False/True Love 19: A Sudden Confession

Now that Raku knows the reason why everything happened, he can't stop himself to always stare at Chitoge whenever she is not looking and in distance. It's been two weeks since he talked to that person who gave answers to all his questions. And 'til now he still doesn't know how he will ask that person if what he heard is the truth. Just by the thought of hearing it from that person already makes him anxious. Whenever he imagine hearing those words coming from the mouth of that person, even thought he wanted to stop himself, he can't help but to smile with his own.
The truth that making him excited and at the same time, afraid because of that person. What if that person told him that everything he heard is really the truth? What does he really have to felt about? Should he be happy? Or should he be hurt?
"Earth to Ichijou." Onodera said for the nth time looking at Raku's direction.
"Huh? W-What is it?" Seems like Raku's mind just got back in reality when he felt her tapping his shoulder.
Onodera giggled softly and told him, "Do you realize how weird you look a minute ago? You are in a deep thought again. What are you thinking?"
"W-Why did you ask?" He shyly asked to her. Seems to him that he's thinking way too deep again that he actually forgot that he's at Onodera's house helping them in their sweet shop.
"Well, your face expressions are changing every second. Suddenly you are sad then you'll smile, next thing I saw you look so excited and the upset then you'll smile again. I really can't guess whether you are thinking about a problem or what." She giggled softly once again. Although she doesn't really know the reason behind those expressions, Onodera find it cute. Seeing Raku with different facial expressions calmed her down.
"...let's just go back to work." Raku avoided the topic and started to focus on what he is cooking while Onodera is the one doing the designs for the foods.
Almost an hour had past with them alone in the kitchen until they finished what Onodera's mother ordered for them to cook. Onoder volunteered that she'll take the prepared sweets outside and told Raku to just rest. Raku just agreed to do so because of her insisting, and then he lend the sweets to her. When Onodera starting walking away, because of her clumsiness, and getting feeling nervous at her own thoughts, she bump to something and was about to fall. Luckily, Raku's reflex catches her... and the sweets she's holding.
They are almost looks like hugging each other that's why when Onodera look up to him, their face are really close. Onodera's face flash in red and Raku move back award in instant and turn his back at her.
"I-I'll take it now outside." Raku told her. He already take a step forward and flinched when he suddenly felt Onodera's hand holding his, stopping him to continue walking.
"I-Ichijou-kun." She called him but he didn't move an inch to turn around. While Onodera is in so much anxiety with her heart is beating faster than ever.
She suddenly remembered the day Ruri and her talked about confessing her feelings for Raku and got a heart attack when Chitoge showed out of nowhere and heard everything.
'Shouldn't we ask Chitoge's permission first?' Onodera asked Ruri when she demanded she should confess already before it's too late.
'What do you need my permission for?' Chitoge asked from behind them. They are actually sitting on a bench in the school garden.
'Chitoge-chan I have something to ask to you.' Ruri started and fixed her eye glasses.
'Oh sure, what is it?' She asked looking at Ruri and Onodera sitting at the bench while she remained standing behind them with her smile.
'It's not like you fall for Ichijou, right? I mean you didn't develop any feelings for him.' Ruri stated without hesitations in her voice that's when Onodera stop her.
'Sorry about that Chitoge-chan.' she apologized.
'No it's okay. But why are you asking that?' She questioned back.
'Is it okay for you to answer my question first?' Ruri asked her that made Chitoge laughed a little.
'Well, to be honest... I didn't fall nor develop anything. So why are you asking?' She curiously asked.
'Now you don't have to worry about it.' Ruri stated to Onodera not answering Chitoge's question.
'Hey what's the catch?' Chitoge instantly change her position from standing behind to in front of them. Then she noticed how Onodera's face turn into a bright red. And a playful smile form in her lips and said, 'Someone's hiding something.'
'Well, you see Chitoge...' Onodera can't manage to continue because she felt shy telling her the truth. Because even though she already heard her telling them that she didn't fall for Raku, she can't deny the fact that there are many times that she gets really envious and jealous of her being with Raku; especially those times that she thought they are getting their relationship a real deal. That's the whole reason why it's hard for her to tell her that she have feelings for the person who used to be her 'fake lover.'
