Today's its Thursday and it is also the day of Raku's English class exam, their last subject before their lunch break. He is confident that he can answer well their exam because of his study session with Chitoge. Yes. With Chitoge. But of course he is thankful that Onodera helps him, too, with his study. Then Raku suddenly remembered his interaction with Onodera awhile ago.
"G-Good morning Ichjou-kun." Onodera greeted him before sitting in the next seat beside Raku.
"G-Good morning Onodera." Raku greeted back with smile in his lips.
"Let's do our best in our English exam later." Onodera told him as if she is reminding Raku. She is smiling at him with her right arm lifting in the air with a clench fist in a way like she is saying, fighting!
Because of what Onodera told him, Raku suddenly felt awkward and guilt because somehow, he forgot that Onodera is the first person who help him study what he needed. He looks away at her then looks back at Chitoge who is busy chatting with their classmates. He actually wanted to only take a glimpse of her, but his glimpse turn into stare.
Onodera notice the way how Raku stare at Chitoge… and how a smile forms in his lips. Just by looking at him, Onodera can tell how pleased he is at Chitoge's sight. She felt a sudden pain in her chest when the suppose-to-be confession acting flashback again in her memories. Slowly, she lifted her right arm to put it where her heart is located. The heartbeat of her heart sounds so slow and that makes her feels weak. Because of what she is feeling she didn't hesitate to get Raku's attention to her… with a smile in her smile.
"Ah… y-yeah! Let's do our best. Anyways, thank you so much for helping me yesterday." Raku scratches the back of his head, getting nervous at the thoughts that Onodera may be notice or caught him staring at Chitoge… but he didn't realize that he is smiling at the same time. Though he is having those thoughts, he still gave Onodera a smile. A smile she deserves to get. A smile that is true and sincere, but still, different when he is smiling with Chitoge – without her noticing. A smile for his 'fake lover' that no matter how small it is, it really looks so happy and contented.
It's been ten (10) minutes since their exam in English started. Because of what Onodera notice awhile ago, and because of what she felt, she can't concentrate in her exam. She felt like she can't understand anything that is written in the test paper. She is trying to read every question thoroughly but it feels like she is not reading it at all. Getting uneasy at her own action, she suddenly felt like she wanted to look at Raku, so she did. The moment Onodera saw him, a smile form in her lips, because Raku seems like taking the exam without having a hard time. Thinking that it seems like she did a good job helping Raku - which she really did if Raku just pay attention that time - made her calm; and finally able to concentrate on her own test paper to answer.
The next day, still on their English time, their teacher already gave them the results of their exam. Everyone in Raku's circle of friends got good results. That's why when the lunch break start, Shu already approached his best friend, teasing him because what everyone knows is Onodera is the one who tutored him. Well, Onodera really is the first one who tutored him, and they didn't know that, coincidentally, Chitoge was at his house then tutor him again.
"It seems like getting tutored by Onodera makes you the best, eh, Raku?" Shu mockingly said with a teasing look. Well, let say that Raku got the highest score.
"H-Huh? O-Of course! That's because she is a good tutor… O-Onodera is." Raku said stammering and take a glimpse at… Chitoge praising Onodera. She is praising her way too much as if she didn't help me… more than how… Onodera helped me.
"Because of that Raku, you have to treat Kosaki-chan tomorrow since its weekend and of course for you to thank her, right Kosaki-chan?" Chitoge suggested excitedly when she is facing her, and more like demanding when she faces Raku… with her oh-so-cheerful smile. Here she goes again, acting like she is pushing him to be with Onodera – to be alone with her only.
"She's right Ichijou, you have to thank Kosaki, and I suggest you to take her on the new sweet shop in the town." Ruri said in accordance to Chitoge's suggestion because it's in favor for her and for her best friend even though she does still don't know what Chitoge is plotting with this two.
"Ruri-chan, Chitoge-chan." Onodera called their names in a threatening way for them to stop what they are thinking and planning. Getting embarrassed at what her friends is talking out loud in front of Raku, she can't deny to herself to smile at the thought that she can be with Raku again. A date. Onodera thought when she remembers her assuming-like date with Raku that was supposed to be his date with… Chitoge.
"Oooh~ a date." Shu cooed excitedly and join the conversation before giving his attention with Ruri, only; teasing her to go on a date with him also but he only got a punch and kick respond from her.
Because of Ruri and Chitoge insisting Onodera and Raku to go, and Shu just wanted to be in the conversation, they didn't give Raku a glance of look. They didn't notice that Raku is just standing there silently listening to Chitoge's persuasion to Onodera and now her angry loud voice entering his ears.
"Oi Raku, did you hear me? I said you have to do what I and Ruri suggested, okay." Chitoge said, holding back herself not to scream, standing in front of Raku while Onodera is standing at her right side, Ruri at left side with Shu standing next to her.
