only way innocent lives will be saved, then it's for the better." The other heroes agreed. Barbara nodded and said, "alright then. It's settled then. I'll volunteer to travel to the past."
