Chris learned Aviva was pregnant from their 'blinded' encounter the day of his surgery. His vision was fine and did his best not to harm it once again.
Alex's court date was set and he was prisoned for fifteen years for violence and assault. Chris was thrilled to hear that Alex wouldn't be bothering him for those years.
Aviva had been resting a whole lot since she found herself pregnant. The gang didn't know yet, and she and he were just close friends. Every night, when the gang were asleep, Chris and Aviva would sneak out of the Tortuga to talk.
One day, Martin and Laura roamed the city. Chris said, "Guys, I'm going to see Mom and Dad."
Koki smiled, "Sure, Chris."
Aviva smiled at her friend. Though she was already four months pregnant, her baby was indeed small for its 'age'. But she had a smile for everything.
Chris ran over to his parents and went in the house. William dropped his book, "Son! Why run when you can walk?"
Chris said, "Dad, I need to admit something to you. It's prehaps good, but it's not too bad that it's some kind of crime."
William answered, "I wasn't going to care less, but the word 'crime' alerted me. What's the problem?"
"It's a big problem, Dad!"
"Son?"
"Dad, the day of my surgery, Aviva and I... got physical."
William's eyes lightened. But his muscles doesn't show a smile.
"And she's pregnant."
William took a deep breath, "About time you told me. Your surgery was about five, six months ago. When were you going to tell me? Does the gang see this?"
"Actually, no..."
Linda said as she came from the kitchen, "I heard everything. Aviva would definitely be different with a five month baby in her."
"But Mom... Her baby is small for its age. She doesn't look pregnant, but yet she is. She told me last night to tell you before the gang doesn't see that change."
William said, "Five months old and you're not married to her?"
"Dad..."
"Son, what were you thinking?"
"Dad, I was just so upset and Aviva cheered me up. I didn't know it brought a baby... We never were that close since my surgery date. I found out a month AFTER the surgery."
"So, are you telling me that one sex caused the baby to be made?"
"I guess so."
Linda said, "Chris, you are making so many mistakes. People know you were blind in that month, and if you marry Aviva now, that baby would cause problems in trust with others. Even Martin and the Tortuga itself."
Chris sighed, "I need to tell Martin... But I'm scared..."
"About what?"
"That he would be mad like you two..."
"Chris, we're not mad. We're disappointed."
Chris looked at his father, "Isn't mad disappointed?"
William smiled, "Hey, I love the thought of being a grandfather, but finding out a few months after your surgery is a bit too alarming. I'm not mad, but I'm disappointed you never told us in the first place. Had you told us when Aviva told you, we could've figured out a way to get you two together as if the baby was conceived in marriage. But... today's world is so corrupt that men don't care and have sex before marriage and not marry the girl to care for the baby."
Chris said, "I came to get help, not a lecture on mankind."
Linda answered, "What we are trying to say, Chris, is you should have married Aviva the moment you found out. A baby would grow up confused on how you're his daddy if you're not married to his mother."
Chris said, "But... I feel so heartless."
"Son, like you told us, you spent those nights with Aviva, talking and being together... But then, you separate into different bedrooms. That's not how it's supposed to be."
The phone began to ring and Linda went to answer it. After a short moment, she turned to Chris, "It's your brother... And he doesn't sound too happy right now."
Chris gulped as he took the phone, "Hello?"
"Chris! What the heck did you do?! I took Aviva to the hospital for some blood tests and I got the results that she was pregnant, with your baby!"
Chris looked at his parents, "How did you know that?"
"Don't deny it. The blood test proved the baby to be yours because it has basically your information. I talked to Doctor Backson and he didn't know Aviva was pregnant and found the child to be yours. What the heck is going on?"
"Martin... Calm down. I was talking to my parents about the same thing... I will admit she is pregnant with my child, but I have hidden it, because I was afraid."
"Then, the baby would be born? And neglected by his own father?"
"Martin... Please. Can we talk alone? Away from Laura and the gang..."
"The gang knows, Chris. They're right here listening."
Chris gulped, "Martin, please... I'm terrified right now."
"Sorry, Chris. But I got to bring Aviva to her parents. Thanks a lot for NOT telling me."
The phone was shut off. Chris hung up his end, holding his stomach in. Linda said, "See what we meant?"
Chris' chin shook as he swallowed a heavy lump. He turned from his mother and crossed his arms, "I'm such a terrible son... brother... and now... I'm a terrible father and husband."
