As I currently am writing this, I am a key worker working in a time of crisis and I would just like to take a second to thank every other keyworker out there and also to thank everyone staying at home and keeping safe in this difficult time. Stay safe everyone. Remember to look for the rainbows.

In the dead of the night, as the crescent moon shone high in the clear sky, Draco appeared with a quiet crackle of magical energy. He glanced around quickly at the clearing that he currently stood in before he tensed slightly and faced the men before him.

The dark lord eyed him with fierce eyes, his mouth pressed into a thin line. Next to him stood two men. Dolohov and Greyback both stared as they watched Draco compose himself. He heard the former mutter a ward spell and watched as magical energy domed over them.

"So" The cold voice of the snake-like man spoke. "I gave you one week. Do you have the information I require?"

Draco had immediately cleared his mind upon the burning of his mark, calling him to where he now stood, and was prepared for this question with a stiff rehearsed answer.

"She isn't easy to locate."

This made his lord hiss in anger. "You mean to tell me that you have once again failed me?"

Draco resisted a shudder at the anger in the dark lord's voice, and instead refused to show any emotion.

"There are too many wards in place for these people, making them vanish off the face of the earth. Wards that keep out people who-"Draco began before being interrupted by the man again.

"I did not ask for excuses Draco Malfoy." His eyes pierced into Draco's grey ones. "This is the second time you have failed me. You know the consequence."

Draco felt his heart rate accelerate but remained an unmoving shell on the outside. He knew, of course, that the threat of punishment loomed over him as he answered the call of his dark mark several moment ago, and he still came anyway.

"Please my lord." Draco said, mostly because it was expected of him. He had admitted to himself several days ago that he was past the point of actually caring about his life.

"You failed your task this previous school year, instead letting Severus take down the old fool. You have been given the chance to redeem your childish actions… and yet you come to me tonight empty handed and unable to tell me the location of the mudblood I have sent you after. I am most disappointed in you Draco. You are surly living up to your father's name as he too seems to be continuously bested by mudbloods and blood traitors. My, my… what a decision I have on my hands tonight." Voldemort hissed at him what a cruel smile on his face.

Draco sucked in small breath at the mention of his father's name, but remained as still as a statue. He bowed his head slightly, as to show the lord he was ashamed. However, he was far from it. He would not tell the lord the information he knew. He would not give her to his greedy hands to be tortured and killed. He would, for once in his sorry existence, be selfless and doing something good.

He had come to this decision exactly twelve hours ago, when he had been hidden in the shadows of the hedges along her street. He watched her through the window of her house, in what he presumed was her kitchen.

It had taken him a while, days in fact, but he had succeeded in finding her. She had been carless on one of her outings and he tailed her back to her muggle family home. She was smart of course. She had placed a whole series of strong wards on the house, which had taken him a further day or two to see through and get past without her knowledge. He had to be very careful about that. He had been there, hunched in the cold wind, several times after that. Watching and waiting. Observing the strangely mundane life that was hers.

He could have gone straight to the dark lord as soon as he had found her but he had been growing weary of the snakes power and control over him for a while now. Even in the latter stages of his mission over the last year, he had been riddled with doubts and regret.

If he had handed her over when he had found her, all would have been forgiven of course… but then he would have been given something else. There was always another job that needed doing. Another muggle to terrorise. Another mudblood to kill… he had had enough. He had never chosen this life in the first place, not really. He was just a child when your father would tell him stories about a man of great power and that he must serve him, and Draco didn't want to disappoint his father. Malfoys don't tend to argue with their elders.

As he had sat there on her muggle street, he had made a decision. Coward, he'd be no more.

A growl from Greyback bought him back to the very real situation in front of him and he lifted his head again.

Here he stood, in front of the hero of his father's bedtime stories, waiting for the man to talk again.

"I had such high hopes for you Malfoy." Voldemort uttered into the silent night. "You could have had so much… been so much more… but you have shown how entirely useless you are to me. "

"Are you going to kill me?" he asked, his voice calm and cool.

A horrible cackle crackled through the air, and the cut short as Voldemort stopped and sneered at him. "Kill you? Tempting… No."

Draco watched as the snake turned to Greyback with a callous smirk on his lips, and the wolf gave a low growl in response.

"Greyback appears to be hungry Draco. Come here." Voldemort ordered, beckoning him with a white skeletal finger.

Draco's eyes widened slightly and his hands worked faster than his mind. In an instant, he raised his wand and fired spell after spell at the three men in front of him, while simultaneously twisting to run into the woods that surrounded them. He knew the spell that he had heard Dolohov mutter when he landed was in place to prevent him from apparating inside the dome, so he ran with all his strength to try and reach a point beyond the border.

"Bring him to me!" He heard Voldemort shouting behind him, and a howl ripped through the air.

He stopped shooting spells now and instead focused on not tripping over the rotting tree roots that littered the floor as he ran.

Dolohov was on his tail, shooting spell after spell at his back, but missing each time as Draco wound behind tree after tree. He couldn't see Greyback behind him and that worried Draco immensely.

"Stupefy! Confringo!"

"Stupefy!" Draco shouted, and with good aim, as he watched Dolohov fall into a heap on the ground. As he pushed on forward he could feel his heartbeat through his ears.

Draco could see the shimmer of the edge of the dome now. Just a few more seconds and he could apparate away. Three seconds… Two seconds… one sec-

Draco felt as though he had ran straight into a stone wall as another body slammed against his, crashing him to the floor and pinning him down. Greyback snarled and collided a fist to Draco's head, smashing it to the floor. Gasping for breath, he saw the wolf eye him with intense fury, and he immediately began to struggle, clawing at the ground to reach his fallen wand. He found himself pushing and punching at the monster who was, in turn, clawing at his body and grinning a sick twisted smile. A brutal pain shot through Draco's side as the wolf ripped his skin open, seemingly enjoying the sight of the blood that poured out of the open wound.

"Argh!" Draco cried, fighting harder to reach his fallen wand. They were over the line. If he could just reach it…

"Traitor!" Snarled Greyback, and as Draco twisted in an effort to reach out, the wolf savaged his claws into the younger man's back, deep and sickening painful.

Draco spat at his face as the wolf rose his claws again, and lunged across the bloody grass, clutching the wand tightly in his hand, his eyes now blurry with the pain he felt.

Greyback hacked out a howling laugh and growled loudly. "You think that will help you?!"

As he said this, he mauled Draco again, this time leaning down and piercing his skin with the long yellowing fangs that protruded from his mouth, using his claws to rake into any part of Draco he could reach at.

Draco was in complete agony, barley able to part his lips to utter the spell on his mind.

"Se… Sec… Sectumsempra!"

The wold howled in pain as it let go of Draco and grasped as it's now sliced face.

Draco's mind was fuzzy, but he didn't hesitate for a second. He rolled over, scrambling on all fours and ignored the pain he was in enough to twist his body to apparate away. He caught a glimpse of a now awake Dolohov rushing up behind the wolf as he disappeared. With his mind blinding him with hurt and disorientation, he picture the first place he could in his mind, and felt his consciousness slip through his fingers as the world went black.
