Hey, guys! I hope you're all safe! I hope you're all sane! I hope you're all blessed with brilliant house companions and high speed internet! I am trying to stay positive because the world is fucking scary, and on with the chapter!
Just a couple of chapters left with this one!
Jace's mind was still working in overtime, even though his whole body was frozen.
One minute, he had been about the put down the second replicator—pulling metal from the decorations on the roof above and using them to latch around the replicators limbs—and the next minute, he couldn't move.
And it wasn't just him.
Every single person that he could see couldn't move as well.
He could move his eyes from side to side, but he couldn't shift his head at all.
But there was one person who wasn't frozen.
Clary.
If he could move, he would be smiling.
He shouldn't have doubted that she could look after herself. She was more powerful that she ever gave herself credit for, and even Jace didn't know that her power extended quite this far. Clary was standing on the far side of the room, and she was wide eyed as she looked around the room. Her hands were clenched at her side and teeth were gritted together, but the surprise on her face looked as though it was fading. Her eyes glided over the people before landing on Jace and focusing.
Are you okay? Clary whispered to him, not moving from where she was standing. Her hold on him released slightly, and he nodded his head once. Sebastian was going to bring the whole place down, her eyes flickered over to the concrete pillars that had long cracks and splits up the side and Jace's eyes moved over as well. He was going to kill everyone in here.
Release me, Jace told her evenly, and Clary nodded her head. Then she paused and Jace attempted to frown, but he couldn't move any of his facial muscles.
If I let you go, are you going to kill him? She didn't need to reiterate who 'him' was, even though there were several mutants who were against them. Jace managed a swallow, even though it hurt, and he thought about it. She could literally follow his thought process, given she was staring right into his head, and she knew that he wanted to kill Sebastian. He wanted to kill Sebastian because he had been responsible for hurting her.
Clary could understand that.
If Jace was injured as bad as she was, she would feel exactly the same.
But she couldn't let Jace go and know that he was going to go directly for Sebastian and murder him while he was defenseless because of Clary. She couldn't be responsible for his death. Not like this. And Jace knew that, she could see all of those thoughts flying through his mind rapidly, and in the end, he came to the decision of no. He wasn't going to kill Sebastian
At least not right now.
Clary knew that Jace did things that he kept from her, and she was okay with that. Or, she wasn't okay with it, but she understood that it was just a part of his business, and that wasn't something that she had any say over.
Okay, Clary murmured to him. She frowned for a moment, a wrinkle between her eyes as she concentrated, and a moment later, Jace felt his body relax, and control came back into his limbs. He looked over at Sebastian, who was facing away from them. He would still be able to hear them though, and Jace had no idea how long this hold was going to last. What's he thinking now? Jace asked, stepping carefully over a fallen chair, moving closer to Sebastian. Clary licked her lips and focused on the blonde. Jace couldn't imagine how difficult it must be for her, holding the minds of so many people and keeping them in her grip, while delving into onto of the specifically. After a moment, he saw her shoulders lift and all as she took in a deep breath.
He doesn't understand what's happening. But I think he's realizing that it's me, Clary blinked. He knows about me. He knows I'm a telepath and that I'm your girlfriend. He doesn't know my name or anything yet, but I can see him working his way through everyone he saw with people of yours that he already knows.
Clary was cut off as she heard sirens getting closer, and she realized that that would be about right. She turned around to look out the long windows of the room and in the distance she could see the reflection of police lights. She also saw people outside. The ones that were closest to the building were frozen, just like the ones inside, but the ones further away weren't. Clary could pick up on confusion from them, confusion and fear. There was something else as well, that was pulling at her mind, and Clary frowned, looking in the direction of the pull, and she realized that it was Kaelie, the diamond girl.
Obviously she had some kind of telepathic abilities beyond just blocking Clary when she was in diamond form. But she was nowhere near as strong as Clary, and the redhead was easily able to block her out.
Jace moved until he was standing right behind Sebastian, and Clary heard his thoughts, she heard how much he wanted to reach out and snap Sebastian's neck. It would be so easy, with him incapacitated right now, and for a moment, his fury was so blinding that Clary actually thought he might do it, and she felt nauseous at the idea of being in someones head when they died. But he took in a deep breath and the thoughts subsided. Part of it was because he could see how wrong that would be, just to snap his neck while he was completely defenseless. The main part of it was Clary, and the fact that he had told her that he wasn't going to kill Sebastian. And because he didn't want to kill someone right in front of her.
Jace came across the room, moving swiftly to stand next to her, and he cupped her face in his hands. The sirens were getting even closer as he looked her over, checking for any cuts or scrapes, and then leaned in and kissed her on the forehead.