Raku look at her gaze then put his left arm in the pocket of his pants before looking away whispering, I cannot.
"Huh? What? Can't you speak louder?" Chitoge slightly annoyed. She actually heard what he said, everyone did heard it, they just wanted to confirm if they didn't heard, the words that come out of his mouth, wrong.
"I-I said… I-I cannot." Raku's heartbeat is rapidly beating because of anxiousness. Why didn't he agree? If he were acting like before, he sure is praying now with all his might wishing that Onodera will agree to this date so he can be with her. It should be like that. He should act that way. But why he is feeling different?
"What? And why? You should treat her and be with her blah blah blah… blah blah blah… blah blah blah…" Chitoge explain in a long way that Raku didn't understand it at all because he is busy thinking about his heart that is beating faster now than before. And then he voice out something he doesn't know where it comes.
"That's because we are the one who'll go on a date tomorrow." Raku's face turns into a scarlet. He lifted his right arm to cover his face in embarrassment. He is panicking inside while clenching his fist inside his pocket because he feels like there are so many feelings that are mixing inside him.
"H-Huh? Oi beansprout, what y-you talking a-about? W-Why should w-we?" Chitoge asked stuttering and wondering. She thought her heart is going to jump out of her heart because of astonishment. Why does he have to sound like he is asking her out, for real? Because of that, just like Raku, she is panicking inside.
And just like Chitoge, Ruri is wondering too, mostly Onodera, on what is the meaning of Raku's respond. It is not like they are unaware of their fake relationship, so what can be a reason for Raku to say it in a way – he likes her. Is it because they have already planned it… and the reason – should be – for the sake of ensuring that both parties won't get in a war once they found out that their relationship is not a real deal. Or is it he doesn't want to be with Onodera… but that's way too impossible to be the reason because Ruri knows that Raku likes her friend too. Or maybe it's because…
"Shhhh, Raku's father asked him to do it," Shu lowered his voice so no one else can hear him. Because of what he said, he gets the attention of everyone and broke them in their own thoughts. They look at Shu first and then at Raku, but Shu continued speaking, "You told me that the members of your yakuza family are all wondering why its seems like it's been a awhile since you've been with Chitoge on a date, that they also notice that somehow, you two are not spending more time with each other now. That's why your father asked you to take her on a date tomorrow, right?"
Not even sure what is Shu's talking about, it sure is a good excuse for him to use because he can't even think for himself what reason why he said those words to her, "Y-Yeah that's r-right!"
"Hmm… Is that so! Then, okay." Chitoge responded in a calm way and then turn around leaving them while thinking, now that's interesting.
When Chitoge leave them, Raku and the other left there still standing. Raku said sorry to Onodera because he feels like he rejected – literally – the idea of going out with her. Onodera just shook her head smiling at him saying that she understand and he didn't actually have to agree or to do what they are saying – he is not obliged. While Ruri keep on asking Raku what is the real reason behind those words and most of all why does he have to say it in front of Onodera. And the way she asked her, she really sounds like she doesn't believe him insisting that what Shu said is the real reason, nothing more nothing less. She gets agitated. She feels so annoyed because she has a feeling that Onodera is in pain now. And for sure, there are so many questions running in her mind that won't have a clear answer unless she voices it out.
They go back in their seat and Onodera's mind started to drift in thousands of question running in her. When she heard what Shu said earlier, that's when she only realize that, It's been two weeks since I've been with Ichijou-kun a lot… only the two of us. Why didn't she realize it earlier? Why is Chitoge busy lately? Why's everything she have to do with Raku, she is passing it to her? Does she know that she like Raku? Is she helping her? If that's what she wants to happen… for her to be with Raku… why does she feels like something different is happening? Why does she have to feel like, even though they've been together alone for a whole two weeks, there is only someone running on Raku's mind - and she's not that someone.
Getting depressed at the thoughts running at Onodera's mind, at the dismissal, she hurriedly wave good bye with her friends with Ruri. Meanwhile, this is the first time, for the whole two weeks, that Raku and Chitoge are walking home together again. On their way, no one is speaking. Raku is feeling anxious again and his heart is starting to beat faster too because of the silence covering them, while Chitoge looks so calm that making Raku irritated. Is she really calm or deep down she is feeling anxious too that's why she's not speaking? It really is hard for him to know what she is thinking. How he wish he can act like Chitoge like there's nothing happened.
But no matter how hard he wanted to try not to make a scene, everything that happening to him now seems out of his control. Before they parted way, he reminded Chitoge, "Oi don't forget tomorror, our date, and I'll see you in the park at 1pm."
"Sure." Chitoge's short respond made Raku's heart skip a beat; it made him feels a sudden excitement. Then Chitoge wave bye to him and gave him smile.
He wanted to stop himself to smile, but he can't then he shouted, "See ya!"
A real date huh.