'The truth is, she's been in love with Raku since middle school and she plan to confess...' Ruri is the one who continued what Onodera needed to say to Chitoge. She slightly slap her in her arms before covering her face in embarrassment waiting what will Chitoge's reaction be like.
'Why? I mean, what do you like about that beansprout? Oh well... guess people really have different taste and type.' Chitoge commented and slightly laugh before getting serious then asked, 'So why asking for my permission first?'
'I just felt like you have the rights to know since you've been together for almost 3 years.' Onodera answered with a smile in her lips.
'EH? But you two know that it's fake so I don't think you need my permission about that.' Chitoge is also smiling at her then sit herself between Onodera and Ruri and asked, 'When will you confess?'
'This Valentines.' Onodera responds.
'Well, good luck.' Chitoge said and they exchange smiles before standing up and going back to their classroom.
That's right. Today is Valentine's Day. And of all days, its weekend and the timing of Onodera's mother asking for Raku's help is a good thing — at least for her. Well, Raku doesn't mind it too since he's been helping them before.
Now that she is with Raku and he is standing right in front of her, does she have the courage to confess — right inside her house? If not going to confess now, then when? That's why Onodera tried all her best to gather all the courage she have inside her. It's really now or never. She's been hiding her feelings for him for a very long time and she needed to convey it now before it's too late — just like Ruri said. And she also wanted to know what he felt towards her. She badly needed to hear what he thinks about her to lessen the pain in her chest whenever something occurred between her and him.
"Ichijou-kun." Onodera called her for the second time and he slowly turn around to face her while she's still holding his hand.
"W-What is it?" He asked and nervous smile can be seen in his face. Raku didn't know why but he suddenly remembered the day he thought that was the perfect timing to confess to Onodera whereas it felt like she was also wanted to confess something if it's not because of the sudden breaking of the window didn't happen because of the baseball ball that broke it that time
"Ichijou-kun I... I..." Onodera stuttered; unnoticeably gripping his hands. He was about to say something but almost panicked when Onodera look up at him and look straight into his eyes and continued, "I like you. No, I love you; since we were middle school. I... l-love you, I-Ichijou-kun."
Onodera has now teary-eyes because of the nervousness she felt and the happiness that she finally conveyed her feelings for him. But the happiness she felt only last for seconds when she saw that Raku look troubled about the confession. He really looks like can't believe what he heard from her. She thought... he will be happy to know that she likes him because of Ruri's conclusions that their feelings are mutual. Maybe, Ruri is wrong.
"Y-You actually d-doesn't have to give me a-answer right now." Onodera immediately told him.
"S-Sorry." A single word from Raku that almost shutter Onodera's heart into pieces made her tears run down on her face.
It's actually not Raku's respond on her confession but hearing that word coming from him hurts her. What's bothering him? No — who's the person bothering him; in his thoughts? Is that the reason why he is apologizing? If it's not someone then maybe he just really doesn't feel the same way towards her. Maybe she can accept that reason, but if the reason is Chitoge then it's really painful. Thinking that she's — maybe — already too late made Onodera cried.
"It's okay. But can you tell me you answer once you know it?" Onodera asked; still crying. Raku nodded his head then patted hers and whipped away the tears on her face before she hugged him and he hugged back.
They stay hugging each other for a minute and got surprised when the door slide opened and Onodera's mom entered and behind her are their friends. They all teasingly smile at the hug-scene they witness and it made Raku panicked when Onodera's mom started teasing them. But what made him panick more is when she noticed Chitoge, and seeing her smiling from ear to ear made him feel irritated.
Why does she have those smiles? Is this one of her plan also? Why is he always clueless whenever she is scheming sonething? She's always surprising him with the thing he like but he is not ready to happen. First breaking up their fake relationship; now, Onodera's confession.
Because of irritation of seeing her smiling widely with matching of teasing him, he didn't hesitate to approach her and hold her in her arms; then he excuse themselves like nothing happened and pulled Chitoge outside farther the house.