"Alright," Jace murmured quietly as he pulled back. "I need you to let go all of our people first. We'll disarm Sebastian and the girl and his other men and get him out of here. Then let everyone else go and they can leave the building." Clary nodded her head, knowing that they were going to need to act fast, and then she thought of something.
"I can't wipe their memories," she told him. "All of these people in here—the ones who aren't involved—they're going to remember all of this, and they're going to see whatever happens in front of them. They'll tell the police."
"The police aren't a problem, neither are the witnesses," Jace assured her and Clary's eyes widened for a second. "I'm not going to do anything to them," Jace murmured. "But we have people in the police station, you know that, and people can easily be brought off." Clary nodded and took in a deep breath. "Alright, now can you let our people go?" Clary nodded and she closed her eyes as she reached out for the familiar minds in the room. One by one, she released them from her hold. The grip on everyone was taking a toll on her though, and Clary wasn't sure how much longer she was going to be able to hold everyone else. She didn't tell Jace though, because she knew that he was already moving as quick as he could.
"You alright, florecita?" Raphael murmured, reaching out to touch Clary's elbow as his body was released.
"Yeah," Clary said through her gritted teeth, still trying to work through the rest of Jace's team. There was a thumping at the back of her head, and she was very aware that what she was doing right now was something that she had never done before, and that she didn't really know what she was doing. If she messed up and released Sebastian by accident, she didn't doubt that he would attack again, whether it was by resuming his original plan of bringing down the building, or if he was going to try something else. She couldn't let that happen, so she pushed through the headache that she could feel beginning to burn.
Clary didn't pay attention to Jace and Raphael and the rest of his people as they moved in on Sebastian and his team. Holding the innocent people who were completely unrelated to this issue was making her head pound—sorting through the familiar minds and letting them go had been hard, probably harder than actually just holding all of them. She could hear movement and she could vaguely see Jace and his people moving, disarming Sebastian and Kaelie and the replicators. She could feel the fear of the people who had no idea what was happening, their heart beats thundering in their ears, and she could see their panicked thoughts running through their minds. Some of them were thinking about their children and others were thinking about their significant other, wondering if they would either see them again.
Clary wanted to assure them that they were going to be safe, and she hated that she was a big part of the reason that they were that scared.
But what she was doing was stopping them from getting caught in the middle of a fight that was far bigger than themselves, and that was what assured her she was doing the right thing.
Clary could feel sweat beading at her forehead and her breathing was laboured. The sirens were now right outside, and the lights were flooding the room which had been so prettily decorated before. Her fingertips were tingling and her stomach was churning, and she could feel the wound in her abdomen throbbing at her exertion.
It wasn't until Raphael was shaking her arm and pulling at her that she realized that Jace, Magnus, Alec, Isabelle, Will, Max and Gretel were all dragging Sebastian, Kaelie and the replicators out of the main room—it looked as though it was a service entrance, probably went through the kitchen and to some back entrance.
"It's okay, Clary," Raphael told her quietly. "You can let go now." Clary wanted to, but it was like when a muscle was tensed for too long—it hurt to unravel. As she did so, her mind pulsed, and her body felt weak. Raphael's arm was tight around her though, and everyone started talking again—loudly—and running toward the door. There were shouts that were coming from police who were now surrounding the building. "We're going to leave here just like everyone else, okay?" Raphael was supporting all of her weight now, which he did easily, and they joined the masses of people leaving the building.
Clary could barely focus on anything, exhaustion pulling at her mind, but the ring around her thumb pulsed, and she knew that was Jace telling her that he was okay.
I have a few TV recommendations few guys, since we've been inside doing almost nothing else for the past few weeks. Breeders is really funny in a total black comedy kind of way, although there's definitely a few things that hit a little close to home. And then there's Car Masters: Rust to Riches which is this car show where they take cars and do them up into something crazy. Me just writing that sounds bland as shit, and I never watch this shows! Haha. We never watch car shows or anything, but this one is just different, the whole group is just really entertaining. There's two seasons, so yeah, just check it out to see if it's your thing!
My top ten songs that I would recommend this time around are;
1) Smiling When I Die - Sasha Sloan. 2) Forever - Fletcher. 3) On - BTS. 4) Kissing Other People - Lennon Stella. 5) Pretend You're Missing Me - Betty Who. 6) Not In The Same Way - 5 Seconds of Summer. 7) Paper Hearts - Tori Kelly. 8) Cruel Intentions - Delacey and G-Eazy. 9) Ophelia - The Lumineers. 10) Highway To Heaven - NCT 127.
I hope you guys enjoyed the update! And the recommendations! I hope they provided a little bit of distraction in these...Weird times we're living in. Leave a comment, let me know what you thought of the update and please recommend songs and movies and TV series and whatever! I've heard from a few people that they've looked at other peoples recommendations and really enjoyed them, so it's not just me you're being a hero for right now! Haha.
Much love from me to you x
